Chocolate Pecan Cookies
2 cups sifted all-purpose flour 1 teaspoon baking powder 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/4 teaspoon baking soda 3/4 cup butter 2 ounces unsweetened chocolate, melted 1 egg 1 teaspoon vanilla 1/4 cup milk granulated sugar pecan halves
Into a bowl, sift together the sifted flour, baking powder, salt, & baking soda into sifter. In a mixing bowl, cream butter & brown sugar until fluffy. Beat in melted chocolate, egg, vanilla, & milk. Sift in dry ingredients, about 1/3 at a time, blending to make a soft dough. Chill for 3-4 hours or overnight, or until dough is firm enough to handle. Add the granulated sugar to a pie plate.
Shape dough, about 1 teaspoon at a time, into small balls; roll in granulated sugar. Place on ungreased cookie sheets, spacing about 3 inches apart. Using the bottom of a glass, flatten each cookie to about 1/4-inch thick. Top each with a pecan half. Bake in a preheated 350° oven for 10-12 minutes, or until firm. Carefully remove from cookie sheet and cool on racks. Store in a tightly covered container. Makes about 4 dozen cookies.
