EXPOSING THE ENEMY

Pride goes before destruction,
a haughty spirit before a fall.
  (NIV)

First pride, then the crash --
the bigger the ego, the harder the fall.

(Msg)
~Proverbs 16:18

Jesus overcame Satan with the Word of God.  And that is how you must overcome every tactic he brings along, because Jesus made you victorious in this life.  Therefore, it is necessary to recognize the enemy's tactics when you see them.  One of the main tactics he uses is pride.

Pride is what he used to get Eve to fall in the garden.  Eve said, we may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden, but the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden God has said we shall not eat of it, neither shall we touch it lest we die.

"You won't die!" the serpent hissed.  "God knows that your eyes will be opened when you eat it.  You will become just like God, knowing everything, both good and evil" (Genesis 3:4-5 NLT).

He appealed to her flesh and to her pride.  And the Bible said pride goes before destruction.

The Bible said Satan was once the most beautiful creation of God.  And pride caused him to fall.  And do you know that every time a Christian falls that it's because of pride?  So Satan will make an appeal to the flesh and an appeal to the area of pride.  And he'll do it through many ways.

Now in this case, he said God is withholding something from Eve to keep her from being like God.  And once the woman started looking at the tree, it was all over.  She became caught up in how good it looked.

And if Satan can get someone out of the spirit realm and over into the flesh realm, you can be sure they are headed for a fall.  If he can get your eyes off of the Word of God and on what you see with your eyes, then a fall is sure to follow.

However, you are an overcomer in Christ Jesus.  And greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world (1 John 4:4).  So, whenever pride seems to creep into your life, recognize it and sidestep it with the Word of God.  Don't fall for pride.  Stand up for Jesus.
