We Must Forgive Colossians 3: 8-13 Text Verse 13
Ever since back in the Garden of Eden man was at first completely and totally right with God. Then, sin entered in a man was at odds with God the Creator. So ever since then man has needed the plan designed by God for forgiveness of sin. Just focusing on the fact that man needs forgiveness of sin, he also needs to know without a doubt that he has been completely and totally forgiven whether it be past, present or future sins. He needs to know he will be accepted of God. I’m sure most of us can remember when were corrected from our earthly parents that it probably didn’t seem they loved us very much but in fact they did. Possibly some parents might have said or thought of disowning us. Of course that can’t be done because of the bloodline. In much the same way when we are born again our heavenly Father cannot break the bloodline of His dear Son whom shed His blood for us. So what about forgiveness on our part. What is it and how do we obtain that within the heart and put it to practice. To forgive people who have hurt us or wronged us in some way. How badly we need to get to this point in our Christian lives where we can forgive instantly with absolutely no time in between to dwell whether we will or not. A spirit of forgiveness is essential. If we have the spirit of forgiveness in our hearts we will find we have a sense of completeness in Christ. It crushes the defeatism that Satan can cause us to feel. It is required of us who are followers of Christ. God freely forgives and He expects us to do the same. We are to forgive no matter the offense or attitude of the offender. This doesn’t mean we have to trust this person as a strict confidant. We must however leave the offender space to reflect and repent with a repentive heart. We must be more like the Lord as much as possible. Slow to anger and plenteous in mercy. So in retrospect if the world sees us do this I wonder how many more would be saved. An unforgiving spirit creates a hindrance in our fellowship with Christ. Wrong attitudes such as bitterness, a wrong opinion, causes great hurt. Bitterness actually causes more hurt to the one who is bitter. Wrath, uncontrolled outburst of anger, unstable attitude, clamor, and of course grumbling and growling. Evil speaking, putting others down and degrading them. All of the above cause one not to be rational. Whenever a person is emotionally involved they are not rationally involved. These traits must be put away immediately. WE can put these away by putting on the whole armor of God. WE must be tender hearted and kind, love as the Lord loves and forgive as the Lord forgave and still forgives.
