| Been a pumper for 8 years now, diabetic for 35 years. Over the last month or so my site has become so itchy it's driving me out of my mind. I've contacted minimed, my drs., etc and no one has offered me a solution that works. The site could be 1 minute old or 3 days old and still itchy, red and sore. After I remove the old site it stays itchy for upto a week. I'm looking for any solution to my maddening problem. Thanks. |

Hi Chris, Welcome to the board  Have you changed the adhisive sp! (The sticky stuff that holds set in place) It sounds to me as if you have an allergy to the sticky tape. I will put a message on the main board so other members will see this for you. Best wishes SarahQ type 1 for 42 years |

It is weird that this came up now after 8 years of pumping! Are you doing anything differently? Maybe you have developed an allergy to the insulin you are using. So if using Humalog, try switching to Novolog or vice versa. Have you tried using IV3000 under the set? Are you familiar with this product? It is a rectangular piece that goes between your skin and the set - some people say it helps the sets to stay on when they are sweating alot. Some say it reduces itching. I have never had the itching problem. But these are some things I have heard from people who do. Julie |

I used to have the problems of, as the insulin went into me I would itch, burn, it would drive me nuts, and yes, even after it was taken out and changed to another location, the itch would last for several days, so then that would make 2 itchy spots. Doc told me it was an allergic reaction to the insulin, but, we gotta do what we gotta do, us type ones dont have too many other options. Maybe a warm pack after you remove the set to increase the blood flow to speed to dormant insulin along and get it thru your body faster? Maybe even try it on the set thats still plugged into you. |

Maybe the infusion set adhesive is a different kind now? I agree either have to watch for insulin allergy (my CDE made me eat a cookie, inject Novolog and then sit around and watch for red spots which I got with Humalog), or try to use the IV3000 stuff. That is the best bet! |

Thanks to you all.
I have not changed anything in the way i've been doing my sites. It has been very frustrating. Never thought that maybe i've developed an allergy to the insulin (i use humalog). I have tried different tapes to help the problem and nothing has worked.
Thanks to you all for the input! You'll see me here all the time now that i've discovered a place to go and chat with other pumpers. |

It's crazy, I've been pumping almost 4 years now and I'm having the same problem with itching. It's not red and sore though, but itches like mad at random times. I haven't changed anything either although I did notice that at some point the IV prep I was using was discontinued, so that is different, but that was a long while ago. I'd be willing to bet that's it though. The first time I was hospitalized and had an IV I was fine, the second time I developed an allergy to the very same IV tape. I just deal with it, not sure what else to do at this point. I'm STILL waiting on the Omnipod pump, hopefully it will be available here soon and then I'll check into things, I hate trying to deal with Minimed. Melissa |

Hey Chris, Has anyone suggested an anti-histamine? It helps with allergic reactions and it might be the adhesive that's the problem. If you have Benadryl floating around, pop one before bed and see if you're still "itchy" in the morning. By the way you guys, I haven't posted over here in two years...WOW |
