Robert H. Williams

Robert H. Williams, youngest child of Green and Elizabeth Hamilton Williams, was born Feb. 3, 1874, in Dallas County, Missouri.  His mother died at his birth and his father died two years later.  Though orphaned and raised in the homes of various relatives he developed into one of the most loveably and cheerful personalities this community has ever known.
At an early age he was converted and joined the Mt. Pleasant Baptist of which his father was a charter member.  During his years of employment in Springfield he was an active member of the Grant Avenue Baptist Church.
He suffered a spinal injury while in Springfield and employed by the railroad.  Ever after this injury he walked with a cane and was unable to do much physical labor.  At this time he moved to his farm house near the "spring house" six miles south of Buffalo, where "Uncle Bob and Aunt Maude" were known for their devotion to each other, their practicing Christian faith, gracious hospitality, and tremendous love for children.
November, 1950, they moved to their home on West Mill street in Buffalo, moved their church membership to the First Baptist Church, and quickly endeared themselves in the hearts and lives of this community.  It has been said by those who visited to comfort Uncle Bob that he was one who did the "cheering up".
Uncle Bob became quite ill about two months ago and gradually his life ebbed away.  During this period of suffering his patience and his thoughtfulness for those caring for him were inspirational.
He passed away at about 11:39 p.m., Jan. 27 at Springfield Baptist Hospital.  His survivors include his wife, Maude, son, Homer of Buffalo, granddaughter, Mrs. Raymond Sechler and great-granddaughter, Jennifer of Springfield.  Also many nephew, nieces, cousins, and friends, who loved him deeply and will miss his cheerful interest in their lives.
