 MAKE A WITCHY BOX

This was a craft that I made up when I went to stay with another family and I was not sure of their religion. It is basically just a box that looks like a book to keep a few small ritual items in.

Start with a box with hinges on the FRONT, make sure the hinges aren’t visible from the side. Paint the box any colour you like and decorate the front. You could also try lining the inside of the box with velvet or felt if you like. Either make yourself, or get one off a book you already own, a label to put on the spine of the box. Pick a name that people wouldn’t suspect (or want to read!), for example if you like gardening, make a label that says, 101 ways to perfect roses, if you like science call it, Darwin’s Theory of Evolution. (get the picture?)

Now find small items that you could put in the box. Things like:

  • A small, white, votive candle (tapers probably won’t fit and white is best if you can only fit one.)
  • A tealight candle
  • A box of matches, or a nice lighter..
  • A few small lengths of ribbon.
  • Some paper. You can save space by rolling this up and putting a elastic band around it.
  • A pencil or pen. You could slide this inside the rolled up paper if you like.
  • Some small gemstones and shells
  • Any special pendants or ornaments
  • Pictures
  • A small vial of oil
  • A couple of short incense sticks or cones

This amount of stuff fit in my box without too much trouble. To help save space I used blutack to attach my gemstones to the inside cover of the box, and stuck the shells on the inside walls. They’re very easy to remove and it saves space as well as looking good. You could also place a copy of the Rede or perhaps any special quotes on the inside cover if you like.

Now you just need to place the box between 2 other books so just the spine is showing. Hopefully no-one will ever guess :)
