Can humalog quit working? I can not keep my blood sugar from getting really high. I have increased the amount of humalog I take but it still takes 2 or 3 shots to get it to come down. It does not matter what I eat everything makes it go up even if I do not have any carbs.

For me, it took more and more and more to get the same results.  I met a woman on the original trials and she said that was one of the major issues for her.
So yes, I think it can and they usually suggest you try Novolog.

Hi Lori
You said you don't have "any" carbs, but your sugar keeps going up?  It is possible that the food you are eating has carbs, but you may not recognize them.  Some foods have hidden carbs, and even sugar (which is not always listed a "sugar," either)  Labeling nowadays is clearer...but maybe not as clear as we might like.  And it isn't only carbs that can elevarte your sugar.  Proteins and fats will elevate sugars, but more slowly.  The only form of nutrition a cell will accept is glucose, and the body eventually breaks everything into glucose molecules.
And Humalog will spoil and become less affective beyond its expiration date.  So make sure to check the label.  And one should discard the humalog one month from opening it...but verify that on the label as well (I use a pen...so I'm not 100% sure it is the same with the vials...).
What has your doctor told you about your high sugars?  Have you tested for ketones?  And if y ou are running high, please be sure to drink lots of water, to flush your kidneys and be sure you aren't getting dehydrated.
Take care, Lori!  Hope thing are going better for you, and that some of this helped!  HUGS!  sheryl

AM NOT FAMILIAR WITH HUMALOG, I USE APIDRA FOR QUICK ACTING INSULIN.  WORKS REALLY FINE AND 3 UNITS NORMALLY COVER A MEDIUM SIZE MEAL WITH NOT TO MANY HIGH CARB FOODS.
BEEN ON LANTUS AND APIDRA FOR 2 YEARS AND NO COMPLAINTS EXCEPT,  LANTUS BURNS SOMETIMES,  EVEN WHEN ITS ROOM TEMP.

I have tried novalog but it did not work either. I have increased my lantus and drinking lots of water is not a problem since I am on lasix for congestive heart failure chf.I was told I could get too much water if I was not carefull so I limit it to 3 or 4 20oz bottles a day. I am up several times a night to go potty and I have to increase the lasix when it is hot to keep my ankles from swelling a lot. Coffee counts for water and I drink a pot a day so unless I am sick there is no danger of dehydration.
