The Reid Family came from Scotland mostly. In 1683 and 1684, the Scotish attempted to settle in present day New Jersey and South Carolina. This group consisted mainly of Quakers and Presbyterian dissenters. In the early 1700's, many Scottish chose to immigrate to the United States as indentured servants, mainly to New York.  By 1790, 48, 500 of  950,000 immigrants to the United States were from Scotland.  In the next thirty years, 50,000 more Scotch-Irish immigrants came to the United States.

Port They Left From

The port of departure is not always the port where a person first boarded a ship.

Oftentimes, the departure was listed as the last port the ship had stopped prior to

reaching the arrival port. Therefore, many immigrants are shown as having

departed from ports nowhere near their original boarding locations.

Liverpool, England is said to be a key Port of Departure for the Reid Family in 1913. Liverpool is the third city of Great Britain and after London the leading commercial port of Europe. It is situated on the east bank of the Mersey estuary, three miles from the Irish Sea and 175 miles northwest of London. The city owes its chief importance to its being a great seat of foreign export and import trade. It is the main outlet for the manufactures of Lancashire, Yorkshire, and Staffordshire, and carries on the principal part of the trade of England with Australia, America, India, Africa and the Mediterranean. So as you can see Liverpool played a great part to the ancestors of the Duhaney/Dehaney  Family and the Reid Family. The Reid and Duhaney is my family so Liverpool played an important part in the lives of my family and the history of my family background. If there is ever a place i would like to see, is Liverpool for sure along with Scotland and Ireland.

Tonnage:83,673. Dimensions 987 X118(1,031 o.l.)

Quadruple-screw, 31 knots Steam turbines

Her funnels are 70 feet high from deck level.

Commenced her first sailing from the Clyde, bound

for New York, February 27, 1940.

Before 1880, transatlanic voyages lasted up to three months. To increase profits, steerage compartments were filled far beyond capacity. Food and clean water were scarce, and much of it turned bad before the journey's end. Most passengers were refused access to the ship's decks, so they had no escape from the foul conditions which worsened as the journey progressed and seasickness, disease, and death struck.
