Imbolic, a Sabbat of Lights
------------------

Imbolic celebrated on February 2

Imbolic, pronounced Em-bowl/g also called Imbolg, Oimelc,
Candlemas, Earrach, and Groundhogs day. Traditionally a day
of honor for the Celtic Goddess Mother Brigid (pronounced BREED).

Brigid's rule:

Brigid Goddess of Poetry, Creativity, Inspiration, Prophecy,
Healing, Midwifery,Smith-craft, Arts & Crafts, and Keeper
of the Hearth or Fire-keeper.

Imbolic is the quickening of the year. Winter buds appear on bare
trees as the green life stirs under frozen earth. the infant sun
(the god) grows in size and strength. Imbolic is the fire festival
of lights and traditionally Witches light white or blue candles to
illuminate the winter darkness and celebrate the stirrings of Mother
Earth. Imbolic literally means "in the belly." In the womb of the
Goddess Mother there are the beginnings of new life, waiting to
explode into our view!

This is a good time for weather divination and time to think about
Spring cleaning. Of course, this is also where the idea for
"Groundhog Day" comes from...if a shadow is seen, we will know
that winter will last another six weeks.

Braided Brigid Bread
------------------
Ingredients:

2 Tblsp. yeast
1/2 cup warm water
pinch of sugar
1 cup milk
1 egg
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup vegatable oil
1 Tsp. salt
1 clove garlic, passed throuh garlic press
1/Tblsp. tomato paste
water
5-6 cups unbleached flour
1 egg yolk, beaten

Dissolve the yeast in warm water sprinkled with the pinch of sugar.
Combine the milk, egg, sugar, oil, salt, garlic, and herbs in a large
bowl.
In a measuring cup, place the tomato paste and add water until it
reaches
the 1/2 cup point. Pour into the milk mixture and stir well.
Add the yeast mixture. Begin adding flour, 1 cup at a time, until the
dough
can no longer be stirred.

Turn out onto a floured board and knead, continuing to add flour the
keep
the dough barely dry. This is a loose and soft dough, so be careful
how much
flour you add. Don't let it get stiff! Place the dough in an oiled
bowl
and turn it over to coat both sides. Let it rise until doubled,
about 45 minutes to an hour.

Then, punch it down. cut the dough in half, divide each half into
thirds,
then roll into thick coils. Braid three coils into a loaf and pinch
the ends
together. Set on a lightly oiled baking sheet. Repeat with the other
three
coils. When the loaves have doubled in size, paint all surfaces with
the
egg yolk and bake for 35 minutes in a preheated 375 degrees oven, or
until
the internal temperature of bread measures 200 degrees.

Sunday Herbal Meditation
------------------
Combine bay leaves, cinnamon, cedar, and sagebrush, and meditate with
them,

asking for their blessings and giving thanks for their energies.
Light one green and

one yellow candle, then hold your hands out over the herbs. Visualize
your home

and land filled with the healing energy of the Sun. See this merge
with Earth

energy, creating a bubble that surrounds your home and family. Send
this

visualization into the herbs through your hands, and say:

"Sacred herbs of Earth and Sun,
Bring health and light to every one.
Bless our travels and our hearth,
Honored plants of Sun and Earth."

Bury the mixture at the entrance to your land or
at your front and back doors of your home.

Rosemary Bubble Bath
------------------
1 1/2 cups water
3 tablespoons fresh rosemary herb
1 1/2 cups baby shampoo

Bring water to a boil on top of stove.
Place rosemary in glass bowl or jar.
When water is boiling, remove from stove and pour over herb.
Let steep for about 15 mixtures (like a tea).
Strain Water into another bowl.
Add baby shampoo.
Mix well and pout into old shampoo bottle or other
plastic container.
Shake well before using.

Use approx 1/4 cup per bath.
Yield: approx. 3 cups

Spell to Stop Arguments
------------------

To stop a pointless argument, take a picture of the one
you are fighting with and place a clear piece of tape over
his or her mouth. Draw a heart upon it. Kiss it,
and place it where you can see it as you clearly say:

"You may best me with your words,
But you are bested by my kiss.
No more will I hear angry words;
From these lips, love will persist!"

Blow a kiss to it now and then as you walk by.
Then place it in your dresser or another quiet place,
and reinstate the spell when needed.
This also works on yourself.

don't throw away the cork.

Cut a slit in the top and insert a coin.
If you place it in your kitchen cupboard,
it will bring luck to the entire household.
The luck will last until the next bottle of
champagne is opened.

However, if you insert a coin minted in the year
of your birth, carry the charm with you at all times.
The luck will last the rest of your life.
