One Step Between
I Samuel
20: 1-3
Text Verse 3

As I read this verse and saw this particular statement I started to think about all that this and just how true it was. Just one step between anyone of us and death. The next step you take could be the last one.
You may fall down while just walking down the street going on an errand to just simply buy a loaf of bread and never make it back home to see your family and loved ones and friends.
Perhaps while you are out jogging to stay in shape to improve your cardio vascular health or to loose weight. Then while trying to stay healthy your knees start buckling and your eyes start going dim and then your heart stops and then you are gone.
Then again perhaps you are out working in the yard mowing, edging, raking and then all of a sudden you fall down with a writching pain in your chest and you fall to your kness gasping for that last grasp of breath and your mind starts on a vivid recollection of a lifetime's worth of memories and then it's too late, you pass on into eternity.
Or let's say you are out driving on the road on a beautiful sunlit day, minding your own business when you see another vehicle coming your way and you think nothing about it till you see it start coming your way but no time to react and suddenly you're in a wreck. You feel the pain of a sharp piece of metal enter your neck and before you know it you're dead and in a couple of days they'll bury you in a grave somewhere while your family and friends weep over their loss.
So you see, life is so short and like a vapor as the book of James says in chapter 4 verse 14 " Whereas you know not what shall be tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away." Then in Hebrews 9:27 the Bible says " And it is appointed unto men once to die but after this the judgment." We are never promised a tomorrow or even another second in time. Some may even claim that the Bible says we are to live a certain amount of time by taking a verse out of context but still death can come in a second of time, in the blink of an eye we could be in eternity.
I'm sure David thought of this all the while he was running from King Saul. David was a good man as men go and I'm sure by the reading of the book of Psalms and the writings that God allowed to be put there by David, why in the world was the king trying to kill him. Saul hunted David almost tirelessly. Seeking to somehow trap him and take David's life. I'm sure that David thought many times and became discouraged from the relentless running and hiding that Saul would at any moment come from behind something and take his life for sure. He truly thought as he told Johnathan "There is but a step between me and death. "
Sadly though many people do not think that they will see death at any moment. They go on as if they are invincible, indestructible. Some never thinking of eternity a time where death and life will meet at a crossroads and that one day the life they know will give over to death for even death has it's place in life, for God ordained death even as He has life.
So whether walking down the street, or out jogging, working in the yard, or in an auto accident, death is a shadow of life, just waiting for orders from the LORD to overtake you for the LORD has power over death as well as life.
While wanting to see your spouse, children, family, friends, co-workers or working on being healthy or perhaps making your yard beautiful to see or just out on a leisurely drive you may experience your knees start buckling and your eyes start going dim and then your heart stops, or all of a sudden you fall down with a writching pain in your chest and you fall to your kness gasping for that last grasp of breath and your mind starts on a vivid recollection of a lifetime's worth of memories and then it's too late you pass on into eternity.
These are things that could and do happen to us as death grips us with it's cold icy fingers and suddenly as well as sometimes slowly we pass from this life into the next. Hopefully one is a born again Christian and if so we have no fear of death for we will be immediately present with the LORD. For the lost person you have every reason to fear, for the God of Heaven that created all things and every living creature, has the sovereign right to take life as He sees fit to do so. Especially if you're lost there is a real place called the Lake of Fire where you will go with no God, all that is unholy, all the pain and agony you cannot possibly even imagine and all the imps and whords and demons of hell will be cast there one day at the Great White Throne Judgment and they, as well, as you, will be cast into the Lake of Fire for all of eternity.
So one step more, think about it what will be your next step. Accept Christ as your Savior today. Evangelist Stephen Blan *
