NASSAU, Bahamas - John Travolta's teenage son, Jett, died in the Bahamas after falling ill and hitting his head at his family's vacation home, police said Friday. A house caretaker found Jett, 16, unconscious in a bathroom late Friday morning. He was taken by ambulance to a Freeport hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to a statement from chief police superintendent Basil Rahming.

The teenager had last been seen going into the bathroom on Thursday and had a history of seizures, according to the statement. Police said they are planning an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

Another police spokeswoman, Loretta Mackey, said Jett apparently hit his head on the bathtub.

A spokeswoman for Rand Memorial Hospital in Freeport said she could not release any information because of privacy concerns.

Jett was the oldest child of Travolta and his wife, actress Kelly Preston, who also have an 8-year-old daughter. The family arrived on a private plane Tuesday and had been vacationing at their home in the Old Bahama Bay resort community.

Amazing how all so much of the chat on other boards attribute Jett's death to the Scientology religion of the Travoltas.  They assume he neglected him medically, etc etc etc... What assholes.

It's a horrible time for his parents.. I'm sorry to hear about this.

I HATE IT when celebrity family member deaths make front page news.  Makes my blood boil every - single  - time.... as if they warrant front page news because their mom or dad or sister or aunt or cousin is a celebrity.  Bullshit.

I'm broken hearted. I'd planned to marry John as soon as Kelly was out of the picture.
All kidding aside....it's hard anytime a parent loses a child and I feel for the family. They mention that some speculated Jett was Autistic but John denies that rumor. I might have to research that.

Fluff...I know what you mean but "America" is obsessed with television and it's icons...this is why this happens.

I like John Travolta, and I don't have a problem with this being a news story. We care about celebrities, so this is news.

I don't know much about Scientology, and I wont judge it by negative press. I did read a little bit of Dianetics, I know what engrams are, and understand the concept of becoming "clear." John Travolta and Tom Cruise are very successful individuals, so whatever works for them is OK with me. As far as denying a child medication, I'll have to defer to the judgment of the Travoltas, as I can't possibly know what is or isn't right for them.

When I read this yesterday, I was shocked.  The death of a child is very traumatic and I can only imagine the pain they are dealing with now.  My heart goes out to them.   I don't understand why any paper would want to put this on their front page.  It's horrible.  Or on the nightly news....it's just another way of reliving it.  Whether a parent is celebrity or not, I believe they should have the say as to how they want to announce the death of their child, not the reporters.

So front page news of Tom Brady's engagement to his latest concubine is ok?

Front page of who is leaving Days is ok?

Front page of Brangelina's latest offspring is ok?

I suppose I should say...sorry I beat ya to the scoop.

Yeah.. those items are ok... those stories aren't about the personal tragedies of celebrity families.  I bitched about this very same issue on the Jennifer Hudson thread.... It's not because you beat me to the scoop and I'm not keeping score anyway.

On the front page of what newspaper did these stories appear? Not my local newspaper.

I didn't see it on any front page. I was just responding to Carole who said she hates when celebrity family deaths make the front page.

I meant "Front Page News" as in gossip, gossip, gossip... check People Magazine, US, OK, National Enquirer.. I'm betting Jett makes every cover next week... just like Jennifer Hudson.
