Some GREAT Burger Ideas

Summer's almost here. Time to grill up some burgers. But before you inhale a fatty patty, or (eeeks!) avoid eating burgers altogether, check out these six ROCKIN' burger picks from HG...
GARDENBURGER BLACK BEAN CHIPOTLE VEGGIE BURGER

(1 patty: 80 calories, 2.5g fat, 250mg sodium, 13g carbs, 5g fiber, 1g sugars, 5g protein = 1 Point)

You know
we love almost all of Gardenburger's veggie patties, but this Black Bean Chipotle burger is our FAVORITE of all (yep, it even beats their kickin' Sun-Dried Tomato & Basil burger!). We love it so much, we created a special burrito recipe exclusively for this patty (now that's love). The burger's got black beans, corn, onions and more, so grill one up, serve with salsa 'n low-fat cheese, and you've got yourself a Mexican burger fiesta. Olé!
Southwest Burritofest!

(1 burrito: 190 calories, 5.5g fat, 772mg sodium, 39g carbs, 20.5g fiber, 4.5g sugars, 14.5g protein = 3 Points)

The second we first bit into this black bean patty during our Gardenburger taste test, we had fantasies about this burrito!

Ingredients:

1 Gardenburger Black Bean Chipotle Veggie Burger

1 La Tortilla Factory Whole Wheat Low-Carb/ Low-Fat Tortilla; Large Size

1/2 cup shredded lettuce

2 slices tomato

1 tbsp. fat-free sour cream

2 tbsp. salsa

hot sauce (optional)

Directions:

Microwave or grill your veggie patty according to the directions on the box (we prefer ours grilled...with nonstick cooking spray, of course!). Spread sour cream on your tortilla. Cut veggie patty into bite-sized pieces or strips. On one half of the tortilla, place lettuce, tomatoes, and veggie patty pieces. Top with salsa, and roll up your burrito. If you're brave, add some hot sauce.

JENNIE-O LEAN TURKEY PATTIES

(1 patty: 160 calories, 8g fat, 550mg sodium, 0g carbs, 0g fiber, 0g sugars, 22g protein = 4 Points)

We LOVE Jennie-O's lean ground turkey burgers because they taste awesome and have just 160 calories and 8g of fat per serving. (Be careful not to confuse 'em with J-O's regular turkey burger patties, which have way more fat and calories.) They're also pre-formed into individual patties, which means you don't have to touch all that gross, squishy raw meat, and you don't run the risk of making your burgers bigger than the given serving size (which is large, at around 4 ounces!). Jennie-O? O-yeah! HG Turkey Burger Warning: Not all turkey burgers are calorie-friendly. Read labels carefully. Seek these out in the fresh-meat section of the supermarket.
AMY'S CALIFORNIA VEGGIE BURGER

(1 patty: 140 calories, 5g fat, 430mg sodium, 19g carbs, 4g fiber, 2g sugars, 6g protein = 2 Points)

We looooove pretty much anything and everything that pops out of the Amy's kitchen (especially their Mexican Tamale Pie and Chunky Tomato Bisque, but we digress). Today we're raving about their California Veggie Burger. It ROCKS! Why? Because not only is it packed with grains & veggies, it also has crushed walnuts and garlic in it! Yum!!!
BOCA ORIGINAL MEATLESS BURGER

(1 patty: 70 calories, 0.5g fat, 280mg sodium, 6g carbs, 4g fiber, 0g sugars, 13g protein = 1 Point)

Sometimes you just can't beat the original. Boca's Original soy patties taste great grilled on the BBQ, cooked in a pan, or zapped in the microwave. And they contain only 70 calories and a half-gram of fat each. Even better, they've got an impressive 4 grams of fiber and 13 grams of protein per patty. If you like meaty-tasting vegetarian burgers, this one's for you.
OMEGA FOODS SALMON BURGER

(1 patty: 100 calories, 2g fat, 150mg sodium, 3g carbs, 0g fiber, 0g sugars, 18g protein = 2 Points)

You've heard of turkey burgers. You've heard of veggie burgers. But have you heard of fish burgers?! Well if you haven't, you're missing out -- bigtime. The fine folks at Omega Foods are the masterminds behind a line of delicious, low-calorie, low-fat seafood burgers. Their lineup also includes Tuna Burgers (90 calories and 0.5g fat a patty), Shrimp Burgers (64 calories and 0.8g fat each), and Mahi Mahi Burgers (70 calories and 0.5g fat a patty) -- but the Salmon ones are our favorite. All of these sensational seafood burgers are super-easy to prepare and contain lots of protein (14 - 18 grams per patty), but the Salmon ones also serve up a gram of healthy Omega-3 fatty acids each.
MORNINGSTAR FARMS PHILLY CHEESE STEAK BURGER

(1 patty: 120 calories, 6g fat, 400mg sodium, 6g carbs, 3g fiber, 2g sugars, 10g protein = 2 Points)

This is perhaps the most decadent veggie burger ever. It's so good, in fact, that when you eat this yummy cheese-infused burger, you feel like you're pigging out on the most delicious Philly Cheesesteak. The best part? You are SO not. It's a tad high in fat for a soy patty, but it's head-explodingly good, so get over it!
