Your meter just says HI? Do you give it time to get it down, or do you go straight to the ER?

Mine just read "HI" and I took 7 units of insulin, and im just waiting to see if that helps. I have a nasty chest infection, so Im sure thats what causing this.

For myself I just "wait it out" but I also wait for a couple of readings in "Hi" before taking extra insulin because my numbers bounce around so easily....I hope they come down for you

Terry, sorry to hear you've got a 'HI'.  The 7 units should help. Make sure you test in one hour. And also, drink lots of water to help flush your kidneys of the excess sugar.  Lots of water....let us know how you're doing.

Take care
Chris

I hope you come on down soon Terry and yes keep checking often until your numbers get down to where you should be.
Glad Chris mentioned drinking water so that you can help flush it all out.. don't be surprised if you feel awful as you come down... jsut keep a close eye out and yes I would have to see a couple of HI's in a row before I would go to ER.

Hope you are on an antibiotic for the chest infection.. and hopefully as soon as it clears up a bit then you will have much lower numbers..

please update us ok?
Take good care and
maybe check ketones!
Cuddles

Its on its way down now *Phew*. My meter stops reading when its higher than 600, So I took 7 units to get it down just to where I can read it and after a bit I take more according my numbers.

Yeah, I rarely drink anything but water. Its funny, because before my diagnosis I was a big soda drinker...now the stuff makes me gag. And with how thristy I am, theres no problem drinking LOTS of water. I hate the dry mouth, its like tourture...I could drink an ocean of water but still be thirsty until my sugars come down.

Oh geese, I forgot to make my font bigger. Sorry everyone!  I'll copy and past it below.
