Current Moon Phase - Waning, Disseminating
Waning Moon Magick: From three-and-a-half to ten-and-a-half days after the full
moon. From the Full Moon to the New is a time for study, meditation, and magic
designed to banish harmful energies and habits, for ridding oneself of
addictions, illness or negativity.
Keywords for the Disseminating phase are: demonstration, distribution, sharing
and introspection. It is the time in a cycle to further process your advancement
toward your goal by looking at the results of your adjusting action taken at the
Full phase. During this phase you gain clarity by sharing what you've learned
through awareness. Demonstrate your power of abundance by giving back to your
community. Visit friends. Distribute your knowledge. SHARE. Reach out and touch
someone.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Star IQ - Thursday, August 25
The Moon is still in sensible Taurus today, but the heat of its conjunction to
Mars is past, so the energies will cool off a bit. New and deeper waves of
desire surface now as Venus quintiles Pluto, a magical connection between sweet
love and intense passion. This can erupt with a flurry of sexual delight or a
difficult situation in relationship where one person feels as if the other is
exerting too much emotional control. In addition, Mercury the communicator adds
his fired-up two cents as he squares feisty Mars.
Aries Cancer Libra Capricorn
Taurus Leo Scorpio Aquarius
Gemini Virgo Sagittarius Pisces

Seasons of the Witch - Ancient Holidays
And some not so ancient too!
Rome: Opiconsivia, the feast day honoring Ops Consivia, the Earth Goddess,
considered to be the wife of Saturn.
Ops was Lady of the Cornucopia, Bounty of the Harvest, and Sustainer of Life. In
her honor, the Vestal Virgins
opened a special room filled with sacred objects to performed their rites to
ensure the fertility of the earth.
Voudun: Table Communion pour Dan Wezo, Roi de France
Heathen: The end of Odin's Ordeal (August 17-25). Odin, the Nordic and Germanic
all-father, was one of the three
original Aesir gods who created the world, and most important of all the Norse
Gods. In his quest for knowledge,
he hung himself upside down from Yggdrasil, the world tree, for nine days. In
commoration of the final day is the
Festival of the Discovery of the Runes, when Odin fell "screaming" from the tree
on which he had been bound,
having gained the knowledge he sought.
Uppsala, Sweden, once observed this festival by sacrificing men and animals and
hanging them in trees; devotees
were burnt on pyres. Odin's ordeal of hanging on the tree until his
enlightenment bears apparent relation to the stories
of both the Buddha and Jesus.

Circle of Friends
Don't let loneliness hurt your health; reconnect with a family member or old
friend. Studies show
that loneliness can have deleterious effects on your health. Surrounding
yourself with friends and family,
on the other hand, can give your heart and health a boost. Make it a point to
see three or more of your closest
friends and family members at least once each month.

An Evening Prayer
As Our Lord takes his rest,
Blessed mother leave your nest.
Your silver beams soon shining bright
Will light my way through darkest night.
On the moonbeams, to me ride
Feeling your presence at my side
Protect me now and keep me well
Soon your mysteries you will tell.
So as the Lady's trip does end
Hail again dear Father-friend.

Today's Goddess: Ops
Opiconsivia (Rome)
Themes: Opportunity; Wealth; Fertility; Growth
Symbols: Bread; Seeds; Soil
About Ops: This Roman Goddess of fertile earth provides us with numerous
"op-portunities" to make every day more productive. In stories, Ops motivates
fruit bearing, not just in plants but also in spirits. She also controls the
wealth of the gods, making her a goddess of opulence! Works of art depict Ops
with a loaf of bread in one hand, and the other outstretched, offering aid.
To Do Today: On this day, Ops was evoked by sitting on the earth itself, where
she lives in body and spirit. So, weather permitting, take yourself on a picnic
lunch today. Sit with Ops and enjoy any sesame or poppy breadstuff (bagel,
roll, etc.)--both types of seeds are magically aligned with Ops's money-bringing
power. If possible, keep a few of the seeds from the bread in your pocket or
shoe so that after lunch, Ops's opportunities for financial improvements or
personal growth can be with you no matter where you go. And don't forget to
leave a few crumbs for the birds so they can take your magical wishes to the
four corners of creation!
If the weather doesn't cooperate, invoke Ops by getting as close to the earth as
you can (sit on your floor, go into the cellar). Alternatively, eat earthy
foods like potatoes, root crops, or any fruit that comes from Ops's abundant
storehouse.

Fear of Success Spell
Incense of the day: Cedar
Is the fear of success holding you back either consciously or subconsciously?
Call in the powers of earth and water to help you fight the fear. You will need
paper, dirt, water, a wooden skewer, and an empty cardboard salt container. On
the paper write or draw a representation of your fear. Now impale it on the
skewer and place it in the cardboard container. Fill the container with dirt and
soak it generously with water. Now go and bury the container. As the cardboard
and paper break down, returning to the earth, you will win your fight against
being successful.

Daily Aromatherapy Tip
It's easy to scent a room.No special diffusers required. Use any heat proof
bowls, add hot water.
Put 3-10 drops of essential oils on the water, place the bowls in the corners of
the room.
Hot water releases the aroma molecules and sends them into the air.

Crone's Corner - Joe-Pye Spell to Stop Gossip
On certain lazy August afternoons swallowtail butterflies drift among the
Joe-Pye weed flowerheads in my garden. Wise herbalists once included the leaves
of Joe-Pye in spells calling for protection against slanderous gossip. To do
this, say these words:
If you have committed no bad deed,
remove three leaves from Joe-Pye weed.
If what is said about you is untrue,
also collect a sprig of rue.
To further replace lies with fact,
obtain three sunflower seeds, shiny and black.
Stuff these charms into a worn sock, and say:
Gossip and lies, I hereby block.
Tie the sock into a knot. When the Moon begins to wane, bury it and let it rot.

I asked, "How is it, Goddess,
that fierce lions yield their necks to you,
letting you place a yoke upon their manes?"
She answered, "I can tame anything."
I asked, "Why do you wear a crown?"
Is it because the crown has towers,
and you gave towers to the first cities?"
She answered, simply, queenly, "Yes."
~Ovid, Fasti
Another Roman harvest feast is upon us today: the Opiconsivia, a festival
dedicated to the Goddess Ops. Her name is still with us, in the word "opulent,"
for she is the Goddess of abundance. In the Roman calendar, other goddesses are
in charge of encouraging growth of the seed, of protecting the new plants, of
fostering the setting of fruit. It falls to Ops simply to give us the finished
product.
Abundance is a word frequently employed today, used to mean everything from
frugality to waste. Our foremothers saw it more simply: abundance meant having
enough. It was unnecessary to have a harvest that would last seven years; it was
only necessary to have enough to get through the winter. So opulence originally
meant simply having enough, being satisfied - of having the security of relaxing
in confidence of not being hungry very soon. How much happier our lives would be
if we could see, with those ancient mothers, that suffiency is the same as
abundance.
