Pressing Herbs And Flowers

Pressed Flower White Opaque Glass Jar

Supplies

  • Jar
  • Decoupage material
  • Sponge Brushes
  • Glue - Extra to keep on hand
  • Toothpicks - Extra to keep on hand
  • Pressed botanicals

1. Clean all dirt and residues off jar and let dry. Dis-assemble if necessary.

2. Coat evenly with a layer of decoupage material.  If it beads at all, make the first coat thicker or lay a second coat.

3. To attach botanicals, I put one fairly thick coat of decoupage on, then pressed in the botanicals while it was wet.  You may need to press leaf and petal edges down as it dries and gets tacky as they may tend to pop up.

4. If the curve of the surface is a problem, try leaning something against the botanical portion that keeps sticking up until it dries.  You may end up having to snip it off.

5. After that coat is dry, you may want to tack down any more troublesome petals or leaves with a toothpick and tiny dab of glue.  Let dry about 15 - 20 minutes.

6. I suggest 2-3 more coats of decoupage, letting it dry 20 - 30 min. in between layers.  You can finish this off with an acrylic sealer for a more durable finish.

To clean finished product, wipe with a damp, not wet soft rag. Do not clean in a dishwasher or soak in hot soapy water.
