Chapter # 2

(Lady Majyk)

They noticed the steps actually had a flame that lit at either side each time Lady Majyk ascended to the next. As they actually started ascending, they realized just how wide and magnificent the staircase was. It must be at least 10 feet across and rose to a height that they could not yet see.

"This precious stairway was once known as the "Triumph Companionway", Lady Majyk's voice echoed. "As you can see, they are made of the most elegant marble ever found on our isle. The eternal flames were set in the stone by magick to light when ever they are touched by the steps of a true witch. They number 1,313, the number of souls that were lost during the battle that won us our original freedom."

Each step had sigils and unfamilirar words that were engraved deep in the stones. Each comemorated a fallen master of magick that lay within the catacomb. The Lady continued to talk of what she knew as it came flooding back to her mind. "The room we just left is their final resting place. Geode knew that this was not to be uttered by any but the true and pure decedent of the line of the Kings. For to do so would have collapsed the way our for us all." She turned and smiled at Geode knowing that his early line was connected to her own but had dwindled to the outside clans as his own decedents perished many generations past. It was unspoken that they were distant cousins so it was reasonable that Lilly did not know.

"Our ancients have long been here guarding our past and our future." She turned and continued, "This stairway connects to the treasury just outside the Castle Keep. My Grandmother, who passed over before Qyzida was born, told me of this place and opened the door to show me this stairway only one time. She told me that if ever I was in danger, that this was the stairway to safety of the witches. Here , we would always be safe and protected by the magick that is older than time itself, but the steps led much further down than I could imagine so the danger must be real for the staircase to emit the magick of the ancients."

All that was heard was the voice of Lady Majyk as the troop slowly ascended the mighty mountain of finely hewn stone. They knew that one missed step would be sure death if they were to tumble back down the case from where they were.

"The power that is held here will always be guarded and only the most adept have the keys to open this area to safety from the outside. It is invisible to any but our clan and those they have entrusted with their knowledge. We are never to utter the location of this sacred place and I had all but forgotten what had been entrusted to me those many many years ago. Grandmother had told me it would be hidden in my mind until the one day that I would need to recall it as it would be better that I did not have the temptation of idle chatter to reveal such a magickal place.

It all now becomes clear to me as I think about this story she passed on to me in her waning years" Lady Majyk turned again to her companions and sat on the step she was on to rest a bit. "This is quit a climb, I must say!" Grandmother was right, It is further than I could ever have imagined as a child." She bid everyone to rest a bit and looked up knowing that they had another many flights to go.

The others gratefully joined her as they sat in silence for a moment to just catch their breaths. The animals did the same. Instinctively knowing they were not to go ahead of Lady Majyk. "So how do we get out of the treasure room once we get out of this dungeon?" quaried Lilly still a bit edgy for not knowing this secret.

"Do not worry about that,"chimed in Qyzida. "There is a key within the walls. We will be out in no time at all. I know that there isn't much in the Treasure chamber anymore as Uncle really depleted everything so what he did not squander away the marauders took. I fear there will never be the wealth there once was here-"

"Do not say that my Sister!" Lady Majyk growled at Qyzida. "Do not mumble those words as you know that your words are as good as casting a spell...You must mind what you say, most especially in this place of such powerful magick!" The scolding was taken well as Qyzida clasped her mouth and ask the Goddess to disregard the last comment.

Amathiya stood and stretched. "I am ready to continue, I am so ready to get out of here and back to my sweet chamber . I don't want to think of all this doom and gloom...come on please let's go."

Everyone rose in accord and Lady Majyk smiled and continued the ascent. It was not long and they reached the threshold where torches magically lit each side of a massive Oaken door. It sparkled as if there was glittered dust all around it. All knew it was faery dust that glistened . "patefacio foris, expositus ostium, directus -" Lady Majyk uttered the words that would open the door.

They all stood in anxious silence. The door started to glow as a blinding light was ignited by the ancient words . It made an eerie creak and a movement started to strain the ancient barricade that had been shut for so many years. As it opened the troop breathed a sigh of releaf at seeing a familiar area.

As they emerged into the empty room, they heard voices just outside. And Ursa made a deep and foreboding growl and Geode took a defensive stance as the women suddenly were on urgent alert. The outer door was half open and something was going on in the courtyard.

Amathia felt the urge to run back into the safety of the stairwell but as she looked back, she saw that the ancient Oaken door was nowhere to be seen. What was once the door to safety was now only a stone wall that perfectly matched the other walls of this fortessed room.

(Lilly)

Geode being closest to the half open outer door noticed it was getting lighter outside. They had spent the entire night on their journey from the Inn to the now empty Treasure Chamber. Knowing whom ever was out side couldn’t see in the dark room, Geode ventured near the door to see what was going on outside. He saw the spy, he and Fyre had caught in the forest talking to younger man. The younger man was saying, "Me thinks Lord Valaris has sent us on a wild goose chase. ‘Tis, No witches here and Me doubts if they really exist. Me thinks King Ma’aglinn was just an ol?fool". With that the spy turned white as a sheet and stated, "Sprenger, Them witches be real, me seen two in the forest. You ran away and they found me". With that Sprenger, roared with laughter. Then he said. "Kramer, you had one pint to many at the Inn. Me thinks it is time to return to Lord Valaris and report that no witches were found". Kramer briefly thinks back to his encounter in the forest with the bear, wolf, dragon and large witch with a glowing staff and shivers. He meekly nodes in agreement with Sprenger and they start walking away, not knowing how close they really were to the truth.

With hearing the name Lord Valaris, Geode and Lady Majyk shiver. Both realize that as long as he is still hunting for witches they have to be careful. Lord Valaris was on of King Ma’aglinn’s closest confidants. He was over zealous in his desire to rid the kingdom of witches and partook himself in many executions. Geode remembers that Lord Valaris was responsible for the loss of his family, as he grinds his teeth, the crystal atop his staff starts to glow. Lilly quickly throws the hem of her cloak over it to conceal the light and whispers. "Shhh, Geode , calm yourself, less we be seen. The crystal goes dark again at the sound of her calming healing voice.

Everyone decided to wait for a while before leaving the Treasure Chamber and going into the Castle. Sitting there they hear Sprenger and Kramer’s voice sounding further away as they walked chatting about their personal lives and what they have missed the most while gone from home. To make sure it was safe to exit, both Hedwig and Kionna were sent out to survey the area. Before either returned Morrin came running into the open door and slammed into Lilly knocking her flat on the floor and started licking her face. Trying her best to stifle her laughter, Lilly attempted to right herself, back into a sitting position. Searching her pockets she found a treat and gave it to Morrin. Morrin had ran off to keep an eye on the witch hunters and followed them out of town. Morrin was so happy that everyone she loved was safe. She kept running around the room trying to lick everyone. Ursa opened one eye and looked at Morrin as if to say, leave me alone, I am trying to sleep. After a while Kionna and Hedwig flew back into the room hooting and shouting that all was clear.

Tired as they were, everyone gathered their belonging and slowly trudged into the castle, hoping to find some well needed rest in their chambers. As they entered the castle they heard booming voices singing in the kitchen. Opening the kitchen door they found Fyre and Sterling butchering the meat that had been gathered in the forest. The singing stopped and both men was delighted to see their friends had made it home safely. Fyre told of how he had plied two men whom were hunting witches with several pints of Ale on the house to divert their attention. Seeing how exhausted everyone was Fyre decided story telling could wait until later. He bid everyone to go rest until dinner time, by then the castle cooks would have a small feast ready for them. Lady Majyk was so exhausted she was getting wobbly on her feet. Only Amathia seemed to sill have extra energy. She took Lady Majyk by the arm and helped her to her chamber as everyone else retired to their own chambers. After seeing Lady Majyk safely to her chamber, Amathia retired to her own chamber to rest.

(Amathiya)

She walked slowly into her chamber and gently placed her basket on the floor and checked on the small fir balls in her basket. You must be hungry little ones. She turned to take the small rabbits out to the rabbit cage.

"Look Icess, I have brought you some more babbies I hope you will take gentile care for them." She gently placed each rabbit in next to Icess. Ices smelled each one of them and moved her body so they could feed. Amathiya smiled, "Good girl" she kissed Ices on the head and patted her, quietly she turned, rubbed her arms from the chill and stopped.

There was something out past the barn she could see a shadow of something but couldn’t make it out. Quickly she walked back to the castle to the kitchen where she could still hear the men laughing and singing. Coming threw the door she said "There is something, or some one lingering out by the barn." All came to attention and Geode didn’t even have to call to Morrin she fell into step and they both went out side. Geode saw the shadow and Morrin quietly growled. Laying a hand on Morrin’s head. "Easy girl." Slowly Geode walked closer to the crouching shadow keeping Morrin behind him. Quickly he reached out and grabbed the boy as he longed to run away. Morrin barked loudly. Holding the boy’s arm Geode looked at Morrin and she lay down.

Geode looked at the small boy "What do we have here?" "Please sir! " The boy whimpered. "Don’t hurt us. My mother and father have been captured by Lord Valaris’s men." Geode, raising his brow. "Us?" He looked around but still had a firm grip on the boy. He noticed another child hiding behind a stack of hay. "Come to me child." Slowly a small girl creped out, releasing the boy Geode looked at the boy "Where are you from?" The boy reaching out to hug his sister looked at Geode. "We have been traveling for two weeks to come to the castle Chalandor, my mother told me that her aunt lived here and that if any thing was to happen to her for me to take Cassy to the castle Chalandor and that we would be safe here." Geode began to walk back to the castle, Morrin falling into step with him. "Come you must be hungry." Turning his head to see if they followed he asked. "Do you have a name?"

"Thomas, Thomas Magottagal" the boy stuttered.

They quietly walked into the kitchen where the others were setting the table and readying for the evening meal. "Look what I have found" Geode said.

All turning to look, Lilly rushed to the children. "Ho" Qyzida recognized the small girl with the looks of her niece that she had not seen for 4 years Questionaly she said. "Cassy? Thomas? " She rushed and hugged the children.

Geode filled them in on what the boy had told him. Amathiya fixed the children plates of food and milk to drink. Greedily the children ate. Qysida said "Amathiya could you go and fix a pallet for the children in my chambers and I’ll get them some fresh sleeping gowns."

"Ok "and Amathiya was off to fix the children’s beds.

Rounding one of the corners Amathiya almost ran into Lady Majyk. "Amathiya what are you running for?" Amathiya filled her in on what had happened. "We must make a protection spell for our lands. I will go prepare. When you are done and the children are in bed, gather the others and we will meet in the garden. I will see you there." With that Lady Majyk walked towards the exit closest to the gardens

(Geode)

Upon hearing Thomas?and Cassy’s tale of Lord Valaris capturing their mother and father, Geode got that feeling of dread, the way it’d had been many years ago, during the height of the witch hunters. Sitting at the table opposite the two children, and noticing how much they resembled their Aunt Qyzida, he spoke in a reassuring manner, so as not to alarm anyone to his feelings, "Thomas?Cassy?when exactly did this happen?"

The two children both tried to speak at once, but Fyre turned from the stove, putting a hand on each of the children’s shoulders, said, "Slow down children, slow down. One at a time, please, as we need to sort out all the facts."

Young Thomas spoke first, "Well, we were coming home from the village. Mother had sent us to market for a few things for the garden. You know, that new shop, uh?uhhhhh?it has something to something with a fox?I think."

Cassy chimed in, "Thomas, you’re always forgetting something, fetch the note out your pocket!" Thomas dug deep into his pocket, drawing out a crumpled piece of parchment.

Handing it to Geode he said, "This is the list Mother gave us."

Geode looked at the crumpled parchment, but already knew, as did the rest standing around, the children were referring to The Crystal Fox, the newest shop in the village that carried a myriad assortment of magickal and witchcraft items, tools and supplies. As well as magickal items, they also carried seeds, plant seedlings, fresh cuttings and herbal plants. "Isn’t the place I found all you ladies yesterday?" Geode stared at Qyzida, then to Lilly.

"That’s the place, Sterling was there, he gave Lady Majyk a basket that contained a note!" blurted Qyzida, starting to feel ill.

Geode looked up at Sterling, the proprietor of The Crystal Fox, and asked, Sterling, "What were you referring to in the note you gave Lady Majyk?"

At that instant Lady Majyk came around the corner into the kitchen, on her way to the garden. Upon hearing her name, she said "What is this, a note? Which note?"

Sterling now said, "The note I’d placed in your basket warning you of the appearance of witch hunters and spies."

"Oh, that note. Why yes I remember it, as a matter of fact it’s, right now, lying on the table in my chambers" she replied. "But why ask now about the note, I told all of you, well except for Fyre of course, in the room of the ancients, of its contents" she said, now looking puzzled.

"We were just trying to place events together" Fyre said, now vigorously stirring a large kettle of something that had the smell of old leather.

"Ewwww!" cried Qzydia, now pinching her nose closed, "What are you making Fyre?" she asked, sounding quite comical and nasal.

The witches in the room chuckled. "It’s tarring for me tent", said Fyre.

Geode, knowing just what was on his Brother’s mind said, "Fyre, can we speak for a moment?"

"Sure, just lemme move this off the stove" he said, grunting under the effort of lifting the large cast iron cauldron off the stove.

Geode rose from the table, turned to the children and said, "Finish your supper children, and then it’s off to bed with the both of you. Amathiya is now preparing a pallet in your Aunt Qyzida’s chamber." He turned and briskly walked off toward the direction of his chamber.

Upon letting the cauldron down on the floor with an audible "Thumppp", Fyre quickly followed after Geode, leaving the children and ladies in the kitchen to finish supper and talk.

As Fyre caught up with Geode in the hall, Hedwig flew in the window, and seeing Geode, skimmed the top of Fyre’s head to land on Geode’s own. "Oy! Ya bloomin bird, watch where yer a flyin!" Fyre yelled at Hedwig.

Hedwig came to rest atop Geode’s head and started immediately pecking. "Ouch! Hedwig, that hurts! Stop!" said Geode, trying to grab his snowy owl in a vain attempt to stop the persistent pecks.

Fyre reached out, grabbed the owl in one large hand and removed him from Geode’s head. "Here, take this bloomin owl will ya Geode. He’s actin?a might strange" said Fyre, thrusting Hedwig into Geode’s hands.

"Hedwig, what’s the matter with you? Are you ill or something?" Geode asked as he started to examine his owl. Then he noticed, in the dim torch light of the hall, the tiny roll of parchment tied to Hedwig’s leg.

At this, Geode took off at a trot toward his chamber door, the Dragon thumping along behind him. They entered Geode’s chamber and Geode sat down behind his desk full of stones, crystals and various open books on crystal magick. "Close the door will you. What, were you brought up in a barn?" asked Geode. "No, as a matter of fact it was a cave actually. Such a beautiful cave? Frye rambled as Geode untied the note from Hedwig’s leg and placing him on the perch next to his cluttered desk.

Hedwig immediately set to eating the bowl of owl treats Geode always kept full for him. Fyre, having never been in Geode’s chamber, was keenly interested in all the crystals and stones of varying shapes, sizes and colors. Each crystal was emitting its own humming, glowing color. There were books and books and books of different sizes, mainly on the subject of crystals, divination and spirit communications. A large table under the window contained a brass telescope and all sorts of whirring gizmos, the likes of which Fyre had never seen. "Fyre!" Geode shouted. Startled by Geode’s sudden outburst, the Dragon almost knocked the telescope off the table. "Leave that and come here, you must hear this? Geode said, moving the candle a little closer so he could see the scrawled handwriting a little better.

"What’s it say?" Fyre asked, as he settled his large Dragon body into a large rectangular pouf behind Geode’s desk. "Only a dragon would sit on my bed" said Geode shaking his head while gazing at his Dragon Brother, who had made himself quite comfortable.

"It’s from the bartender at the Inn, but I’m having difficulty in making out the manuscript" he said, adjusting his glasses to fit a little better.

Fyre reached over his Brother’s shoulder and said, "Here let me see that." Geode handed the note for Fyre to read. "It’s from Xavier, alright. The bloody fool writes in tongues when he’s upset. Speaks that way too and just gets me fire up sometimes with all that gibberish. Did you know ? Fyre started into one of his long stories.

"Will you just please tell me what he says" Geode exclaimed

. "Oh, Er ?Right. Sorry ‘bout that" said the Dragon apologetically. "Jes the fact the Inn’s full of witch hunters now and they got the poor Magottagal children’s parents in shackles and they’re a talking ‘bout turnin?‘em to Lord Valaris, an Xavier’s real scared now, and he even thinks the Fae Folk are in trouble, and that’s why he sent this note with Hedwig!" Fyre handed the note back to Geode.

He took it and examined it closely. "You got all that from such a tiny piece of parchment?" asked Geode in amazement. "I must speak with Xavier about this tongue. It sounds quite intriguing." Geode continued, "And again you got all that from this?" Geode said holding up the approximately four inch square of parchment.

"Well, yer gotta know Xavier, he’s one of a kind, he is" beamed the Dragon, quite contentedly.

"So I gathered" replied Geode. "Well we must tell the ladies of this, but mind you, not within the presence of the children. It may cause such a severe shock, our own Lilly may not even be able to heal them" .

"Right! Well, I’ll jest be goin?now. Lots to do ya know and lots? Fyre was cut short by Geode. "Yes, and that brings us to another matter that we must speak of now."

Fyre looked quizzically at his Brother. "You know what I mean, what are you up to with tarring for your tent, and all the camp belongings behind the herb cabinets in the kitchen?" said Geode.

"Well, thought I’d get a little help. To fight the witch hunters and all" replied Fyre.

Geode shot his Brother a quick look and said, "And just how long have you known about the witch hunters? When were you planning on telling us of their massive presence"

"We’ll the night I sealed you all in that tunnel? Fyre started.

"Go on ? replied Geode.

"I came back up from the cellar, with a cask of ale in me arms. Ya know, so I’d looked like the trip down the cellar was needed. I thought maybe Samhain or Yule had come early or sumthin, ‘cause there were lots of people in the Inn." Fyre related, and then continued, "But there was sumthin quite wrong with the crowd and the conversation in all. Kinda dark and foreboding with Xavier dropping pints all over the place. Shaking like a leaf he was".

Geode could sense the coldness in Fyre’s voice now. Hedwig was even shaking. Geode leaned on an elbow, and rubbed his forehead. "Continue please dear Brother" he prompted.

"Oh, yeah, and like I was sayin?Xavier was dropping pints all over the place. The crowd was talking about witch hunters. Not just they was about, mind you, but they were themselves witch hunters!" Fyre roared, almost toppling Geode out of his chair. "So, I figured help was need from our allies to the north and west" beamed Fyre, a broad smile on his face.

"What allies to the north and west dear Brother ?Wait, you mean the dragons? You really think they’ll come to lend us aid?" Geode asked.

"I’m a Dragon by birth and by right, and when a Dragon asks a’tother Dragon fer help, he gives it!" roared Fyre.

"Shhh! You want to wake the children and alarm the ladies with this?" Geode cautioned. "Ok, I can see you’re dead set on this vision quest to gain help, but walk with caution dear Brother, for we don’t want to loose you" said Geode, now very solemn and concerned for his Brother’s well being.

"And I the same brother Geode, fear not, I will return. Look for us. How long it will take, I can’t tell ya. Sometimes Dragons is hard headed, and down right hard to find" said Fyre, now looking at the stone floor of Geode’s chamber.

Geode knew of the magnificence of a Dragon’s heart, but wondered if it ever longed or broke. "I will miss you dear Brother Fyre. May you travel with the Lord and Lady on your quest" Geode said as he rose, walked over to a shelf, one of the ones with all the humming and glowing crystals that Fyre had been examining earlier. "Here, take this with you. It’s is Amethyst and has great protective and healing properties" Geode said handing the purple stone to his Brother.

Fyre took the stone, examined it carefully, and said, "But us Dragons don’t need no protectin? and get on fine alone".

"Then take it as my gift to you. In addition it has communicative properties you will come to know" said Geode.

"But? Fyre was cut off by Geode,

"Just please take it, and don’t loose it either Let’s go and tell the Ladies now, let’s do it together. Our one last thing we do in love and trust" said Geode, now walking toward the door. "And shut the door behind you this time, please" he said with a snicker .

The two Brothers headed back down the hall towards the kitchen to inform the ladies of what had transpired. When they entered the kitchen, Sterling</st1:place was sipping tea with Qyzida, Lilly and Amathiya at the large oak table.

"Where’s Lady Majyk?" asked Geode.

"Oh, she’s out in the garden preparing a magickal defense for the castle" Lilly said.

Geode turned to Amathiya and asked, "Will you go and fetch her please, quickly."

"What’s the urgency Geode?" asked Qyzida.

"Fyre and I will tell you once all are gathered" replied Geode.

Geode took a seat at the table between Lilly and Qyzida. Fyre returned to his cauldron and began to stuff his tent into the already thickened brew, being careful to coat every fiber. Qyzida again looked at the cauldron, and wrinkled her nose in disgust.

Very shortly Lady Majyk bustled through the kitchen door, quickly followed by Amathiya. "What’s the urgency my dears?" she asked everyone present. Everyone, except Fyre and Geode were looking around, just as puzzled. "We don’t know ask them" said Lilly, pointing to Fyre and Geode. "They came in here and sent Amathiya to fetch you from the garden" replied Qzydia, now pointing at Fyre and Geode as well.

Sterling just shrugged, as he continued to stir a cauldron of something good smelling. Lilly was intently staring at Sterling wondering when it was going to be ready, as she was now becoming quite hungry.

Fyre kept his concentration on soaking his tent in the thick, black substance, making the cloth start to glisten. Geode Xavier’s the letter from his pocket, along with his glasses, and unfolded it, smoothing it on the table. "Fyre, do care to translate this again Brother?" Geode asked.

Without taking his eyes off the cauldron, he said, "You already know what it says."

"Ok, then a shortened version then it will be" said Geode.

Lady Majyk stood at the head of the table, tapping her foot impatiently, and staring at Geode waiting for this mysterious message. "Well, Hedwig flew in a short while ago with a note from Xavier, the barkeep at the Inn in the village" he started, and noticed all eyes were focused on him. Upon searching the room for signs of the Magottagal children, and noticing their absence, continued, "Xavier sadly states the Inn has been full of witch hunters and those loyal to Lord Valaris since last night. Fyre has told me they were there after he’d sealed us in the tunnel and had returned up to the Inn proper. However, Xavier says they have been there all night and have James and Madeline Magottagal prisoner, locked in irons? Geode was interrupted by Qyzida’s sudden squeal.

"Hush your self Sister" said Lady Majyk. "Please continue Geode", she said, hugging Qyzida for comfort.

"Well, to make it short, there is talk of turning them over to Lord Valaris for execution?

Geode was interrupted again, but this time by Lilly slamming a plate down on the table, causing it to shatter. "Will YOU please be quiet, lest you wake the children, as they do not need to be party to something as horrific!" she said firmly as she stamped her foot.

"Now the final piece of the information, Fyre our dear Brother here is leaving on a vision quest" said Geode, now folding Xavier’s note and returning it to his pocket.

"What! You’re going where! Why!" came several cries and pleadings from around the room.

Fyre stopped stirring, turned to everyone, and raised his hand for silence, then said, "I am going on a vision quest to seek out much need aid for our people" he said.

"What aid?" questioned Lady Majyk firmly, as she was not wringing her hands, wondering how all this could have become so out of control, and off balance.

"The aid of be birth brethren" replied Fyre in a somber tone.

"Dragons!!" squealed Amathyia.

"They’ll eat everything in sight" Lilly shot back.

"They’re wild and not dedicated to our ways, like you dear Brother!" said Qyzida, her eyes starting to well with tears.

"Ne’re to worry my dear family, ne’er to worry" replied Fyre in a confident tone. "They’re me blood kin, and won’t turn me away. They’ll listen to what I have to say, hold council to consider my request and lend down a decision. That’s the way we’ve done for thousands O years, and tis the way it’s still done. Dragons is very true to their words and truth." Fyre finished, as he finally removed the now blackened tent from the cauldron and hung it to dry on a few convenient pegs sticking out of the wall. "Before ye ask, I’m leaving just after this here tent dries" he said, jerking a thumb at the grotesque looking cloth hanging on the kitchen wall. Fyre turned and started to breathe a warming flame onto the cloth, drying it evenly. He then lifted it off the pegs, rolled into what appeared like a large overcooked sausage roll. "I’ll jes fetch me kit and be off then" he said, walking out of the room towards his chamber.

Everyone turned and exchanged looks of bewilderment. Geode just stared at the worn oak table top and remembered the good times they had in hunting, camping, exploring and just learning from each other’s wisdom, different though it may have been.

Lilly leaned her head over onto Geode’s shoulder and was the first on to shed tears. "I going to miss him dearly" she said through a tear stained face.

Geode noticed everyone else was crying as well. He spoke, "Fyre will one day return, this I am assured of, he will return."

Minutes later Fyre stomped through the kitchen, stopped to hug everyone tightly, picked up his tent and turned to Geode, "Will you walk with me to the wood dear Brother?" he asked somberly.

"I would be happy to dear Fyre" Geode said, as he stood and followed the Dragon out the door.

They walked together in silence until the edge of the wood. Geode turned to Fyre, gave him a bear hug, and unbeknownst to his Brother, slipped a clear quartz crystal of beckoning into his kit.

Fyre hugged back with one of his infamous back breaking, bone crushing Dragon hugs. Geode bid his Brother farewell and watched as the dark wood swallowed up his large, Dragon body. He then turned and walked slowly back to the castle, in deep thought of what the future was to bring for their beleaguered family and friends in the village.

(Qyzida)

Shaken and exhausted form the events of the past few days, Qyzida sat in the window of her chambers looking our over the forest where Geode and Fyre were saying goodbye. Knowing that worry would not alter anything, she held her hands over her heart and projected love and protection energy and hopes for his swift return to Fyre while tears welled in her eyes.

So much had changed since that happy morning when the ladies shared croissants and coffee in Lady Majyk's chamber.

It seemed the whole world had turned upside down.

In the firelight flickering on the walls of her chamber and moon light filtering through the wavering glass in her windows Qyzida checked on her niece and nephew. Both sleeping deeply and gently petted their heads chanting prayers for their wellbeing.

She looked up and saw a small twinkling outside her window.

She rose and went to the window and opened it and in flew a wee fae. It circled the room a few times and then above the children. Qyzida welcomed her with a bow of respect and sat on a poof and asked the Fae the purpose of honoring herself with a visit.

The fae slowly drifted over to where Qyzida sat and lighted on her knee. She was lovely, beyond description and projected an aura of strong magick. She didn't speak per se, but conveyed her reason for coming telepathically.

"The imbalance of the negativity in the area had caused chaos in energy and nature. The forest was suffering, the weather was askew, all the elements were affected. Something must be done. Great positive magick must be done to regain the balance. Peace is in danger. Pain is great. The Fae will assist. Listen and act."

The Fae rose and touched Qyzida's forehead on her thirdeye chakra and then floated out the window and back to the forest.

Qyzida was so stunned by the impact of the message and effect of her touch that she sat staring out the window and fell into a deep meditational state.

Deep inside the earth a small gopher, no bigger than her fist was tunneling away happily minding it's own business and enjoying the roots hanging down from the ceiling of it's tunnels.

Tunneling, tunneling, tunneling, here and there.

As it tunneled upward to the surface and peeped out, a rushing wall of water swept over him and in a vortex of swirling power rushed down his tunneles filling them and eroding the walls.

As the wet and half drowned little creature climbed up on a small island in the middle of what had become a large chamber, suddenly the water's swirling had drilled a hole through the wall of the cavern and the water began to shoot out to the outside world where the gopher's home was above the ground outside, where many thousands of years ago this drop off had been a river bank. The water rushed out and the levels lowered and the threat to his life seemed to be over.

The water kept coming in though and rushing by even faster, the cavern kept growing as the water washed away it's walls and carried way the dirt, then the ceiling started to fall in clumps.

Suddently there was alot of noises and thumping and the whole ceiling crashed in. the little gopher climbed out into the bright sunlight to see strange creatures driving sticks into the ground breaking up his home and piling dirt over the water. One of the creatures saw him and came over and ended his life with a stick.

Qyzida felt sick to her stomach.

The voices of the men became discernable. "Geez what a mess, the barn is flooded out, the animals are only half drowned, and will be alright. We can divert it now. Fortunately it didn't get to the new delivery of hay."

"If we'd have lost anymore water down this darn gopher hole the field up here would have died, without it well.... I don't want to think of the damage loosing this crop would be to everyone depending on it."

"Amazing how something so small can create such an uproar, isn't it?"

"Yeah, well, we better get to re-enforcing this embankment."

A bright ray of sunshine peeped over a distant mountain top and shot though the glass in the window summarily poking Qyzida in the eye, waking her from her meditation/dream state.

Groggy and stiff from sitting in her poof all night she stretched and rubbed her eyes, She knew this had to have been some kind of message, so she rose and went to her desk and wrote all she had just experienced down as well as she could.

With it still being very early, she left the sleeping children and went down to the kitchen to retrieve a cup of coffee and a bite to eat and get grounded from the experience of the night before. Carrying her parchment, she walked into the kitchen to the wonderful smells of Lilly making breakfast and Lady Majyk setting the table.

"Blessed Morning, Sisters...." Qyzida said with a yawn.

Lilly and Majyk both started to reply, but their responses fell away and looks of stunned concerned covered their faces.

"What???" said Qyzida. They didn't respond, they just stared at her. "WHAT????"

Just then out of the corner of her eye, Qyzida caught her reflection out of the corner of her eye on the back of a polished tray hanging on the wall and saw why her sisters looked so shocked.

She looked like she'd been drug through a knothole backwards.

Her hair was sticking out in all directions and there was a small dark blue asterisk shaped star right where the Faerie had touched her, and a smudge of mud on her nose, and a bruise on the back and side of her neck.

Majyk steered her toward the table and sat her down, Lilly started making a poultice for the bruise while they both asked her what on earth had she been doing and how did she get hurt.

Qyzida handed the sheaf of parchment to Majyk and said, "I'm not sure...maybe you can tell me....."

(Lady Majyk)

As Lady Majyk took the parchment she had a look of puzzlement on her face. She sipped a drink of her mint tea and started to read the words that described Qyzida's experience. She put down the cup as she read about the little animal and how it had met it's demise .

At that moment the door of the kitchen swung open, sporting a very wet and muddy man. Amathiya swirled around and smiled at him with a flirty twinkle in her eye. "What happened to you, *Ròidh...You look like a drowned rat!!"

The Large red-headed Gaelic man, sheepishly grinned and in a deep brogue, explained about how the barn had flooded and he had been elected to clean up the mess. He seemed to always be picked to do the dirtiest jobs around the castle, maybe because of his gentle but strong nature. As he detailed the morning's activity, Qyzida and Lady Majyk exchanged glances with wide eyes.

Majyk bent and whispered to her sister. "It looks like you were astro-flying again....and this time were visiting your little garden friend." She patted Qyzida on the shoulder and smoothed her hair. Knowing that she had often denied her gift as silly dreams, when they both knew it was actually a very valuable gift that had gone dormant for many months as she continued to push her talant to the far reaches of her being.

The attraction between Amathiya and Ròidh was evident to everyone and all knew that they would be two missing bodies during the Beltaine celebrations as many spent time gathering their herds for the blessings of the Run between the belfires. Spring was definitely in the air even during times of worry and distress.

The obvious emptiness of Fyre's presence was felt by each person , but never as much as in Qyzida's eyes. It was as if she cared not how she presented herself when he was not around to impress. She pushed Majyk's hand away and took her coffee, "You all can make light if you wish...I hate feelings of death and I do think this is something more than what everyone thinks! I just know there is trouble and what I experienced is just one more sign. I think you all need to be more aware of what the Goddess is telling us! I am so tired of losing ones that never return. So wake up! I just can't think straight right now.." She gave everyone a stern look and stomped out of the room.

Everyone looked at Lady Majyk as if to ask what that was all about but no one said a word. Finally Lady Majyk spoke to break the icy air. "Do not worry, Qyzida is just hurting and with her stressful night as well as Fyre's leaving has her up short this day...all will be ok...I will speak with her in private later...just let her freshen herself and take a moment to center again. Now, Ròidh, do you know if we need to help the others outside? We can bring out some warmed bread and hot beverage if that will help for a start. "

The Young man nodded and decided to wash up outside rather than in the kitchen where so many females gathered. He had thought it would be only Amathiya there as he usually was able to meet her at this early hour and just get a refreshing bit a folly. Things were different oday..and unbeknown to him...things would only get more so as the days commenced.

*Ròidh...is pronounced "Roy"- a Gaelic spelling of Roy, which is an anglicization of the Gaelic Ruadh...this means "reddish" in the scottish brough.

(Lilly)

Lilly looked at Lady Majyk and smiled saying, "I guess now we know why you have been in a baking mood all morning. We had no idea we had half the towns menfolk to feed." Lilly started pouring tea into jugs to carry to the barn, when a young lad about 10 or 11 years old came running into the kitchen saying half out of breath, "Me Ladies, One of me horses will surely die if not helped." Lilly asked what was wrong and he told of how the horses in the barn had panicked in the rising water. They kicked at their stall walls and gate trying to get out. He found out one of the horses had a nasty gash on her leg and was bleeding badly. Lilly told Amathiya to get Ròidh and for them to help take the refreshments to the barn. Lilly went to her chambers to get her bag of medical potions and bandages.

Upon entering the chamber she found the bed had been neatly made and Geode was no where in sight. He had talked the night before of various tasks he needed to do, so she wasn’t sure where he was off to. Grabbing her bag she hurried back to the kitchen to help the young lads horse. Morrin started following Lilly and she told the wolf to stay. She was worried Morrin might spook the horses. While she was the sweetest wolf you’d ever meet, she was still a wolf as far as a horse was concerned. Morrin walked back into the kitchen looking sad.

While walking across the field Lilly and the young lad started to chat. He said his name was Patrick and he was named after his father who was murdered when his mother was carrying him. He knew his father was a learned man since there were many books in the house, but he nor his mother knew how to read them.

Arriving where several horses were tied up to a fence post, one horse had a bloody bandage on her front leg. Her eyes were wide with fright and Lilly had no idea how she was going to tend to the poor creatures injuries. Patrick walked up to the horse and leaned his head against the horse’s head and started whispering soothing sounds. The horse suddenly calmed down and stood there not moving. Lilly removed the bandage and saw the creature had a nasty gash that would require several stitches to close. Patrick assured her the horse would let her do what was needed as long as he was there. Trusting the lass, she cleaned and stitched the wound shut and placed a slave over the wound. Several other horses had minor wounds and each let her treat them with Patrick holding his head to theirs. Stepping back after all the horses had been treated and released into the field with all the other barn animals, Lilly looked at Patrick admiring his abilities. Lilly asked, "How long have you been able to whisper to horses?" Patrick looked puzzled and said, "All my life, of course." As if everyone had that special ability. Lilly told him that when things calmed down she would love to come to his home and see what books his father had collected and teach Patrick how to read. Lilly had a strong feeling that Patrick’s father had been a witch and that was why he had been murdered.

After Amathiya left with Ròidh to take sweet rolls, bread and tea to the men cleaning the barn, Lady Majyk went up to Qyzida’s room with tea and sweet rolls to see how her friend was doing. After knocking on Qyzida’s door and entering, Lady Majyk saw Morrin laying on the floor between the still sleeping children. She asked Qyzida how Morrin came to be in her room. Qyzida said she heard a scratching and whimpering noise at her door and when she opened it Morrin let herself in and that was where she had been ever since. Upon hearing the woman talking Thomas woke up. Morrin started thumping her tail and that woke Cassy up. The children started playing with Morrin and the next thing you know, Morrin was on her back having her belly rubbed. Qyzida looked over and said laughing, "So much for being a big bad mean wolf." With that they told the children to wash up and come eat some sweet rolls. While the children were eating Lady Majyk was complaining that no matter how hard she tried, so far she couldn’t come up with a spell or potion to help fix all that was going wrong or increase the power to protect the kingdom. This perplexed and bothered her. She had never had this trouble before.

After Thomas and Cassy finished eating they went back to playing with Morrin, who gladly licked their hands and faces clean. Qyzida glanced at the children and noticed a twinkling in the window. She realized the wee fae who had visited the night before was back. She opened the window and the fae came in and sat on the table between she and Lady Majyk. This time the fae spoke to Lady Majyk in a soft voice that Qyzida strained to hear, saying,
"Wise though you may grow, this potion you do not know.
Follow me to the library, and there hidden you will see.
The magick that you seek, ‘tis use was not for the meek."
As Lady Majyk and Qyzida rose to follow the fae, the children wanted to come with them. At first they both told the children to stay, but the fae said, "Let the sweet children come, for with books they may have some fun."

Upon arriving at the library they opened the two large doors and what they saw awed them. Row after row of book shelves all the way up to the ten foot heigh ceiling. Off to the right they saw a small table with chairs that was the perfect size for Thomas and Cassy and next to it was a large collection of children’s books. Qyzida was happy to know the children could read and they made themselves at home quickly. As they looked around both realized no one could read all the books stored in the library in a life time. They followed the fae to the back of the library where there was a huge hearth. In front of the hearth was an equally huge desk with a chair wide enough to fit two grown men. Qyzida smiled and said, someone in the family, other than Fyre, must have been a dragon. Above the hearth mantle engraved in the stone was simply the word "Chalandor ". Then the fae spoke again and said, "Only a witch who’s heart is light and pure, may knock on Chalandor times three, and the knowledge of the ancient past will be revealed to thee." Lady Majyk walked up to the hearth and knocked three times on the word Chalandor. Both women were startled to heard creaking and groaning and watched as the bookcase to the right of the hearth swung open. Inside crystals in the wall started to glow bright white light illuminating the tiny room. Inside was shelves full of ancient Books of Shadows and even some old potions and herb mixtures. One book started to glow and the fae said, "In this book you will find, the answers to the questions in your mind." And with that the fae disappeared. Lady Majyk took the book off the shelf and felt a surge of energy rush through her body. She swayed for a second and Qyzida asked her if she was OK. Lady Majyk said she had never felt better. In fact she realized nothing on her body was aching and she felt younger than she had in years.

Lilly walking back with Patrick noticed no one was at the barn and all the mugs, platter and jugs were stacked in front of the now clean and slowly drying barn. She called for Amathiya and Ròidh, only to hear giggling and "hush" from above in the hay loft. Lilly looked at Patrick and said, "I guess we need to tend to these dishes ourselves." So they picked them up and returned to the castle. After placing the dishes in the kitchen, Patrick left and Lilly headed to her chambers. Finding it still empty she checked to see if Geode was in his chamber. Not finding him she returned to hers and for the first time noticed the note on her desk. It read:

My Dear Lilly,
I have taken the ancient path back to the Inn. I need to talk to Xavier on Fyre’s behalf. I shall be back as soon as my business is completed.
With all my love,
Geode

Lilly went to Qyzida’s chambers and found them empty. Wandering the castle wondering where everyone was she noticed the open library doors and entered. Lilly noticed the children to her right who were each engrossed in reading a book with Morrin laying at their feet. Feeling a surge of energy she walked to the back of the library and saw Lady Majyk holding a glowing book. The glow seemed to have spread through her entire body.

(Amathiya)

Majyk stood in a trance with her eyes closed slightly swaying. Qyzida stood by her feeling the power that shot threw Majyk, in concern she ready to catch her if she lost her balance. Qyzida looked at Lilly and just gave her a look, and Llilly catching the glance turned and walked to the children. "Hay you want to go out to the barn and play with our stable boy he is about your age Thomas". Ya! The children said in choirs. Placing her finger to her mouth " shshshssh go and be back by lunch " the children jumped and ran out of the room with Morrin in tow. Slowy walking back to the women Qyzida steped away form Majyk and allowed the serge to go threw Majyk. Feeling safe to leave her, she stood by Lilly and waited quietly for Majyk to finish with her message form the book.

Inside the glowing aura, Lady Majyk could feel the power of the ancients and all the line of Chalandor surrounding her and imbuing her with their generations of magickal energy. The Embrace was not unlike a lover's surge and she could not hold back the sigh of ecstasy. She could not see the room nor those that were in her presence in the mortal world as her soul left her body to mingle with the ancestors. The Grimoire suspended her as her hands were welded to the binding. She was one...all were her and she was the All.

She shouted in an unknown tongue for several words as if trying to find a language that was currant. Her voice was deep and demanded to be heard. Finally the brogue of old Irish spewed from her vocal cords. "The very essence of Chalandor breathes again! We are one. Chalandor is alive and none shall wound her again. The breath of life is within the walls and bares the armor of Her People. Here me!! And know that the Powers of all that have been nurtured within her walls come alive this day. The new Crescent is nigh and Chalandor is born again! Magick breathes in the mortar once more!" The voice echoed throughout the castle and the blinding aura vanished. Lady Majyk collapsed as both Qyzida and Lilly caught her. She was unconscious...

Quzida shook in fear. Lilly held them both then motioned to place her at the hearth. They placed her gently on the woven carpet as Lilly instinctively reached for several tinctures that were on the old shelves. The ancient Grimoure had somehow placed itself upon a podium that looks as old as the book. It seemed to have been made especially for holding the Grimoire. As the woman glanced in its direction it slammed closed.

"It has killed her!! I cannot feel her breath!" Qyzida was trembling now. She could not think and Lilly was working fast, trying to bring the near lifeless form of her friend to a conscious state. "She is breathing, Dearest, Be it shallow. She is enchanted and it may be weeks...I do not know ...We must get her more comfortable

Amathiya came bounding into the room with Ròidh close behind her. "What was that shouting? We could hear it clear over in the corrals. Who is in Chalandor with such a voice? Suddenly she saw Lady Majyk lying motionless on the floor...

Roidh and Amathiya rushed over to Majyk’s side Qyzida said "Roidh please carry her to her chambers. Amathiya go get some tea." Roidh gathered Majyk in to his arms and carried her to her chambers.

As they walked into her chambers Noctua was perched on her stand. Lilly noticed that the owl was in a strange state too. "I wonder?" Lilly said to Qyzida "if Noctua is with Majyk." Qyzida nodded and tended to Majyk. A few minutes later Amathiya walked in with tea for three. She sat them at the table by the fire place and Roidh began to build a fire for the kettle to worm more water.

After their tasks were finished and they left the chamber closing the door quietly. Amathiya whispered to Roidh "I don’t think that it’s a good time to tell them." "Aye" Roidh answered in the same hushed tone "We’ll wait till Beltain to tell them. With that they walked out to the garden for a stroll. Seeing the children and Moorin chasing each other they began to play their game with them, running and squealing with the children. Not knowing what was happening to their Lady Majyk.

(Geode)

As Geode descended the long, granite staircase into the chamber of the ancients, from which Qyzida, Lady Majyk, Lilly, Amathiya and he had climbed just two nights prior, his mind, was deep in thought of Fyre, "Would he find the dragons in time to return with their aid?" "What would he find at the Inn when he arrived?"

His thoughts were still contemplating the request Xavier had written on the reverse side of his note, "Come to the Inn with undue haste, all are in dire circumstances! To open the portal into the cellar remember this?If thou desire is to enter in, push the brick with surface of tin."

Geode thought this message odd, as Xavier had written it clearly. His thoughts were turning over and over, like those of a pensive, swirling, cloudy?"Who enters our sacred place?" came a booming voice, taking Geode quite by surprise.

Geode realized he had arrived at the bottom of the staircase, into the chamber of the ancients. Looking around, he could see the walls still lined with the same crypts and coffins they had seen the other night, but no source to the voice. He reached into one of the pockets in his robes and withdrew a large clear quartz crystal point, which he sat on the floor.

The crystal shot rays of muted white and purple light in many directions, and began to slowly turn. "Come forth, show yourself and let ye be known." Geode said, as he raised his arms.

The light from the crystal revealed many ghostly and spiritual apparitions of witches long passed and entombed in this chamber. However, one spirit descended to the center of the room, floating mere inches above the pentagram that was laid into the stone floor. "I am the Great Spirit, the first spirit of Castle Chalandor, the creator of this magickal place. I have been disturbed and awakened by many wrongs against my descendants and faithful followers! My lands are unbalanced, the earth cries out in pain!" the spirit exclaimed in a harsh, graveled voice.

"I know of many witch hunters and succubus in the village. They are now meeting at the Inn and have the Magottagals in irons. We have their two children, Thomas and Cassy safe in Castle Chalandor as we speak." Geode told the spirit.

The spirit swelled, "That is not sufficient! There is a chosen one, a witch that must gaze upon the blessed Grimoire, the Book of the Ancients, written a thousand years ago!"

Geode could feel the spirits flowing around him, swirling faster, as the Great Spirit spoke more eagerly and sternly. "Book? Which book do you speak of, for I know of no such book?" Geode asked the Great Spirit.

"It is for the chosen one to find, and find it they will, as this will be the only way to save Castle Chalandor from Lord Valaris!" the spirit boomed back.

The Great Spirit and it's minions swept away in a blast of cold, frigid air, and the crystal was the only thing left illuminating the room. Geode bent down swept the crystal up and replacing it in his pocket, continued on the path to the Inn where Xavier was waiting. As he walked the dimly lit path, he wished for Fyre, as he was always good in helping him in solving riddles such as what had presented themselves in the past few days.

Geode finally reached the end of the tunnel where the entrance to the Inn's cellar stood blocking his path. He reached into his pocket and extracted a small crystal, holding in his hand, he pointed his wand at it and said, "Solaris!"

The crystal illuminated the wall and its many bricks. "Push the brick with surface of tin, surface of tin" Geode thought as he scanned the wall.

The bricks were differing shades of reds, browns, greys, but no tin covered ones. "Surface of tin? he thought as he searched the wall.

There! High up on the right, a grayish brick, resembling tin. That had to be the one he thought, as he reached up, placed his hand upon the brick and gave it a shove. The brick moved easily, and the wall swung open to reveal the cellar under the Inn.

Geode could now hear loud voices coming from the Inn proper. He hurried through the opening, turned and shoved the large barrel back into place with a loud scraping noise. "That had to have been heard upstairs" Geode thought.

At this, he heard footsteps on the stairs. Turning, at the same time drawing his wand, he came face to face with Xavier, the very person he was there to meet.

"Geode!" Xavier cried, looking around the room.

"Xavier my friend" Geode replied with a bear hug, almost squishing Xavier’s chest to pieces.

Geode noticed Xavier looking around the cellar and asked, "What are you looking for dear friend?"

"Where’s Fyre? Didn’t he come with you?" Xavier asked nervously.

"No, my dear Brother Dragon went on a vision quest to recruit the Dragons to our aid" Geode explained.

"Come, sit, and I will tell you of what has taken place". Geode removed his cloak, laying it on one end of the table, and sat in one of the chairs, as Xavier drew two mugs of cool, frothy ale from a fresh barrel. Xavier placed a mug in front of Geode and then sat opposite him at the large oak table.

Geode studying Xavier’s drawn face, his mouth missing several teeth, making him resemble a Samhain Jack-O-Lantern, took a long draft of his mug and related everything from the beginning to Xavier.

Xavier rang his dirty apron harder and harder, the further Geode got into the tale of new happenings within the magickal world. "But what are we to do with the witch hunters in the Inn??Xavier asked.

Geode replied, "There is nothing we can do at this point, except attempt a rescue of the Magottagals".

"How do you plan to? Xavier was interrupted by a loud scratching noise coming from behind the fake barrel that guarded the entrance to the tunnel.

Xavier stood and started backing toward the corner, under the stairs when Geode said, "Tis fine Xavier, help has arrived".

Xavier still puzzled, watched wide eyed, as Geode pushed the barrel aside allowing the largest brown bear he’d ever laid eyes upon, to enter from the tunnel. "Ursa! Good boy!" Geode exclaimed as he hugged his bear.

"Ursa?" Xavier asked in a timid voice, "Is he yours?" Xavier squeaked as the large brown bear entered the room proper,.

Geode shoved the barrel back into its place. Ursa lumbered over to Xavier and sniffed him. Xavier, now with his hands over his face, shrieked in a voice of shear fright, "Get him away, he’s going to eat me!"

Geode walked over and slapped the bear on his rump, "Ursa, be nice now. This is Xavier, a friend. He tends bar upstairs" Geode told the bear.

Ursa now sat and licked Xavier’s face and dirty apron, tasting the food and drink stains it contained. "Get out from under the stairs Xavier" Geode commanded, "Ursa is not going to hurt you. He is just trying to make friends, and if you cleaned your apron more, he wouldn’t be licking at all the stains!" Geode cried with laughter.

"Why is he here?" asked Xavier, now sliding around the large brown bear, and retaking his seat opposite Geode.

"This is our aid, to rescue the Magottagals" Geode said triumphantly.

"A bear, him?" Xavier asked quite quizzically, pointing at Ursa, who had now found a comfortable spot, lain down and commenced to snoring.

Geode rose from the table, walked over to Ursa, lifted one of the bear’s eyelids and sternly said, "Get up you lazy lump! There is work to do, you slept last night!"

Ursa yawned and clearly spoke, "What is it we are to do?"

Xavier, who was always fascinated by the many aspects of the magickal world, sat wide eyed and dug his finger in an ear, as if in disbelief the bear had spoken. Geode noticed this and chuckled, "Xavier speak to him, tell him you are his, as well as all our friend".

Xavier, now with the knowledge the bear could understand and speak managed a meek, "Hello Ursa, I am a friend of Geode and Fyre, which makes me a friend to you"

"Glad to meet you Xavier. I’ve heard much of you from Geode" Ursa replied. Ursa looked around, "Where’s Hedwig?" he asked Geode.

"Back at Chalandor, but we are not concerned with Hedwig. We are concerned with the rescue of the Magottagals" Geode said to the bear.

"Oh, the parents of Thomas and Cassy?" Ursa asked.

"Yes. They are upstairs at this time shackled in irons for being witches" Geode told Ursa. "I want you to? Geode was interrupted by Ursa’s rising and starting up the stairs, which creaked and groaned under his massive weight.

"Follow me dear friends, be ready to rescue the Magottagals." Ursa said over a massive shoulder.

"CRASH!" The door to the cellar swung off its hinges. The witch hunters in the room suddenly fell silent and drew their attention to the source of the noise. Ursa reared up on his hind legs, and with a loud roar, swiped at the nearest oak table with an immense paw. The table flew across the room, crashing into the wall near the fireplace.

One of the succubuses ran to the front doors, flung them open to find her face to face with three angry wolves. One wolf was pure white, one grey and the larger of them all, a tri-colored one, standing in the middle. All three wolves, teeth bared, growling and hackles standing on end, stalked into the Inn, stopped just short of the now terrified succubus.

Geode emerged from behind the bear, commanded, "Where are the Magottagals? Release them immediately!"

Kramer, a witch hunter, who Geode recognized as the one that had been spying on Fyre and he, from a tree nearby their camp several nights ago, stepped forward and sneered, "We will not run this time witch, as there are many of us, and we are all loyal to Lord Valaris!"

The tri-colored wolf leapt forward, grabbing the witch hunter by the leg, caused him to fall forward, hitting his face onto the floor. Ursa started lumbering toward the huddled mass of witch hunters, searching out anyone in irons.

As he started forward, the masses backed up until they could go no further, as they were now against the Inn’s rear wall. One witch hunter raised his cross bow, took aim at the tri-colored wolf, and before the arrow could take flight, Ursa had swiped the weapon away, breaking it into many pieces against the wall. "I will not say this again, where are the Magottagals?!" Geode coursed.

Silence filled the room as Xavier pushed his way from behind Geode and took in the sight of his Inn. "Geode! What?

Xavier was interrupted by a voice from the crowd, "So we finally have one of Castle Chalandor’s witches! HA! You are no match for us witch!" exclaimed the voice from the crowd.

With that Ursa let loose a mighty, ear splitting roar. Everyone suddenly clamped their hands over their ears, just to keep them from splitting. Ursa dropped to all fours and advanced further on the huddled crowd of witch hunters, as did the other two wolves. As everyone backed up as far as the Inn's wall would allow, Geode said, "I’ll say this just one more time?Where are the Magottagals?"

Finally, a sickly thin woman emerged from the crowd leading a man and woman, shackles still binding their feet and hands. "Here are your two witches! Now, call off your creatures!" she exclaimed in a voice that definitely didn’t match her looks.

Geode stepped forward, extracted his wand, pointing it at their shackles and said, "Recendio!"

Both sets of shackles and chains, returned to their original state of a small pile of iron ore dust.

"Come with me, quickly." Geode urged, as he took each of them by the elbow, guiding them out the front door. "Ursa! Morrin! Stay for a bit, and then return home straight away." Geode called over his shoulder to his bear and Lilly’s wolf, as he disappeared out the front door. He quickly ushered the Magottagals through the village square and started down the lane to Castle Chalandor.

"We can’t leave!" protested Mr. Magottagal.

"We need to return home for our children!" now cried Mrs. Magottagal.

"No need to worry, Thomas and Cassy are safe with their Aunt Qyzida in the castle" said Geode. "Now, let’s hurry, before Ursa and Morrin let those angry witch hunters free! We must reach the castle before that happens!" Geode hurriedly, as he moved into a faster gait, almost pulling the two Magottagal parents along.

(Qyzida)

Qyzida stood seemilingly watching the children playing the field, but inside her head, the vision of what had happened in the library rolled over and over in her mind. Wondering and trying to piece together what was going on and trying to figure out what what to do next.

She sat on a bench outside the treasure room door and leaned back against the stone walls and closed her eyes, listening. She heard the wind ruffle the new leaves in the trees and felt the soft touch of the petals of apple blossoms brush her face as the breezes scattered them from a nearby tree. Listening for some guidance. In her mind she opened herself and emptied her concern and despair into the void to disperse to nothingness. It was almost like falling asleep as she felt the long tense muscles in her neck and back relax and melt. In the void she pictured a flower bud slowly opening and a warm of divine power encouraging the change.

She willed the power to increase and watched in her mind as the flower became a rose in full bloom, full and fragrant and glowing with life. The experience of the Divine power was so sweet, it was almost overwhelming and extremely healing to her heart and mind and spirit.

Suddenly she heard iron hinges grating from inside the Treasure room.... and voices. She snapped to attention and stood quickly. As she was swirling around, she automatically was enveloped in a glowing auric shield of protection and the emotions of a mother bear protecting her young and domain swelled in her.

The door opened and a staff with a geode attached to it emerged past the doorway.

Qyzida's shield winked out with the delight and relief of seeing Geode and Ursa coming out of the Treasure room. Her joy exploded a thousand fold when a bedraggled and bruised woman and man come out behind them, " Decassakan!!!! Miguelito!!!"" She >Squealed< and ran to hold them close. "Thank the GODDESS!!!!, And thank YOU Geode, Ursa, Morrin!! Thank you SO much!!!!"

Morrin wagged her tail and panted, then saw the kids and ran off to play with them.

Ursa yawned, nodded a "You're welcome" and lumbered off to the kitchen door, toward the aroma of meat cooking.

Geode beamed his fantastic grin and said, "No trouble at all dear, seems my sweet, and gentle Ursa intimidated those witch hunters a bit. Can you imagine???" Then broke into a loud laugh which caused Lilly to poke her head out the kitchen window.

Lilly's cry of her love's name brought heads popping from doorways and hay lofts and around corners and everyone came running into the courtyard to greet him and the newcomers.

After a good deal of heartfelt welcomes and back slapping, hugs and cheers, Lilly examined Decassakan and Miguelito's injuries and steered them to the kitchen to do some healing and feeding of bellies and spirits.

The children saw the gathering dissappearing into the castle kitchens and figured it must be lunchtime, so they followed suit. Once inside they saw their parents. "MUMMY!!!DA!!!", they squealed, and ran into thier arms.

Many hugs and kisses and happy tears later, fed, washed clean, bandaged with herbal wraps, and dressed in fresh linen night gowns, Decassakan and Miguelito were nested in a huge feather bed to rest and recouperate. Amathiya had set them up in a huge chamber with a giant bed and additional beds for the kids with a cozy fireplace and table filled with plenty of goodies and drinks for them to snack on when ever they woke so they didn't have to go all the way down to the kitchens again right away, but could stay in the peace and comfort of their chamber and heal from their ordeal.

Geode's tale of what happened in the Inn reminded Qyzida of her gopher dream, only Ursa was what emerged from the realm below and didn't get bested by the ones above like the gopher did.

After things had settled down, it was near supper time and Qyzida wandered the hallway to Majyk's chamber. The door was slightly ajar, and she knocked gently on it.

"Come in..." She heard some one say softly.

She pushed the door slowly open and peeped in. It was Amathiya, she was sitting near the foot of Majyk's bed, keeping watch.

Majyk was still unconscious, but must have been having some very interesting dreams because she was mumbling and making expressive faces, a glow of energy would rise and fall around her and her hands were moving and twitching at her sides.

"What's happening?" Qyzida asked Amathiya.

"I'm not sure, she started doing this about an hour ago, and is getting more active by the minute.... How is your niece and her husband?" said Amathiya.

"Resting comfortably, thanks."

Qyzida came closer to Lady Majyk and was just about to lay a hand on her forehead when Majyk suddenly sat bolt upright with a shout that made both Qyzida and Amathiya jump out of their skin.
