Obituary
Clarence Aaron Barclay, son of Rufus O. and Mary Ann (Bench) Barclay was
born October 1, 1890 at Buffalo and departed this life at Cox Medical
Center in Springfield on September 9, at the age of 85 years, 11 months
and 9 days.
He was married to Leta Scott on February 9, 1930.  They lived on a farm
near London Smoke for several years, moving to Buffalo to where he was
elected to the office of Judge of Probate Court and later Magistrate
Judge.  He served in these offices for 31 years until his health failed
him, retiring in November 1969.
He professed his faith in Christ and joined the Freewill Baptist Church
at Benton Branch where he remained a member until his passing.
He w as preceded in death by his son, James Barclay on June 6, 1973, also
one infant daughter, his father, mother, and four brothers and two
sisters.
He leave s in his passing his devoted wife, Leta; one daughter-in-law,
Kathryn Barclay of Springfield; three step-daughters, Gladys Bonner of
Springfield; Genevieve Vandawalker of Dallas, Texas and Noma Montgomery
of Buffalo; one nephew; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and
a host of other relatives and friends.
Clarence was a lover of nature and enjoyed working in his yard and
garden.  He will be sadly missed by those who loved him most.
Funeral services were held Sunday, September 112 at 2 p.m. in the
Montgomery Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Harold Mayes and Rev. Fred Zahn
officiating.  Music was by Vern on and Jo Ann Viets who sang "Shall We
Gather At The River" and "I Won't Have To Cross Jordan Alone."
Escorts were by Jake Clymore, Murrel Indermuehule, Ralph Jackson, Harold
Powell, Theo G. Scott and W. J. Smithpeter.  Honorary escorts were Mack
Bradley, Walter Bradley, William Nunn, Claude Slack, Lester Slack and
Hubert Wilson.  Interment was in Gardens of Memory Cemetery under the
direction of the Montgomery Funeral Home of Buffalo.
