gypsypohl,

Welcome to the Dallas Co. board! Most of my ancestors are from the Dallas
and Laclede Co. area, some from the Long Lane area. Some of the names are
Agee, Richardson, Evans, Wilson, Fowler and Pulse. I do have a Martin
relative back several generations. I go back 6 generations through Agee's
to William and Sophia Agee. Sophia's maiden name was Atchley. Her father
was Martin Atchley. Martin's mother's name was Mary Martin, born around
1719. She was from New Brunswick, New Jersey. I'm curious if there is a
connection between Moses Martin and Mary Martin. I don't have any
information on her family.

I'm envious of all your old letters... what a treasure! Hope you find some
connections through the board. Good luck with your searchings.

Dana

Gypsy,

Hi, welcome to the group.  My name is PGP.  My Dallas County connection is Melvin Hoppins.  He was born Jan. 16, 1861 in Buffalo, Dallas, MO.  His father is unknown.  His mother was Nancy Johnson.  He had a sister named Matilda.  His obituary states that he moved to Carroll County, AR as a young boy(THAT is subject to interpretation! Exactly what is a young boy?).  He really spent most of his life, and got married, and died and was buried, etc., in Carroll County AR, but he was BORN in Buffalo, Dallas, MO.  So far, no one in here has come across him.  I may be able to, but haven't attempted  yet, obtain his death certificate.  PERHAPS that may have the name of his, so far, unknown father.  Other than that, I know of no other obtainable documentation that would allow me to get that info.  There has been one reference to a Vance Hoppins, but I have not seen any other evidence of a Vance Hoppins at all.  First census I have Melvin on is 1880.  I also have him in 1920 and 1930.  I'm not sure about 1900 and 1910.  His father has been listed as being from New York or Canada.

<HTML>Hi Gypsypohl
I was wondering in your letters have you seen last names of Wisdom, Alfords, Lefflers, or Spears.  In my family tree I would have to look really close but some where there is Babbs in my family.   Someone down the line married there.  There is a lot of other names but gosh....  :0)  My grandmother and aunt who live in Missouri have been doing foot work for me as I find information for them.   I live in Nevada.   Oh how I would love to go to Dallas County.
You know something that would be great for you to do with all your letters maybe put them together for a book.   I am going to forward this email to my grandma because her sister was married to a Sturdivant who died in 2002 and lived in California.

Shawnee,

I've been monitoring the conversation to which you responded. I notice that you listed Alfords (with an s) as a family name you are researching. Are you looking for anyone with the name Alford (with no s)? If so, contact me, and I may be able to help. I've done lots of research on the Alford family.
