My understanding is that Blue Chalcedony is a generic term for the agate, bloodstone, chrysoprase, carnelian, jasper and they are close to the quartz family. I have seen blue chalcedony in tumbled form and I took it to mean blue agate. However, there is a danger that the blue stone might be an agate infused artificially with blue colour. The closest relative is the blue lace agate - good for nourishing the throat chakra and help relieve thyroid and para-thyroid problems. Blue is the colour for communication and I suppose wearing the stone close to the neck not only give you the soothing blue vibration which is itself healing in nature but also help relieve throat related problems and improve your communication ability.
