. ONE RUNE DRAW

This method is a very simple way to consult the RUNES. This method will not help you come to grips with the complexities of a situation, but it can be very useful for a quick, immediate view of the fundamental dynamic of the situation.

This method is very simple. You will need to concentrate on your question.....Then reach into your RUNE pouch and draw ONE Rune.

.

.

.

Simply examine this RUNE and how it applies to your situation.

As I said, This casting will not give you an indepth look at a situation, but will give you an idea of where to start or what is important to the situation right now.

. Three RUNE Spread.

. The Three RUNE method is also an easy method to use. This casting is good to use for questions that require a relatively straightforward answer. It certainly should not be used for multiple questions, but a single question will garner good results.

In order to use this method, you will need to concentrate on your question then reach into your RUNE pouch - drawing out three RUNES - and lay them out like this... .

Depending on what type of answer you are looking for, will determine what you will do next.

. .

A... If you want a simple YES or NO answer....

...... ~ Look at the RUNES to determine if there are more Upright or Reversed RUNES

...... ~ If there are more Upright RUNES, the answer is YES.

...... ~ If there are more Reversed RUNES, the answer is NO

...... ~ If all three RUNES are RUNES with no reverse, the answer is YES.

B... Another way to read a three RUNE cast is to look at the RUNES in the following way:

1. Is a look at the OVERVIEW of the situation.

2. Is a look at the CHALLENGE that you are facing in this situation.

3. Is a look at the ACTION that you should take OR avoid in this situation.

C... Similar to the second type of casting is the NORNIC THREE RUNES. In this type of casting, you look at the three RUNES that you drew in the following way:

1. Is a look at the PAST INFLUENCES that helped bring the present siuation about.

2. Is a look at the PRESENT INFLUENCES and ENERGY in the situation.

3. Is a look at the PROBABLE OUTCOME (based on the first two RUNES)

This outcome is NOT assured.

. Five RUNE Spread.

. .The Five RUNE casting is similar to the Three RUNE method as well as also being an easy method to use. This casting is good to use for questions that require a relatively straightforward answer as well. It could be used for multiple questions, but a single question will garner better results. The Five RUNE method will give you a little more insight into a problem than the Three RUNE will.

In order to use this method, you will need to concentrate on your question then reach into your RUNE pouch - drawing out five RUNES - and lay them out like this... .

Next, you will look at the RUNES that you have drawn and correlate them with the following:

1. Is a look at the PRESENT VIEW of the situation. - What is occuring now.

2. Is a look at the OBSTACLE or CHALLENGE that you are facing in this situation.

3. Is a look at the GOAL that you should try to or wish to achieve in this situation.

4. Is what your WORRY over the situation is. (This worry can be a conscious or unconscious worry.)

5. Is what the FINAL RESULT of the question will be IF all of the previous steps were followed. .

As I said before, this casting will give you more insight into a situation. The final result RUNE of this casting can be changed. IF you do not follow all of the previous RUNEs' advice, it will be different. You can CHOOSE to have things turn out differently, if you desire, by heeding the advice of the prior RUNEs to make a change for the better. You can also change the outcome by ignoring the advice of the RUNEs. This could result in Woe or Weal for you. .

YOU have the choice to make your Wyrd. The RUNE's don't always state what WILL happen, only what could happen should you follow what is presented to you. .

. Elemental Cross .

. The Elemental Cross casting is similar to the Three and Five RUNE method, being only a little more complicated method to use. This casting is good to use for questions that require a relatively straightforward answer as well. It could be used for multiple questions, but a single question will garner better results. Elemental Cross will give you about as much information as Five RUNE cast.

In order to use this method, you will need to concentrate on your question then reach into your RUNE pouch - drawing out five RUNES - and lay them out like this... .

Next, you will look at the RUNES that you have drawn and correlate them with the following:

1. Is a look at the PAST VIEW of the situation. - What has brought you to this point.

2. Is a look at the PRESENT VIEW of the situation. - What is occurring now.

3. Is a look at the FUTURE and what could happen in the situation.

4. Is what ASSISTANCE you can expect in the situation.

5. Is what the OUTCOME of the question will be. (This is also known as what cannot be changed.) .

Similar to the Elemental Cross is the Simple Cross. In this way of reading, the RUNES are set into the aforementioned shape and the RUNES coorelate to mean:

1. Is a look at the PAST VIEW of the situation. - What has brought you to this point.

2. Is a look at the PRESENT VIEW of the situation. - What is occurring now.

3. Is a look at the RESULT of the situation and what you can expect.

4. Is what ASSISTANCE is available to the querent. - This can signifigantly affect the outcome.

5. Signifies the OBSTACLE that is confronting the querent.

** In this casting, both RUNES 3 and 4 should be looked at at the same time. .

.

In BOTH of these ways of looking at a cross casting, it is important to look at RUNES 3, 4, and 5 together. The outcome is not just waiting to be realized. If you understand the situation, see clearly the obstacles ahead, and take advantage of any help that you can, you can signifigantly alter the results.

Three Lifetimes Spread .

. The Three Lifetimes Spread is shaped similar to the Elemental Cross casting. This spread is used more for a little fun. This also is used to look at things that have occurred in a past life that are affecting what is going on with you now, and how what is going on now will affect a future life of yours.

In order to use this method, you will need to concentrate on your question then reach into your RUNE pouch - drawing out five RUNES - and lay them out like this... .

.

.Next, you will look at the RUNES that you have drawn and correlate them with the following:

1. Is a look at the BIRTH or CHILDHOOD of your present life and how that has affected what is going on now.

2. Is a look at the PRESENT VIEW of the situation. - What is occurring now.

3. Is a look at the FUTURE of this life and what could happen.

4. Is a look at the PAST INCARNATION and waht baggage you are bringing with you that is affecting what is going on now.

5. Is a look at a FUTURE INCARNATION and how what is occurring now will affect that incarnation. .

With this casting, you cannot, unfortunately, affect how a past incarnation reacted to a situation - what is done is done. What is nice, however, is that you can take what has occurred to you before and learn from it. With this casting, you can also affect what will happen to you in future incarnations. If you learn in this life what you need to, it will help you in the next. .

Runic Cross Spread .

. The Runic Cross Spread is shaped similar to the Elemental Cross casting, but has more RUNES in it. This spread is used when you want to have more clarification to an answer than with a Three RUNE Spread or Elemental Cross. This spread can be used to answer multiple questions.

.In order to use this method, you will need to concentrate on your question then reach into your RUNE pouch - drawing out Six RUNES - and lay them out like this... .

.

Next, you will look at the RUNES that you have drawn and correlate them with the following:

1. Is a look at the PAST and how that is affecting what is going on now.

2. Is a look at the PRESENT VIEW of the situation. - What is occurring now.

3. Is a look at the FUTURE view and what could happen.

4. Is a look at the FOUNDATION of the problem - this can also show what your strengths are that you can apply to the situation.

5. Is a look at the CHALLANGE that you are facing right now and will have to successfully navigate through in order to move on.

6. Is the NEW SITUATION that will come about as a result of successfully completing your challange. .

With this casting, you can look a little ahead to see what will be coming with a successful resolution of your challenge. This casting is also nice in that it can show you what the strengths you have (that can be built upon) which can help you with your problem. It is a little more involved than the previous castings, but you also get more information. .

Mimir's Head Casting .

. The Mimir's Head Casting method is an interesting method of reading the RUNES when there are variables. "What If" questions work well with this layout. Mimir is the name of the Norse God who established himself as an oracle. Keep in mind that all oracles often provide paradoxical answers. It is best to consider all the possibilites.

In order to use this method, you will need to concentrate on your question then reach into your RUNE pouch - drawing out seven RUNES - and lay them out like this... .

Next, you will want to look at the different RUNES and read them in pairs. They are interpreted in this way: .

PROBLEM

RUNES 1 & 2

These RUNES address how YOU see the problem. You will need to interpret each seperately, then blend the two together. This shows the essence of your difficulty. >

..

OUTSIDE INFLUENCES

RUNES 3 & 4

These two RUNES show the outside factors that have led to the present position. They provide a more objective view of the problem. They should also be blended together.

. .

RESPONSE

RUNES 4 & 5

These two RUNES show the essential response to the question. They offer advice about how to proceed. They may tell you what to do; they maysugge a shift of emphasis; they may even tell you to take NO action. Again, they are to be blended together.

.

RESULT

RUNE 7

This last RUNE shows the final outcome of the casting. It is the outgrowth of the rest of the reading and should be considered in that context. With the RUNES, nothing occurs in it's own vaccuum.

NOTE: This layout normally reaches three (3) months into the past and extends three (3) months into the future.

Celtic Cross .

. The Celtic Cross casting is extremely old and widely used by Tarot card readers to this day. This casting is good to use for questions that require a relatively straightforward answer, but is also good for questions that need a more in depth answer, as well as for multiple questions. The Celtic Cross casting will give you much more information than any of the previous spreads.

In order to use this method, you will need to concentrate on your question then reach into your RUNE pouch - drawing out Ten RUNES - and lay them out like this... .

RUNES

**NOTE - In this casting, RUNES 1 and 2 are crossed. To do this, lay RUNE 2 at a right angle below RUNE 1.

.
Next, you will look at the RUNES that you have drawn and correlate them with the following:

1. Is a look at the PRESENT VIEW of the situation. - What is occurring now.

2. Is a "CROSSING" RUNE. This is a look at the OBSTACLE or problem that needs to be addressed in order for the situation to be resolved.

** Since this RUNE is horizontal, it is wise to treat it as reversed since it is representative of negative trends.

3. Is a look at the PAST and what has led to the situation.

4. Is a look at the FUTURE (or potential) and what lies ahead with the situation.

5. Is the AMBITIONS and desires of the querent.

6. Shows what has INFLUENCED the situation.

7. Are the INTERNAL STRENGTHS that the querent has which can be built upon to improve the situation.

8. Is what ASSISTANCE you can find from others with the situation.

9. This shows the HOPES and FEARS of the person involved in the situation.

10. This shows the likely OUTCOME of the situation - this should be considered in tandem with RUNE 4, which indicates the future.

..

With this type of cross casting, you get a lot more information than the other castings shown so far. This casting will give you a good overview of the situation. This casting is also good to use if you do not have a specific question, as it can give you a general idea of what you need to know.

.

CONNECTING the information from RUNES in different positions with this casting can help lead you to greater understanding.

The real reason for the casting, or where the problems lie, are within the RUNES 1, 2 and 4. Look at these specifically for the problem.

RUNES 1 and 4 are things that have ACTIVELY influenced your present situation. They helped to shape the question you are asking now.

RUNES 2 and 7 are the dilemmas that you do not want to face.

RUNES 3 and 7 are how experiences from the past created your internal strengths.

RUNES 3 and 4 are how your actions and attitudes were shaped by past experiences.

RUNES 5 and 9 show that what you EXPECT from a situation, will often affect your ability to bring it about.

RUNES 6 and 9 this will show you how to turn your hopes (or fears) into reality.

Four Quarters Casting.

. The Four Quarters method is an interesting method of reading the RUNES when an outcome has more than one implication. For instance, if the querent is faced with the prospect of moving to a new home, the implications that they have to consider might be having to move their children to a new school and find another job.

This type of reading requires considerable experience as it involves groups of three RUNES as well as pairs of RUNES. Due to this, a great degree of intuition and synthesis must be called upon.

In order to use this method, you will need to concentrate on your question then reach into your RUNE pouch - drawing out eleven RUNES - and lay them out like this... .

Next, you will want to look at the different corners and their RUNES in this way:

CENTRAL POSITION

11 - CURRENT SITUATION

This final RUNE, at the center, describes why the querent has come for the casting.

THE LEFT-HAND QUARTER

1, 2 & 10 - INNER STRENGTHS

The three RUNES on the left-hand side indicate what qualities the querent brings to the present situation in terms of inner strengths and weaknesses - Physical, Emotional or Mental. The RUNE in the center of this quarter (RUNE # 1), is the controlling RUNE of this triad and must be given greater consideration than the other two.

THE RIGHT-HAND QUARTER

5, 6 & 7 - CURRENT DIFFICULTIES

The three RUNES on the right-hand side show the particular difficulties that the querent faces. As with the first quarter, the central RUNE (RUNE #6) carries the maximum influence.

THE TOP CORNER

3 & 4 - IMMEDIATE FUTURE

These two RUNES, at the top, show what will occur in the immediate future. This could affect, or be a result from the situation.

THE BOTTOM CORNER

9 & 8 - OUTCOME

These two RUNES, at the bottom, show what the longer term future or outcome can be. This, of course, can always change as you now have the knowledge to affect the outcome.

Zodiac Runecast .

. The Zodiac Runecast method is a good all-around runecast, as it considers many areas of your life and offers a simple way to look ahead when you don't have a specific question in mind. It offers a way to understand your position within life's process. The reading is designed to look one year into the future.

In order to use this method, you will need to concentrate on your question then reach into your RUNE pouch - drawing out thirteen RUNES - and lay them out like this... .

.

Heimdales Eight .

. This Method of casting the RUNES is more complex than the other methods mentioned so far. It gives a very detailed view of the querent's current situation and what has brought them to this point. There are four result RUNES, which give a thorough grasp of the dynamics of the outcome of the situation. Obviously, this type of RUNE casting should not be undertaken until you are fairly experienced. This is due to needing knowledge and experience in order to practice this effectively.

In order to use this method, you will need to concentrate on your question then reach into your RUNE pouch - drawing out SIXTEEN RUNES - and lay them out in pairs like this...

.

Next, you will look at the RUNES that you have drawn and correlate them with the following:
1 & 2 - STRENGTHS The first two RUNEs indicate what strengths the querent has available and how they might be used to solve the problem.
3 & 4 - SYMPTOMS RUNEs 3 and 4 show how the querent is coping with the situation physically, mentally and emotionally.
5 & 6 - PAST RUNEs 5 and 6 relate to the past and the underlying reasons that have brought the querent to this point.
7 & 8 - OBSTACLES RUNEs 7 and 8 show the obstacles that lie in the querent's path in this situation.
9 & 10 - PEOPLE INVOLVED RUNEs 9 and 10 represent the people involved in creating the obstacles that lie in the querent's path.
11 & 12 - PRESENT RUNEs 11 and 12 Show what is happeniing in the present.
13 & 14 - FUTURE RUNEs 13 and 14 Represent the future.
15 & 16 - OUTCOME RUNEs 15 and 16 focus on the likely outcome.

This is an EXCELLENT casting to use when dealing with partnership issues. With this method, you can allocate the first RUNE of a pair to to be the querent, and the second RUNE of each pair to be the querent's lover, business partner, etc.

Astrological Cast .

. This Method of casting the RUNES is more complex than the other methods mentioned so far. It gives an extremely detailed view of the querent's current situation. This is another type of RUNE casting should not be undertaken until you are fairly experienced. This is due to needing knowledge and experience in order to practice this effectively.

In order to use this method, you will need to have a cloth or sheet of paper which is inscribed with a chart, split into 12 sections, much like the following... .

.

.

.

( You do not need to have a chart that is as fancy as the one above, in fact, a simpler one is encouraged. I could not find a gif of a simpler one, so I am using the best I could find. Instead of the signs of the zodiac, you will just need to simply number the sections of the chart 1 - 12 starting with the left side of the chart [ Marked with a Ram and colored orange on the above chart ] as number 1. Then number the rest in order COUNTER CLOCKWISE.)

.

OR one like this... .

.

.

.

This type of casting is a "throw" reading. You will need to place all 25 RUNES in your cupped hands, concentrate on your question, thoroughly shake them, and release them so that they fall over the cloth (or sheet - whichever you have your chart on). Retain ONLY those that have fallen WITHIN the circle and put the rest back in your pouch.

Next, turn face up all of those that remain. Move any that have fallen across a "house" line into the house which the greater part of the RUNE has fallen. (NOTE: If you are a more advanced reader, or also an astrologer, you may want to look at the RUNES that cross as being an influence in BOTH houses.) You will also need to make a subjective decision as to whether you feel a RUNE is reversed or not. I tend to follow the method that all runes that fall Face Down are considered reversed.)

.

.

In order to interpret this type of casting, you will need to understand the meanings of the various houses. Allying this knowledge with the symbollism of the different RUNES will help to give you an accurate indication of the dynamics of the situation. The meanings of the houses are as follows:

FIRST HOUSE

The first house represents the physical appearance and the personality of the querent. It may also describe the precise circumstances that have brought the querent to consult the RUNES.

.

SECOND HOUSE

The second house indicates the talents at the querent's disposal. These may well be financial, but may also relate to a more creative side that has practical applications.

.

THIRD HOUSE

The third house has much to do with travel, but only on a fairly local level, as well as all forms of communication. It also governs immediate family, especially siblings.

.

FOURTH HOUSE

The fourth house symbolizes the querent's family and home environment. It also denotes the parents, generally the father, but in some cases the mother. You will need to use your intuition in deciding whether the father or the mother is indicated with any RUNES that fall in this house.

.

FIFTH HOUSE

This is the house of creativity, and in the most basic sense therefore, symbolizes children. It does, however, govern all aspects of creativity, so artistic expression comes under the aegis of this house. It is also associated with risky ventures in general and can thus be associated with gambling.

.

SIXTH HOUSE

The sixth house governs health and issues and also indicates a tendency to neurosis in the specific area of life designated by any RUNE falling here. It also symbolizes the day-to-day chores that comprise much of our lives. On a more positive note, the sixth house also governs attention to detail and and the act of service.

.

SEVENTH HOUSE

The seventh house governs all overt relationships, particularly those involving lovers or partners of any kind, but may also indicate open enmity. In view of this, it can also relate to legal disputes.

.

EIGHTH HOUSE

Traditionally, the eighth house governs other people's money, so it often concerns wills, legacies and banking. This house has much to do with things that are hidden and inaccessible. This could be serious illness or investments that cannot be touched for legal reasons.

.

NINTH HOUSE

The theme of the ninth house is long-distance travel. This may not, however, be physical travel, but instead further education or spiritual growth. This is also a house which is generally considered to bring good luck.

.

TENTH HOUSE

The tenth house governs the ambitions and career of the querent. It symbolizes the way the querent values some things in life. It can generally be considered to represent the mother.

.

ELEVENTH HOUSE

The eleventh house symbolizes the querent's attitude toward society in general as well as their social circle. This house also symbolizes hopes and wishes. This house may also show where a querent's political leanings are.

.

TWELFTH HOUSE

This final house is generally associated with pain and loss. This is also sacrifice or institutions such as hospitals and prisons. This is where your compassion lies as well as your secrets, sorrows and the way you escape problems. This is also known as the "house of self-undoing".

As you can see, this cast can be a little confusing. There will be some houses into which no RUNES will fall in a given casting. This simply means that there were no influences in that area for the question. Conversly, some houses may have more than one RUNE fall into them. These are all factors that are included in that area of the question.

RUNE Toss .

. This Method of casting the RUNES is also more complex than most of the other methods mentioned so far. It is fairly simple to do, but requires a good knowledge of the RUNES as well as the ability to coorelate them. It gives an extremely detailed view of the querent's current situation. This is another type of RUNE casting should not be undertaken until you are fairly experienced.

In order to use this method, you will need to have your RUNE cloth handy. Spread your cloth out in front of you. .

This type of casting is a "throw" reading. You will need to place all 25 RUNES in your cupped hands, concentrate on your question, thoroughly shake them, and release them so that they fall over the cloth.

Now, there are a couple of things you will need to do.

1. Retain ONLY those that have fallen on the cloth and put the rest back in your pouch. They are not a factor in this reading

2. Remove any RUNE that has fallen FACE DOWN and put them back in your pouch. They are not a factor in this reading.

3. You will need to determine which RUNES, if any, are reversed. .

. Next, you will need to look at the RUNES which remain in order to do your reading. This reading will come from YOUR intuition as to how the RUNES apply to your situation. In this type of casting, there are no set positions as to what each RUNE stands for. It is your judgement. There are a few simple areas to keep in mind with this casting. .

AREA # 1 ..... The first thing to look for is any RUNES that are lying on top of another. This generally signifies that the top RUNE is "crossing" the bottom RUNE - or in other words is in oposition to the bottom RUNE. .

AREA # 2 ..... The second thing to look for is any RUNES that are clustered close together. This generally signifies that these forces are working together are affecting each other in some way. Pay close attention to the clusters. .

AREA # 3 ..... Finally, trust your feelings. The RUNES are telling you about what you need to know. You will have to use these feelings and your intuition in order to get whatthey are saying. .

As you can see, this cast can be a little hard to do if you do not have a firm grasp of the RUNES. This cast can give you a lot of answers, and is one that most more experienced casters use.
