How long is insulin good if it is refrigerated?  My mind has gone blank on this.
I take Lanuts, and Humalog

Hi Dee,,,, sometimes good to put your  question in two spots,,,,,, There are kind of two lines of thoughts on how long Lantus lasts(refrigerated, of course) the little flyer in my box says 28 days,,,,, now I only use 15 units so I never empty a bottle by that amount of time,,,,,,, I've heard others say they can use the whole bottle and  their levels don't increase,,,,,,, I have found for myself that it seems to last about 30 days and then my numbers will start creeping up,,,,, so I change mine out once a month!

I take REg/Nph and I use them until their expiration date which is on the box/bottle,,,,, I assume it would be the same for Humalog. I keep all my insulins in the frig/on the door to help them from getting too cold,,,,, never let them freeze and keep them out of sunlight!!!  That's about all I can offer,,,,,, Have a nice day,,,, and Keep smiling, Cuddles/Kathy

To tell you the truth, Dee, I use the Novolin pens (even for my Humalog) and the vials are relatively small.  Even at that, I keep a pen in my purse...and I can't tell you the last time I changed insulin in it.  Don't jump all over me...I just never thought about it going bad.  I'm glad you brought up the topic!  I generally make sure that I check the expiration date on the box, and figure it is safe to use for as long as it stays in the pen.  I guess I was wrong?!  Better check with my doc, huh?!?   sheryl   Oh, yeah...figure me being careless with my diabetes...for yet another reason...NO!
