Today's Meditation:
You can make the world a brighter and richer place. Yes, you. I can, too.
The question is simple: Do we?
Do we encourage others to be the best they can be without qualifying our encouragement based on our expectations? Do we give sincere compliments to others, even for simple, seemingly insignificant things? Do we do our best at our jobs so that we'll be good role models to others? Do we actually use our creative talents and take care of our bodies and spirits?
The world can be a richer place if more people were to contribute in positive ways, not negative; constructive ways and not destructive; ways that add positively rather than take selfishly.
It's very easy to do our jobs and get our paychecks and feel that we're doing enough. Then we spend our money and expect others to serve us because we have money to spend. This lifestyle, though, diminishes us as the spirits that we are; it diminishes our eternal souls who are simply in this body for a limited amount of time in order to contribute to the world, not to take from it.
Don't make yourself poorer than you must be. Enrich yourself by spreading encouragement and love and compassion and compliments and anything else that you can think of that can make this world a brighter place.
Questions to consider:
In what ways do you enrich your own life and spirit?
What opportunities for enrichment do you have in your life today?
Why do so many people neglect their opportunities for enrichment?
For further thought:
We are here to add what we can to life,
not to get what we can from it.
William Osler
Today's quotation:
You are not here merely to make a living. You are here
to enable the world to live more amply, with greater
vision, and with a finer spirit of hope and achievement.
You are here to enrich the world.
You impoverish yourself if you forget this errand.
