Hi Ya'll!!!!!!!! Reading all the other jounals have inspired me to start my own. If anything it will give me a chance to review my thoughts for the day and hold myself accountable for diabetes wellness. I'll start with a breif history, Goals and then my plan of action. I was dg'ed April 13,2004 and have had a rollercoaster ride since then. I was amazed how may misconceptions I had and how easy it is to fall off the wagon especially when you doing well. I am married and have a 12 year old son. I am blessed with having 2 wonderfull and supportive guys in my life. When I recieved the news I was a T2 Diabetic I was in shock!!! Here is how I found out................................ My Mom, my Sister and my neice came down for a vist at the end of March this year. My Mom is a diabetic and has been for 8 years, so she carries her supplies when she travels. The day after they arrive my Mom was sitting at the table taking her BG and ask me if I want to take my BG, just out of the blue. My Mom and sister( who is a nurse) said they had been watching me and though I may be a diabetic. I asked her "WHY WOULD YOU THINK THAT!" She mentioned I was displaying a few of the symptoms such as extream thirst, frequent urnation, hands swelling, headeachs, and other things. We'll just to prove them WRONG, I siad sure! I took the test and it read 289. SHOCKING. So I immedatly thought the machine is broken this must be a mistake. ( this was before lunch) My sister took her bg and it was 99. So much for the machine being broken. Everyone was shocked, of course, My Mom was panicked and wanted to see a doctor immediatly. So I scheduled an appointment with my Regular Doc. and told her about the results of my breif test with my Mom. So the Doc ordered a slew of blood tests. Here is what we found when I went in for the results. FASTING BG - 219 TRI'S 595 HDL- 34 LDL - Could not be figured because tri's where so high TOTAL CHOLESTEROL - 319 A1C - 9 ( 219 avg for the last 2 months) There were over 15 more test but these were the scarriest ones. I was immediatly put on Actos15mg for my diabetes, Zocar 40 for Cholestoral and 1 asprin 81mg. Along with diet and exersise. In July I was retested to check for issues with the meds and see if there was any progress. FASTING BG - 105 TRI'S- 195 HDL- 36 LDL- ?( I don't remember) TOTAL CHOL- 159 A1C- 6.9 and lost 20 lbs. After those glowing results I started to feel like I was cured. So I didn't test as often, I havn 't been taking my med's as regular and pretty much acting like I was not a diabetic. Here we are in Nov. I missed my Nov bloodwork appointment because I know they would not be as good. Not to mention the weight gain. I think I created my own reality. So here I am.................... Goals: Posting my BG on the T2 board. Work on my life changing eating habits. Decicate 30 minutes to 1 of exercise 3 days a week. Work on personal self healing. Lose 70 lbs. ( Reward myself for every 10 lbs of wight loss) Check BG's at 8am and 4pm as required. Spend 20 minutes a day on diabetes education. Plan better meals and snacks. Plan of Action: Record Progerss in Jounal Walk in the am so I don't blow it off Discusse Ways my family can help me. Wiegh in every Sunday Carry meter with me so I can my bg in the afternoon. Take Medication on a Regular Basis. One thing I have leaned is it' s o.k to have a bad day. Take things one meal at a time. I'm not getting any younger, so It's once again to take the Bull by the Horns!!!!!!!!!! Can you tell I'm from TX??? Any Advice?????????????? -SugarbearT2 |

Hello All!! Happy Birthday to me!!!! I have just turned 30 years old in Nov. and I have just discovered that being 30 does not have to mean death....... So today I have started walking.... I purchased new shoes for Christmas.. I dare say I took my husband with me to make this purchase and let me tell you that will never happen again. I had to remind him I an not 13, I am 30 and this is not my 1st shoe purchase. Bless his heart he is used to taking our son shoe shopping ( he is 13) . It was a funny experience: -) Blood results in Wes./ Well - Hello to All I have missed chatting with ya! Merry Christmass and Happy New Year! |

Hello All, April 22, 2006 6am bg 156 ( pasta and garlic bread for supper) Midnight 134 I have been of my meds for a week. and i have not taken my bg's in 3 monhts. i don't know what i was thinkng. LIFE CHANGING MONENT I was driving at night w/o my glasses with my son in an unfimilar part of town. i could not see the street signs, on ramp to freeway, debree in the road, axcess road. needless to say it was pretty scarry. i did not want to slam into a wall. DESCION OF CHANGE I relized that is the way i have been treating my diabets. living with out taking the proper precautions to be in good health that could result in unnessary complications. so i picked up my meds, actully took my bg's in the am and pm, remembered to take my meds and chose to eat a little healther today . that is why i am back. i am so encouraged by seeing how other people deal with the same struggles. I will be posting regulary. SugarbearT2 |

Sugarbear: Glad you are back. We all slip up once in a while but the important thing is you have made a choice to do your best to control the diabetes as best you can. I too have slipped lately and must take it more seriously. Alone we sometimes feel weak in our struggle against this monster but with others there is strength. Nana |
