 Every so often I get into the mode where I wish I could just experience some miracles. I know they ARE happening.. but gosh they always seem to be the slow ones. The kind that you pray for and then nothing seems to happen and then ten weeks later you look back and say, "Oh my gosh, look how that turned out! Quite a Miracle." And yet impatient, me would like to see some walking on water every now and again. Maybe I'm a miracle addict. Always trying to get another miracle fix. Sigh. Today, a friend called and shared a miracle that she experienced. Another slow one but truly a miracle. She had a very bad knee that was causing her an extense amount of pain. So she took a holy card of our Poor Clare foundress in the United States.. Mother Mary Magdalene Bentivoglio and placed it on her hurting knee and asked for her help. She called to share that her knee was now almost completely pain free and she was sooo thankful.
I actually experienced a miracle of sorts today as well. I went out to see my mom. It was one of those gray, low and heavy days (I am a Weather Affected Mood person) and it was such a push to get in the car and hit the road for the 45 minute trip out. All the way out I was praying that some how I could bring some sort of smile to my mom. I didn't have any little stuff toy to bring her or little treat that might cheer her up. Nothing but me and that seemed sort of a blah thing to offer seeming how blah I was feeling. But the miracle was - she brought Joy and a smile to me! She was in her wheelchair when I arrived - sitting at a table in the dining room. Sort of blank and just there. So I went up and smiled and gave her a hug and she smiled. And then I took her for a wheely ride out of the compound and down the hallways of the rest of the nursing home. We stopped and looked at pictures along the wall, visited the fish in the family reception room, went into the lobby and decided that was too cold for a longer stay and turned around and came back.
One of the CNA's told me how to get mom in and out of the compound. Very tricky, because she has a alarm monitor on her wheelchair that won't let the door open to the outside if she gets too close to it. So you almost need a friendly CNA (and thankfully they are ALL friendly there) to open the door. So this is how you do it. You leave your mom in her wheelchair about six to eight feet from the door. Go ahead and open the door and then zip back to mom - and get through the door! But... the door will close before you get close.. so... that is where you need the friendly CNA to lend a helping hand. It's a two man escape but we did it! To get back in.... leave mom back aways... open the door and look around for someone to help let us back in! And we did it! A bit of a struggle.. but worth it.. and besides its brings about a little friendly help with the CNA's. I am just starting to get to know them - so little interactions.. asking for help ... sort of fosters that.
Today the nurse shared with me and two others that they remembered my Dad being there. That was nice. It was over ten years ago.. and they still have much of the same staff. Now that should tell you what a wonderful place Good Sam is!
Well - tomorrow is Monday and then there is Tuesday.. and is anyone with me on being so THANKFUL when the elections will be over and done with? Count me at the top of the list! I am praying and hoping for the best - and trusting that whatever happens.. God will be there for us. God is the one I'm putting my money on. AND I have already made up my mind.. that whoever gets elected.. whether they are the ones I vote for or not... they will get my prayers. Because that is what God commands us to do and whoever gets the job.. they will need lots of prayers!
