Romans 1 says "Neither were they thankful" after listing the terrible sins the people before the Flood had committed.  God help me to never be an unthankful person but to always have an attitude of gratitude.

I am thankful for:

The Lord Jesus who died for my sins and gave me eternal life;
The love of God for me that He would call me to be His son;
My precious wife who loves me and takes care of me so wonderfully;
Eyes to see and ears to hear my wife, my children, and my grandchildren;
The wonder of watching my grandchildren grow up to be responsible people;
The air I breathe without suffering to take each breath;
The teeth I eat my food with;
The food too!
I am thankful for my automobile to drive to work;
That I have a job to go to and that I enjoy that job;
The mind God gave me to think with and appreciate His world and His people;
The Word of God He has given to us for me to read and change my heart;
Friends like yourselves to share that Word and fellowship with;
What are you thankful for?

THE BLESSING OF THANKFULNESS

By Reverend Donald H. O'Keefe

THANKFULNESS is one of the most under appreciated of virtues. Being Thankful makes me feel better about everything that surrounds me. It makes me think about and see the good that has come my way. In other words, being thankful makes me happier, more content, more confident, more loving, more kind to others, and it elevates my faith.

Being thankful makes me a nicer person and more pleasant to be around. Consequently, a thankful person will probably have more and better friends. Thankful people tend to appeal to others of a like attitude. It is a pleasure to just be around thankful people. They are uplifting and encouraging, and what's more—they appreciate you.

Of most importance is the fact that God wants us to be thankful. He has done, and continues to do great things for us. If we are not grateful for his blessings, God is not pleased with our attitude.

Now, somebody will say, "Life is not all a bed of roses." Yes, it is true, we all have some problems. And we will until Jesus sets up his kingdom on Earth. Now, I can dwell on my problems or I can dwell on blessings. Dwelling on my problems just drags me down mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually. Dwelling on my problems tends to create new problems and worsen the present ones, but dwelling on my blessings and being thankful for them has an amazing way of diminishing my problems. Being thankful gives me more power to deal with the negative things in my life.

People enjoy doing things for thankful people, but nobody is interested in doing things for those that are not thankful. Here are just a few of the things that I am grateful for:

  1. The revelation of the One Almighty God resident in Jesus Christ.
  2. The revelation of the power in the name Jesus.
  3. The new birth experience consisting of baptism in Jesus' name and the baptism of the Holy Ghost.
  4. The substitution death of Jesus at Calvary.
  5. The availing power of His blood to cover sins.
  6. The mercy and grace of God to me.
  7. The hope of everlasting life in heaven.
  8. Deliverance from sin, the power of sin, and from hell.
  9. The privilege of prayer-access to the Almighty.
  10. Answer to prayer.
  11. The family of God, the church.
  12. The Bible, which is the very Word of God.
  13. A daily, personal, intimate walk with God.
  14. The fact that I am called and chosen of God, elect in Christ
  15. His protection, His keeping power, His provision.
  16. His direction.
  17. His correction, yes, even His chastisement.
  18. The anticipation of His second coming.
  19. His glory and majesty.
  20. His abiding love, care and presence.
  21. Those that He has put in my life to minister to me.

This list is far, far, far from complete, but it is sufficient to lift me up from any discouragement, despondency, or depression. It is sufficient enough to enable me to face tomorrow with faith and win my battles. This list is sufficient enough to give me joy with the realization that I am exceedingly blessed by a God that loves me.

COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS. BE THANKFUL FOR THEM.

This is a wonderful thread and very appropriate for this month and the recent events.

I am thankful:

To know Jesus and have salvation
To be an American
To have a job when many of my coworkers are being laid off
To have family and friends who love me
To be able to share my blessings with others
To have a home when I know others don't

I could go on and on and on.....I am blessed by the Lord and I will forever be thankful to Him for all He has done in and through my life.

 I am thankful that no matter how big I get, life's circumstances will remind me of how small I am.  Then, when I realize how small I am, God reminds me that I am an heir to His kingdom.

I am thankful for friends that celebrate my strengths, but also love me enough to point out my weaknesses.

I am thankful that I spent a lot of time with my mom before we found out she had cancer.

I am thankful that my wife made a commitment to love me "for better or worse" because my better might be pretty good, but my worse really stinks.

I am thankful that even though this USA disappoints me, there is still no better place to live.

I am thankful that I have discovered so many wonderful, prayerful, Godly people through this 'Godless' entity called the internet.

I am thankful for the many trials that remind me that although God often gives me more than I can handle, He never gives me more than He and I can handle.

I am thankful for the laughter of my sons, the love of my family, and the time we get to spend together.

I would like to close this with a prayer that I heard a few months ago that I am thankful for hearing:

May God bless you with discomfort at easy answers, half truths, and superficial relationships, so that you may live deep within your heart.

May God bless you with anger at injustice, oppression, and exploitation of people, so that you may work for justice, freedom and peace.

May God bless you with tears to shed for those who suffer from pain, rejection, starvation, and war, so that you may reach out your hand to comfort them and to turn their pain into joy.

And may God bless you with enough foolishness to believe that you can make a difference in this world, so that you can do what others claim cannot be done.

Amen
