I got the call tonight. I am fully approved for the surgery. And since I have medicare I don't have to wait for insurance approvals, and will be scheduled monday or tuesday. I have a meeting September 8th, for 2 hours, which may lead to my pre op exam, and blood work... and within 2 weeks would be my surgery. I'm so excited.

I'm all ready. Initially I was set to be there at 6 am, and out by 8 am (sleeping) and now they've put another person in front of me, as she's a brittle diabetic. (I know the lady). Now I'll be there at 10, in the OR at 11:30, and should be done by about 2. Hopefully up to standing up by 3:30, and home at around 8 pm.
Please pray this is how it goes.

Congrats Teri, You are lucky you are getting in so soon. My informational meeting is Wednesday night, but they figure I won't be scheduled until January. The final straw foe me was the various articles about studies being done how this surgery seems to cure the diabetes and does it long before the weight loss. In 10 or 15 years they will have the hormones figured out or whatever this and why it happens, but my time is now and I decided to choose life. Links: My genetics are against me when it comes to weight loss. It is not an easy way out, it is a change --- a total change in life-style. Don |

Considering I had the band placed yesterday, I feel pretty good. I'm sore just about where the gallbladder was. I had it taken out in 2000, so it's not the issue. I called Bob, and he's watching that. And a little mad they didn't have the diabetic dr that works the wards come down to see me. He wanted me on either metformin or insulin PRN. I'm on neither.
My fasting sugar this morning was 119. I'm an hour and half after "eating" breakfast (carnation instant breakfast SF with fat free milk and powdered milk). I'm drinking my water. For lunch I'm having chicken broth I think. Dinner not sure yet. Maybe I'll make a can of soup, and do the broth again. I can't have the lumps. Truthfully nothing looks good right now. Nothing smells good. And so far nothing tastes good.
Well I'm gonna get up and moving. When I'm able to sit here more, I'll upload photos of my tummy. Not a pretty site before, and even worse now. |

Makes perfect sense to me Hun that you aren't finding food appealing at all yet... you had surgery done and nobody likes to eat after that... Very sorry to hear that you didn't see the diabetes doc before you left for him/her to check you out on your numbers, and meds... I hope when you feel better today you might place a call. Take good care and your numbers aren't bad at all considering hun! Good that you are keeping an eye on them. Hugs, Cuddles |

Isn't it just a pain in the butt to know you have to eat but nothing tastes or sounds good? It's hard to believe that one can't eat... but I hope that your days become easier to deal with soon, Teri and please take it easy with those beautiful boys of yours. Peace,Cheryl |

Sweetie The worst of this is today and a little longer but after that all will improve. I am wishing you all the best with this. It is a brave decision and it will be fine! My son's best friend, who is now 35 is having this surgery (as we speak). Eric was a swimmer in high school and that was how my son and he met. How can I put this without drooling over a man who is 25 years younger than I am... He was hunk. Well time moves on. he went to school in New Orleans, the capital of great food and drink and fast forward 15 years, that was just the beginning of weight gain for him. This kid came through his teens and adulthood in my house more than his own so we still talk. Over the weekend he was here and I was amazed at his determination. Every other weight loss program has failed for him but this will succeed. I can tell by his attitude. Success is what I wish and pray for ,,, for you! |

Cheryl I'm doing great. I'm down 13 pounds since surgery, and 7 inches between my stomach area and hips. I'm starting real food this week, you know not puree'd. I'm a bit nervous I might get stuck. But hey... I gotta move on to the real stuff sooner than later.
I will post pictures sometime soon.

wooo hoooo, Teri.... I am so glad to hear how well you are doing. Awww..don't worry about whole foods getting stuck...believe me, the stomach has some pretty strong and amazing acids to dissolve what we eat no matter what the size of your stomach is. It'll take care of what you eat with no problem, I'm sure. Way to go, hon...I'm so happy for you. See ya. Peace,Cheryl |
