Well gang, after much persistence on my part I finally received the OmniPod pump. I received it a couple weeks ago, but I'm not being trained on it/hooked up until this coming Monday. Apparently I am being trained on it a week before the diabetes educator at my clinic even, lol. I am super excited as I've been waiting 2 years to get this pump. So wish me luck that all goes well on Monday, and I will check back and let you know how it goes. Melissa |

Melissa: Remind me, are you a member of my pumping groups? Would you please send us some feedback as you move along with this? I'm glad you finally got it. My warranty is up this wed. I am waiting for Cozmo to process the papers. Decided to give someone else a try besides Animas. I like the idea of the meter which sends the Bg to the pump. Anyway, apparently submitting an app before the warranty is up is a no no with the HMO, so they have to do everything very last minute. I hate waiting, and hope it goes well. Again, so glad you finally got what you were looking forward to!!!! |

Hi everyone! Well, I'm now on the OmniPod and so far I'm liking it quite a lot. I love how it inserts itself, and it's really not that noticeable of a bump, especially if I have my shirt pulled down over it. I'd say it's a lot less noticeable than my old Medtronic pump. Also, I am going to try using my arm as an insertion site and if that works I will have solved the hot tub issue as I will still be able to keep my pump on and use the hot tub while on vacation. Gelsey, I think I joined insulin pumpers.org at one point, but I'm not sure if I joined or just read some posts there. I will check them out again. I will also leave more feedback here in a couple of days after I've been using it more and learning all the functions better. Good luck with your Cozmo, if the OmniPod hadn't come through I was going to go with a Cozmo. :) Well, I had to finish my work shift after the OmniPod rep left, which was about 9:00, so I'm dead tired and off to bed for now. Hi Melissa, I'm sorry I have only just got around to replying to your post. Glad to hear you have the omnipod and enjoying it (not sure if that's the correct term). Please keep us all up dated as to how you get on with it and any pit falls with it. I have read a ladies blog on the pod and to say she is chuffed to bits is the understatement of the year. SarahQ |

Hi again everyone! Just a little update. I had a minor problem with my first pod. It inserted into a capillary. This has actually happened with my other pump as well, so I know it's no fault of the pump, but it kind of freaked me out because with the pod there is a little "window" that you can look into and check the cannula which is a good thing, but it started to fill up with blood from the broken capillary which just kind of freaked me out. So I went ahead and changed it out today by myself for the first time. It went so easy! And I put in a spot I've never used with my other pump, on teh side of my hip. It seems to be working great there, no broken capillaries, and you really can't even see it through my jeans, I even forgot it was there at one point. There are some things to get used to, but overall I am really likely this pump. It does feel a little funny at first because the whole pump is attached to you, but I've actually already adjusted to that I'm looking forward to trying many more different insertion sites that I never dared with my old pump. I've already figured out how to wear the OmniPod in a hot tub, although I haven't tried it yet, but that is to use the back of my upper arm. I know someone thinner than myself who wears it there, and so I am determined to at least try it. You can bathe and swim with it on though, it's just the water is too hot in a hot tub and would ruin the insulin. However, all that said I do not miss the tubing at all! I cleaned the whole house yesterday and did not have to worry at all about snagging my tubing on a cabinet handle, and I don't miss almost severing it in my jeans zipper. Once the pod is up and running you don't need the remote to keep the basal rate going, however, you do need the remote for any kind of interaction such as giving a bolus or changing your basal rates, etc. Then you must be within 2 feet of the remote until the change/bolus is completed. Not a big deal in my opinion, I just throw it in my purse and have it with me at all times. I love the fact that it has a built-in freestyle monitor, which takes a lot less blood than my previous monitor. Also, this pump takes away almost all of the necessary math, which for me means I will probably be able to get my diabetes under much better control without even hardly trying! Once you check your levels the remote asks if you are going to eat now. If you answer "no", it suggests a correction bolus if necessary based on settings you enter in when you set up your remote. If say "yes", it asks you how many carbs you plan to eat, then it figures out just how much insulin you would need to cover the carbs and if you would need extra to correct, or even if you would need less to correct the other way! Oh yeh, it also has a "memory" for insulin on-board, and figures that in as well! As someone who hates math and who has spent most of the last 10 years just "guessing" how much to take, this feature is going to be great! The less I have to think about math, the better, lol! It also has an extended bolus (or dual wave bolus) feature, but I haven't messed around with that yet. You can also program in menu presets of foods/meals you eat often so you can just get to that and push enter and bolus from that. All-in-all I think I'm going to really like being on the OmniPod. If anyone has any specific questions I'll try to answer them. Gelsey, I'd love to join your groups if you'll give me the links. My email addy is: [email protected]. I'm currently working mandatory OT, so I havent' much time to spare, but will try to get there as soon as I can. Anyway, speaking of all this overtime and not having much time, I need to get to bed, I'm always so tired when I'm working so much, lol! Sarah, is "chuffed to bits" a UK thing? I'm not sure what that means, but I'm thinking it's not good? I'd be curious to read that blog if you have the link, most people I've seen online have had really positive experiences with the OmniPod so far, so I wouldn't mind hearing the other side of the story to get a different perspective. However, so far I have no complaints. Like I said, a couple of things will take some getting used to, but so did my first pump, I figure within a month or so the changes will be routine and I won't even have to think about them any longer.
