Living Baggage Free

by Pastor Simon

Truly I say to you, unless you repent (change, turn about) and become like little children (trusting, lowly, loving, forgiving), you can never enter the kingdom of heaven.

Matthew 18:3 - Amplified Bible

In the Gospels Jesus presents us with a very small child as an example of how to be. The gist of what He then says is, "Turn around your present trend of thinking and get like this little child if you're serious about entering the kingdom of heaven." What is He calling on us to do? Well, how are little children? They are trusting, lowly, loving and forgiving. Those are the four words the Amplified Bible attaches to the phrase "little children". Mat.18:2.

Is Jesus saying adults have a problem? Yes, He is. In reaching adulthood they've suffered knocks and set backs leaving them with much emotional baggage. Often they have become sceptical, distrusting and full of their own ideas and opinions. What's more the condition of their hearts is making it hard for them to love and forgive. In response, Jesus calls on them to let go of that emotional burden and be set free from it. They have to go back to condition they had as very young children.

Do you relate to any of what is said there about adults? If so, go and hand in the emotional baggage you have at Heaven's check in desk. The Attendant (the Holy Spirit) will take it off your hands! As He does so He'll comfort you. He'll reassure you that you're not going to need that heavy, ill-fitting, painful stuff again. In accompanying Jesus you'll have a comfortable, gracious and pleasant partnership in life. Joined to Jesus, free of your hindering baggage, you're going to enter into the kingdom of heaven! Mat.11:28-30.

God's kingdom is yours to enter
