Hi everyone....

I am looking for additional information on the Abraham Phillips Family. I am descended from George Marion Phillips who married Miriam/Marium/Marion Evans in Dallas County, MO.
He was b. abt 1847 in Tennessee and she was born abt 1841 in Missouri. I believe her parents were John Evans and Miriam Stark. John b. in abt 1808 in NC and Miriam b. in Robertson County, TN in abt 1811. Due to the number of Evans' and Phillilps' who named all of their kids the same thing...It has been difficult in sorting out these families. Most of them, including siblings lived in Jaspertownship, Dallas County, MO....

My great grandmother was Elvira Nancy Phillips who married Lorenzo David Powell . She was daughter of Marium/Miriam/Marion & George Marion Phillips. I know she had at least 2 siblings....John W. Phillips and Levi Phillips.

I have photos of GG grandmother Miriam Phillips with sisters, I believe one of her sisters was Mandy or Amanda Laudermilk..wife of H. Laudermilk.....(thats what the photo says anyway) .....any assistance anyone can provide will be greatly appreciated....

Thanks..

Joanna Powell-Wilson

Hi "Cousin" Joanna!

I believe that we are at least "shirt-tail" relations!  My ggg-grandfather was John Evans, who moved his family to Dallas County around 1840.  The story that I have currently is that they moved there from somewhere around Chattanooga, TN, as we received a copy of a newspaper clipping from that area where he sold all of his "extra" property, including I believe four or five slaves.  It read that he only wanted them sold as a family, which of course was very humane I think, especially back then.  Unfortunately, I do not know a whole lot of information on this side of the family as I had a third cousin, Donnie Irene (Evans) Shewey who lived in Buffalo, passed away just shortly after my dad and I went up to visit her.  She gave me a large copy of handwritten information on that side of the family, including some family pictures that included my great grandfather Samuel W. Evans.

Here is a listing of the order that I know of currently in my direct line:

John S. (?) and Miriam (Stark) Evans
Henry Foster and Lavina "Vinnie" (Null) Evans
Samuel W.  and Sarah "Sally" (?) Evans
Henry Edward "Ed" and Mary Helena "Lena" (Edwards) Evans
                    Gene Eldon  and Louise Evans
                         Me!
                              Emily Renee Evans (my niece)

I had to completely move out of my house a couple of years ago to make needed repairs and I am just beginning to finish up repairs, and then will concentrate on unpacking and re-organizing my gen. library.  I don't have all of my information in hand to give anyone just yet.  But, if any of this sounds like the same line, please feel free to email me directly.  I will be happy to share any information that I do have.

Hi, Joanna.

While I do not descend directly from the Evans or Phillips families, they do cross my Dame, Chastain and Wilson families quite often.  All my families lived in the same area as the Phillips and Evans and some of them were just friends of my grandparents, such as Otto Phillips.  I have some info on both families, although not a great deal.  I will gather what I have and send to your private email address if that is okay.

Joanna, while I'm gathering my Phillips-Evans information for you, I want to mention the photo album, Chastain-Phillips, that I posted.

The second picture is of Grace Phillips and Orestus Chastain.  Grace Ovie Phillips was the daughter of your Nancy Elvira's brother, John William Phillips and his wife Margaret Bennett.  Orestus "Bullet" Chastain was my grandfather Dame's cousin.  Grace is buried beside their infant son in the Lone Rock Cemetery about a mile southwest of Windyville.

Otto Phillips was the grandson of Silas Phillips and Lucinda Hildebrand, Silas being the brother of your George Marion Phillips.  Otto married Zela Franklin, who was the gr-granddaughter of Elisha Herman Phillips, Elisha Herman also being the brother of your George Marion Phillips.  Zela Franklin was my grandfather Dame's cousin.  Her grandparents were William Abraham Phillips and Josephine Dame.

I have in my records that your George Marion Phillips married Christina Marian Evans.  I have her parents as Mark B. and Catherine "Kit" Evans.  I have photo album, Evans, which contains pictures of Mark B. and Kit Evans.

Lois

Hello Laresa,

I thought my line came from John S. but now it looks as though it didn't.....It seems my gggrandmother was Christina Mariam Evans also known as Aunt Dat., daughter of Mark B. Evans and Catherine Russell. In some census records it states that Mark was born in Missouri and in some it states he was born in Arkansas.....I would love to find out who his parents were and who Catherine's parents were... anyone out there have any ideas?

Joanna
