Okay, this has been a long drawn out process.
Basically I'm Type 2, diagnosed in June 2002....and my endo put me on Humalog pen two months ago. I was using 1 unit per 15g of carbs and found that the insulin was not effective...was still having numbers of above 140 after meals...usually running 200 after breakfast using the insulin. I went to consult a dietitian and a CDE and they both said it was odd I wasn't responding to the insulin.
I experimented and went back on my oral meds (Starlix and Metformin) and found that if I followed a very strict low carb diet, I was able to get around 140 or below post meal numbers. However, my endo decided that he wanted me back on the insulin.
So I told him I wanted to try using the vials and to go on Novolog, just to see if that was more helpful.
I am finding that I have to go down to a ratio of 1 unit to about 5-7 grams of carbs before the insulin is effective in getting my BGs down below 140 after meals.
I guess I'm asking all of you what your ratios are and if that seems rather high of a ratio? My premeal numbers are usually around 100. I would like to get back on the pen because using the vials is really inconvenient. I was using the Humalog pens and even when I did use the 1 unit per 7g of carbs ratio, I was still getting above 140 post breakfast.
Help!!!!!!!
