James Asbury Slack

James Asbury Slack, son of the late J.D. and Livona Hill Slack, was born near Long Lane, Missouri, on November 9, 1879 and passed away with a hear attack at 2:20 p.m., February 12, 1964 at the home of his son, Paul Slack.  He was at the time of his passing, 84 years, 3 months, and 3 days old.
He was united in marriage to Elzie Franklin on November 11, 1900 and to this union were born 2 sons: Lester Slack, Red Top, Missouri and Paul Slack, Buffalo, Missouri.  his wife preceded him in death in November 1905.
He was married to Cora Holland Anderson on Mrch 19, 1916.  She preceded him in death on January 15, 1919.
He leaves in his passing his 2 sons, Lester, Red Top, Missouri and Paul, Buffalo, Missouri: 1 step-son, Oral Anderson, Buffalo, Missouri; 3 brothers, John Slack, Emporia, Kansas, Lewis Slack, Buffalo, Missouri, and Everett Slack, Wichita, Kansas; 2 sisters, Mrs. Belle Shattuck, Pittsburg, Kansas, and Mrs. Myrtle Flinn, Prineville, Oregon; 1 granddaughter; 1 grandson; 9 great grandchildren and 4 great great granchildren, also a number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends to mourn his passing.
He was preceded in death by 4 brothers, 2 sisters and 1 grandson.
He professed his hope in Christ many years ago and attended church as long as his health would permit.  He has been practically blind for many years.  For the past 3 years he has been confined to his wheel chair and bed, not able to walk around.  He was as long as he could, always ready to help a friend and neighbor who needed help and was always happy for his friends to drop in and visit with him.
