Can You Sleep When The Wind Blows
Mark 4:35-41
Text 38

Every now and then there arises a need to remove ourselves from the pressures and cares of everyday life. Sometimes we’re so overwhelmed by things such as bills, illnesses, jobs, family duties and other responsibilities and things that life throws at us.
So, our LORD was much the same way while He was here with us during His earthly ministry, for He was 100% man and was 100% God.
He had been walking everywhere He went, preaching, teaching and healing and all the things that were required of Him. He felt that they should get away from the multitudes that were always pressing against Him both physically and spiritually. They were always asking something from Him and like always ministering to their needs giving of Himself and isn’t that exactly like Him to put others ahead of Himself.
Let’s take a look at this part of God’s Word and see how we can learn from the LORD Himself.
(1) Why the storm, they were obeying Him by crossing the lake as He commanded. Why do storms come up in our lives, sometimes all at once.
(2) Jesus called up the storm by His divine power even over the weather and the elements. He also has the power to bring up storms for the building of our faith.
(3) Jesus can deliver us from such storms such as from dangers we may not even see coming. Such as when satan tempts us to get involved in ungodly practices or from illnesses that can harm us physically such as tumors, cancers, heart attacks, and the such. Also, even from the sting that death can bring.
(4) Jesus can calm our fears and worries that can start to destroy us from within. So often we start to fret over things that we visualize as coming but in most cases won’t ever materialize.
(5) Jesus shows us His humanity by getting tired and hungry as we, but He is always watching, never sleeping when needed and always guiding.
(6) The disciples had a problem with their faith by not believing and remembering who was in the boat with them.
(7) They showed their lack of belief and faith by not using the discernment even after seeing all the miracles and still they didn’t understand. How about us, are we the same?
(8) Jesus can also deliver and save us, when, like the boat was about to sink, when we’re about to sink and be overtaken by the storms that come up in our lives, He just speaks peace and He lifts us up and saves us from the despairs of life’s pressures,
(9) Sometimes He delivers us immediately and sometimes not. He always will give us the grace we need to pass over to the other side.
(10) When Jesus said peace be still, the disciples marveled and still they didn’t understand.
So when the storms come and the wind blows and the rains fall seemingly with no end in sight, can we, as Jesus sleep when the wind blows?
My friends call on the Master, He can calm your troubled soul and give you sweet peace
