If We Wait, We Will Walk & Not Faint

We can "walk this walk" as Christians. It is indeed possible. We don't have to feel fatigued, exhausted, and wearied from the constant tiresome motions forward. We don't have to grow faint every time that we strive to go further and further in God. In every attitude, we can be found "strong in the Lord, and in the power of His might"(Ephesians 6:10). In fact, this is the way God planned it to be. What is the key or secret to success? This message has your answer from the Word of God.

Isaiah 40:31 says - "But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint."

For the purpose of this message, we would like to closely examine the words - "and they shall walk, and not faint."

Many are finding themselves exhausted from the "trip." They don't seem to have the strength to bear the trials that are coming their way... to keep up their Christian duties on a regular basis...nor to walk the toilsome journey of life without fainting along the way.

Yet the Scripture tells us - "and they shall walk, and not faint."

When the Prophet Isaiah mentioned the word "walk" while under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, what did he mean?

The Word of God spells it out for us.

To "walk" entails the following -

Deuteronomy 5:33 - "Ye shall walk in all the ways which the LORD your God hath commanded you..." - avoiding or departing from none of His ways - not turning to the right hand nor to the left.

Deuteronomy 28:9 - "...if thou shalt keep the commandments of the LORD thy God, and walk in His ways" - under the influence of His grace - setting out in His ways and walking in them unto the very end.

Joshua 22:5 - "...to walk in all His ways..." - not walking in your own ways but in the ways which God has prescribed - worship, faith, truth, holiness, and righteousness.

1 Kings 8:36 - "...that thou teach them the good way wherein they should walk..." - The "good way" is the profitable way of worship and duty toward God.

Proverbs 2:7 - "...He is a buckler to them that walk uprightly" - To "walk uprightly" entails choosing God with the whole heart... being fully submitted to His will...and seeking after good with no exceptions.

Isaiah 2:3 - "...He will teach us of His ways, and we will walk in His paths..." - walking according to the rule of His Word.

Isaiah 30:21 - "...This is the way, walk ye in it..." - Like a Shepherd who follows his sheep and calls out warnings when he sees them going the wrong way, even so does God keep us on the right track.

Jeremiah 6:16 - "...ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein..." - The "old way" consists of the path of faith and holiness which the saints of old earnestly traveled.

Jeremiah 7:23 - "...and walk ye in all the ways that I have commanded you..." - Hearken to God's voice and walk in all of His commands.

Ezekiel 37:24 - "...they shall also walk in My judgments..." - following the precepts of the moral law.

Micah 6:8 - "...walking humbly with thy God" - keeping up a constant fellowship with Him...conforming to His will...and keeping a watch of prayer.

Romans 6:4 - "...even as we also should walk in newness of life" - walking with a new heart...abiding by new rules and principles...and working toward a new end.

Romans 8:1 - "...who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit" - no longer obeying the dictates of the flesh, but those of the Holy Spirit.

Romans 13:13 - "Let us walk honestly..." - walking decently, orderly, honorably, uprightly, and becomingly.

2 Corinthians 5:7 - "...we walk by faith, not by sight." - We do not conduct our lives according to the appearance of things.

Galatians 5:16 - "...Walk in the Spirit..." - Follow the influence and guidance of the Holy Spirit.

Ephesians 5:2 - "And walk in love..." - Our lives are characterized by love toward God and men.

Philippians 3:16 - "...let us walk by the same rule..." - regulating our lives according to God's Word.

Colossians 1:10 - "...walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing..." - seeking to please God in all things.

Colossians 2:6 - "...received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in Him" - Walk with Him in faith, love, and holiness in the daily course of life.

1 John 1:7 - "...walk in the light..." - living a life of holiness and purity while continuously deriving power and life from Him.

Revelation 3:4 - "...have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with Me in white..." - walking undefiled in joy, holiness, and glory.

The Prophet Isaiah said - "and they shall walk, and not faint."

How is it possible to do so?

He explains with these words - "But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength..."

"Waiting upon the LORD" does not entail inactivity. Simply said - it means to rely upon Him...wait upon Him with expectancy...wait for His help...put your hope and confidence in Him...trust in Him...and expect deliverance to come from Him alone. It is especially directed to those who are feeling weak, feeble, guilty, or helpless and are facing danger or lack.

So, how is it possible for any and all Christians to "walk the walk" as the Scriptures outline?

They simply do their part in "waiting upon the Lord" and He - in turn - enables them to "walk, and not faint."

Everyone enjoys the times of soaring like an eagle or running through troops for God. These are the times filled with notable miracles, great anointings, and outstanding breakthroughs.

But what about the common every day "walking with God" - when oftentimes He is seemingly no where to be found - a time when we are required to - "walk by faith, and not by sight"?

In closing, we offer you a final quote from W.E. Vine's book on Isaiah which says - "To wait upon the Lord is not simply a matter of patience, or even of longing, it means trust and the confidence which characterize our hope. To experience this is to go from strength to strength, drawing continually from the resources of His power."

Hence, if you will "wait," you will "walk" and "not faint."

May God Bless His Word.
Connie
