Star IQ - Tuesday, August 16
The Moon is in stabilizing Capricorn today, giving us a firm place on which to
stand. Mercury has turned direct, so our thoughts gain momentum in the days
ahead. It feels like everything is changing, especially as Venus enters Libra,
one of her home signs, where she happily remains until September 11th. This
light and easy placement positively impacts our lives as we become more
attracted to finding balance between work and play, harmony in our relationships
and pleasure in a variety of indulgences.
Aries Cancer Libra Capricorn
Taurus Leo Scorpio Aquarius
Gemini Virgo Sagittarius Pisces

GrannyMoon Says Today Is: Tiu's Day - the day of Mars...also Ares, Tiwaz, Tiw
(from whom it is named), Tuisco, and Tyr. Tuesday is ruled by Mars, whose
Magickal influences are: Passion, courage, aggression, and protection. Tuesday
comes under the influence of Mars, the planet associated with vitality, passion,
ambition, and raw, unabashed power. Mars energy makes the mind acute, and the
body restless; therefore, on Tuesday we are likely to exert ourselves physically
and take action to achieve goals. This day is dynamic and high-spirited, and the
prevailing energies may include carelessness and destructiveness as well, so it
is good to be cautious---especially while traveling. Tuesday is the proper day
of the week to perform rituals involving courage, physical strength, revenge,
surgery, and the breaking of negative spells.

Today's Goddess:. Anahita
Khordad Sal (Persia)
Themes: Honor; Love; Fertility; Pleasure; Cleansing
Symbols: Water; Lunar Objects and Colors; Green Branches
About Anahita: Anahita is the Zoroastrian Moon Goddess who shines upon the
darkness in our lives,
replacing loneliness with true love. bareness with fertility, and impotence with
pleasurable unions.
She is the Lady of Heaven, the flowing force of the cosmos, whose name means
"pure". A traditional
offering for Anahita is green branches, which represent her life-giving power.
To Do Today: Today marks the birthday of Zoroaster, the founder of a religious
sect that influenced the
Maji of the Bible. Amidst Zoroaster's pantheon we find this goddess, radiating
with the beautiful things in
life, but only after a good "house cleaning." Honor her by washing your floors
with pine-scented cleaner
(i.e., green branches) so her energies can purify the sacred space of home.
Afterward, light a white candle
to represent Anahita's presence therein. Add a simple invocation like this one:
"Lady of Purity, Lady of Light, be welcome in my home and my heart."
Purify yourself, too, so that Anahita's passion can flow unhindered. Take a
ritual bath, adding any
woodsy aromatic to the water. As you wash up say,
"Anahita, carry the darkness away, so my body and spirit may revel in your
pleasures,
giving and receiving them equally."
Then spend time with your loved one, letting nature take its course.

Heartwings Love Notes 171 Waiting Patiently
Heartwings says, "Waiting is never easy, especially when you can't do anything
to make the time pass faster."
Waiting patiently is an oxymoron. It is also one of the most difficult aspects
of selling my house. I feel sure that sooner or later it will be sold.
Unfortunately, I have absolutely no idea when that will be. What that means is
that I need to keep it very neat and tidy so that at any moment prospective
buyers can come in and see it the way it is supposed to look in order to help
them decide they want to make it their home.
Waiting has never been easy for me. When I was growing up, my parents had three
main forms of punishment: spankings, fines and my least favorite--having to sit
without doing anything to do for a stated length of time--from fifteen minutes
to a whole hour. The waiting involved was torturous. I still remember individual
experiences of sitting, sometimes even having been put "on silence" which meant
I was ignored for the duration of the punishment.
By today's standards I would doubtless be classified as a hyperactive child. I
was always being told to act like a lady, which usually meant going more slowly
than I wanted. This was not easy. Once I grew up and learned the value of
patience, I began to slow down a bit and even to become in many respects quite
patient. However, as I am finding out from the process of selling the house, I
still have a ways to go.
I use a variety of coping mechanisms: I visualize a sold sign outside the house.
I send up a prayer that the perfect people will soon fall in love with the house
and feel they absolutely must live there. My normal method, focus on the present
moment isn't working as well as usual because I also must focus on the constant
cleaning and tidying that keeps the house picture perfect for potential
buyers--none of whom exist in this present moment. One day I will look back on
this experience and be happy for the practice in patience it is giving me. I can
hardly wait.
While you are waiting may you find ways to keep yourself joyously occupied.
Blessings and Best Regards, Tasha Halpert

Hearth Protection Spell
Incense of the day: Chrysanthemum
The ancient Romans held their goddess of the hearth, Vesta, in such high esteem
that in addition to Vestalia (on June 9), they also honored her with a second
festival on this day. Modern Wiccans celebrate this festival by lighting six red
candles and throwing herbs in the candle flames. It's also a time to bless and
protect the home. Light a stick of raspberry incense. Raspberry is known for its
protective qualities, in particular of the home. Walking through your home, use
the incense stick to trace an invoking pentagram for protection on each window
and external door. Visualize a pentagram of light at each entrance to your
haven, continuously protecting you and your house as you say:
With the smoke of incense
I invoke protection for this place
From unwanted energies
Entering my sacred space.

Oatmeal Bath Bags
Author unknown to us. Make little drawstring bags from calico, cotton,
muslin or scraps of natural fiber fabric. The bags should be about the size
of a bar of soap - or you can just cheat, cut 10 cm squares of fabric with
pinking shears, spoon the scented oatmeal in the middle and tie in a tight
bundle. Place some oatmeal in a glass jar and add a few drops of an
essential oil of your choice. Just a few drops - enough to scent the oatmeal
but not make it wet. Seal the jar and leave for a day or so, shaking several
times, to let the scent mature and permeate all the oatmeal. Then fill the
bags and pull drawstrings, and tie tightly. Don't put too much oatmeal in,
or the bags will be too wet to dry out and will go moldy so they can't be
re- used. One bag should be added to the bath as it fills and squeezed
thoroughly to release the scented oat milk - they may last for a couple of
uses, and can be refilled. Bags should be hung to dry thoroughly between
uses. The oatmeal is soothing and softening. A selection of these bags made
from different scrap fabrics and presented in a basket would be a lovely
idea. Some essential oils to use would be lavender, lemon,
orange, grapefruit, sandalwood, rose geranium, neroli or ylang ylang.
Stretch Mark Massage Oil
1 oz cocoa butter, melted
1/2 oz flaxseed oil
1/4 oz rose hip seed oil
1/4 oz wheat germ oil
10 drops lavender oil
8 drops neroli oil
4 drops vetiver oil
Blend the melted cocoa butter, flaxseed oil rose hip seed oil and wheat germ
oil. Transfer the mixture to a clean jar. As it begins to cool ad solidify,
add the essential oils. Allow the mixture to cool to a comfortable
temperature before using it. Massage the oil into your skin once or twice daily.

This is the day when torches
glitter on the lake's water.
Diana crowns herself and
her hunting dogs with flowers,
puts away her arrows,
leaving animals untouched
and throughout the land
people celebrate the Goddess
at their hearthsides.
~Roman Poet Statius, Silvae
Another one of the great ancient feasts of this season was celebrated by the
Romans on this day. Called the Nemoralia, it was a festival of the wildwood
Goddess Diana (Artemis to the Greeks). Women bearing torches roved through the
forests, emulating the Goddess hunting with her hounds. But the Goddess herself
was imagined to be resting on this day, the animals she might have hunted left
to run free for a time.
This midsummer feast of the divine feminine remains in the calendar, now
dedicated to the Virgin Mary. On this day, the Catholic Church commemorates
Mary's assumption into heaven, for she is believed to have been taken up, body
and soul,
from this earth. Perhaps it is the great abundance of our mother, nature, at
this time of year that has drawn so many important
Goddess feasts to this day.
