Dear LORD, I'm but a soldier boy, I know not how to pray,

O Christ of dark Gethsemane, You were a soldier too,
You conqured death and the grave for me, Your pain and hardship knew,
Alone you trod the long hard road, That led to Calvary,
Alone you bore the thorns, the load, You did it all for me,
Forgive my wanderering, erring ways, I've grieved Thee, Please forgive,
I've shunned Thy love, despised Thy grace, LORD teach me how to live,
No matter whether flying planes, Or driving leaping jeeps,
Or whether on the bounding main, Dear LORD this soldier keep.
I pray though will deliver me, Midst flying shot or shell,
Let angels ore me vigils keep, And ever with me dwell,
If I shold die in conflict fierce, On battlefield alone,
May angels with their snowy wings, Bear my soul on home,
Dear LORD please hear my humble plea, Thou art the soldier's friend,
