 Witch's Tree - Urban Legend
In Campbell County, Kentucky, technically Cold Springs, ages ago, (I've not delved far enough into this tale for those answers), there were three sisters who were committed as witches. The townsfolk took the women to a large tree with three main branches in the forest. As the women hung from the tree, they cursed it to never fall. Their curse was futile, though, for the tree was cut down a little before Halloween of 2003, but I have a video account. The Campbell County Road Department went to build the road, of course, and to my understanding, these events unfolded: The first man attempted to hack it down, but a storm drove him away. The next day, on his way to the tree, he wrecked his car and couldn't proceed. The second man came forth with a dozer, the plow lifted to push the tree over. As he neared, the dozer suddenly died. He walked around to check the engine and the plow fell on him and crushed him. And finally, the last person to attempt this feat came with a chainsaw. As he went to cut into the tree, the chain snapped and whipped back, killing him instantly. The road department then decided to build the road around the tree, which I can account for with pictures on inquiry. The tree stood for ages due to a family who lived close to the tree who would ward off stupid high school students like me with a shotgun. Of course, to prove my ignorance, I urinated on the tree. A friend of mine did the same on a different occasion, and we both received the same answer. Dogs began to bark in the distance. The tree's top had been severed ages ago for a powerline to go in above it, yet the tree still stood. I was told that someone hooked up to the Witch's Tree with a 3/4 ton dually pickup truck and could only spin the tires, that the tree wouldn't move. Finally, due to people crowding the backroad, drinking, and other illegal acts, the tree was ordered to be cut down. Though I don't believe it, and neither should you, I was told it took 17 chainsaws to cut the tree down. Highly unlikely, but we may never know.
