Hi Deb,

First don't feel guilty, life goes on and it is not entirely genealogy.  I have grands and when they are here you can believe that everything else is forgotten.  The oldest grandson lives so far away now that getting him is such a treat.  I sure miss him, but even for the ones that are living around here, they get the same, grandmas total attention.  I know that soon they will be too big to need grandma, so the future memories for them and me are being born in the current.  My oldest grandson has a sister who right away after meeting me decide that I was to be her grandma too, even over the objections of her brother that I was not her grandma, lol.  I told him it was ok if she wanted me to be grandma.  Then she said the sweetest thing.  She looked right at me and said, "Yep, you're the right kind of grandma".  Now how can you turn down and invatition like that.  She was four years old.  Now that's the kind of memories I love giving time too.  So don't you worry one bit about delaying what can be done later.  All that stuff is going no where and will still be somewhere for the search tomorrow if it has to be put off today.

So on to the military records.

Besides my father, the only family member that I actually know was in the military was a 4 times great grandfather.  The reason I know this is my cousin told me that through her research she joined DAR under this grandfather.  His name was Avery Mustain.  I have had it varified that he is listed under DAR, but I am not a joiner as I do not have the time in lifes daily routines to do such.  I work full time, babysit part time now (use to be full time till a couple of weeks ago) for two grandsons, 3 1/2 and 4 months, and am an active member of umpteen tatting and crochet groups.  I have a sick mother who just came out of the nursing home and I am dealing with all her medical, bills, etc.  Plus I do need that little crafting time to relax with.  LOL Now I am also back to doing the family search.  So joining something else is out of the question.  I know I can probably get information through them but I would rather find it on my own through research and do not want to depend on someone elses work.

Names for Missouri.  Not all are from Dallas county.
William Harvey Mustain suppose to be born in Tunas, Dallas, but through my research it seems to be in Buffalo not Tunas.
Lorenzo Dow Mustain born in New Braunfels, Comal, Texas, 1 Oct 1863
died in Tunas, Dallas, Missouri, 10 Jul 1941 (this is from internet sources)
the following is also from interent sources and so I do not know how reliable it is:
Mary Ann Lawson/Mustain born in Salem, Marion, Illinois 23 Sep 1861
died in Bartlesville, Washington, Oklahoma 1992
buried in Tunis, Dallas, Missouri in Hopewell Cemetery

Larry Ones Davenport, born in Jane, McDonald, Missouri, 19 Mar 1905
For Larry I have a delayed Certificate of Birth and a Death Certificate copies
Thomas Meridith Davenport born in Jane, McDonald, Missouri, 10 Nov, 1872
For Thomas I have a death certificate copy
Mary Esther Zenobia Bullard/Davenport born in Jane, McDonald, Missouri 30 Jul 1885
for Mary I have a death certificate copy

Mary Esther Zenobia Bullard and Thomas Meridith are the parents listed on Larry Ones Davenports birth certificate.

William Henry Bullard born in Pineville, McDonald, Missouri, 14 Dec, 1842
I have a death certificate copy for Henry.  On Henry's death certificate it lists as his father Jobac/Jaboc Bullard, born in Tenn, mother Gambol, no given

Pauline Retha Davenport/Ronnie born in Pineville, McDonald, Missouri, 8 Feb 1912
I have a death certificate copy for Pauline, lists parents as Tom Davenport and Mary Bullard.
Pauline is the sister of Larry Ones Davenport.

Now when I say "copy/copies" these are documents given to me by my mother.  Her family started researching a long time ago and as they got documents they made copies for everyones files.  I am not sure who has the orginials.  Not that it matters, these have given me names, dates, and places to start from.

So how do you go about getting military records.  I know I have been told that I cannot get my fathers as long as my mother is still living.

I too had thought about going to private email, but decided that maybe something said somewhere/sometime may connect with another current member or someone just joining.

<<Mary,

Your making me feel guilty as i ahve not done much on my genealogy lately at all. I have been too busy playing in the SCA our medieval group. We are the Vikings you know..lol. Hey at least its my real blood line.
Anyway..I was thinking when I saw the word draft card if you have any family who were in the military try too get their records or pension. I received my husband's 5th gg paternal grandfathers 101 page civil war pension..wowww was that neat. First of all I got a lot of dates and names out of that including hubbys 5gg paternal grandmother's maiden name, and where she was born and a bunch of other stuff. I was well worth the money, and time too go through it. If you want help with that let me know. I also found him on the internet in military files.
I just got the Dallas County , Missouri History Book not too long ago neat neat book. If you want too give me a couple names for you I might be able too find someone in there.
I was going too just start emailing you privately, and then I started thinking that just maybe one of us might say something that might be of interest, or help for someone else on the list.

Keep having fun piecing your family together sounds like your doing a great job. :0)

    Have a Great Genealogy Day

Hi,

I just had some information given to me that adds to posible family in Dallas County.

I was told that my great-great grandfather John Avery Mustain died in Cherry Grove, Dallas, Missouri 8 feb, 1920 and is buried Feb 1920 in Kirk Chapel Cemetery, Dallas, Missouri.

It has also been indictated that Mary Jane Starr, wife of John Avery, also died in Dallas County Missouri.

Does anyone know if there is an online site for Kirk Chapel Cemetery?  I have been doing searches but have not found one yet, though I will continue to look.

Thanks
Mary

Oh yes, John Avery Mustain is the father of Lorenzo Dow Mustain and Mary Jane Starr was his mother.

In Dallas Co Mo Cemeteries, Volume 1, 1834-1991, Kirk Chapel is included.
Mary J. Starr Mustain is buried next to J.A. Mustain.  Dates in book for her are born 25 June 1832, died 25 July 1905, in book also says wife of J.A./ dau. Adam and Hannah Starr.
