hi im new and was diagnosed with g diabetes some weeks ago, my husband is type 1 diabetic, and has been on insulin since our teens, so you think i would be used to it, but im scared to death this baby is gonna be sick im 33 weeks preg, this is my 4th child, and have never had this before, but i am 37yrs old, so maybe my age has a little to do with it. baby is measuring big, and, im i now find i have excess amniotic fluid, some of which the baby has digested, which has given her a big swollen tummy, i think they gonna give me c-section in a few weeks, but i worry because my sugars are not going down as much as they would like, im now on insulin three times a day, and every other day they put the dose up, i feel really ill, dont know if its the insulin, the sugar levels, or stress, sorry to moan, but dont know who else to turn to. nicola.x |

Hi Nocola welcome. I'm not very familiar gestational diabetes but do know that when caring a baby you should try & keep your sugars as close to level as possible. We've a few here that have had babies without any problems. hopefully someone with more knowledge will see your post and give you some ideas.Take care. Maryb |

I had gestational diabetes for 2 of my 3 pregnancies, oddly the middle one was fine. It is only natural to worry, but just work with your doctor and nutritionist and you will both be just fine. Hugs. |

Nicola....well, welcome to the group although I know that what brings us together is something not so good..but anyway, I'm Cheryl...I've been T1 for 33 years (I'm now 51) and I was diagnosed in my sixth month of pregnancy. Diabetes runs on my father's side of the family so after I delivered a healthy girl (who is now 33), the diabetes stayed with me. I will tell you though, Christie and Mikalas (Michelle) have both given birth in the last 6-9 months to healthy children. Michelle had a healthy little girl, Allie and Christie just had a healthy little boy, Billy Joe on the first to August by c-section. I just got an email from Christie the other day saying that she hasn't had any signs of diabetes since Billy Joe's birth. I guess in about 3 weeks she has to go for a bloodtest to test her bloodsugars but so far, she is doing really well. So in both cases, things have been positive. I know it can be a scary time, hon....but please join us here and express all your worries and concerns. You're correct in stress being able to make you feel like crap. At least if you vent some of it here and ask questions about your diabetes...it might relieve some of your stress. You are not alone....this is an excellent group of supportive and caring people. So please, post what you want when you can.....someone will be here to talk to you. Okay? Take care and keep us updated on how you are doing. And I know if Michelle sees your post, she will more than likely respond....she's just a bit "pre-occupied" with children these days.... see ya around, I hope. Peace,Cheryl |

hi guys, thanks for your lovely replies, they did make me feel better, well sugar levels still not what the consultant wants, so when i go to the hospital on wed, 5th sept, they will either change my insulin or give me a delivery date, for a csection. they keep putting up my insulin, so now i am on, 14 12 and 12 three times a day obviousley, but whether they can keep doing that i dont know. will let you know. nicola.x |

Hey Nicola...thanks for updating us.... I'm hoping that maybe you're feeling a bit better than you were and I'm hoping that your appt. on Sept. 5 will give you further answers. If you ever just want to vent, hon...feel free to do it here....we're good listeners and it might help you feel a bit better. Worry is always greater when you keep it inside. But please let us know how you come out on the 5th.... look forward to hearing from you. Peace,Cheryl |
