Hi Everyone! My name is Tina and we are expecting a baby boy November 11th.  This afternoon I was diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes (still cannot believe it).  I have another son whom is almost 18 months.  My question! I was put on Glyburide 2.5 mg tablets.  I am still nursing my 1 1/2 yr old.  Do you think these meds will hurt him?  alot of you are probably shocked but my doctor told me it was ok to nurse as long as I don't have contractions.  I set a goal when he was born to nurse him for the first 2 years of life. anyway I am going to start the meds in the morning (if it's ok) and I plan on calling the pharmacy when they open to be sure. but if anyone can let me know what to expect I would greatly appreciate it! Thank you!

I'm a type 1 and take insulin so I'm not too familiar with that medication you're on.  As far as I know it is safe to take from others I've heard on a different board (Baby Center has a pregnant with diabetes board with lots of girls who have gestational diabetes).  I took insulin and am still taking it while nursing my daughter with no problems.  The only thing I know happens is nursing burns a lot of calories so it may lower your sugar if you aren't eating enough.  You kind of have to find the right dose to see what happens.  You don't want to have your sugar too low.  Good luck!
