I was wondering where you all like to insert your infusion sets. I like my thighs but my doctor noticed a raised area on my thigh saying it was fat deposits from the insulin and to lay off that thigh for a month. She suggested trying my "backside" but I said that would be hard to insert myself and stuff. What do you guys do? Michelle |

I use a rotation schedule for my sites. I use my thighs, backside, belly and back of the upper arms. Yes, the backside and arms are more difficult to reach but are very possible for me using sets with an inserter, such as Quicksets, Insets and Cleos. I've heard that others use their 'love handles' but they didn't work well for me. David |

Anyone try right around the hip area? Almost backside? This is where I did my injections for years and I liked it better than my abdomen. I still cannot get used to these infusion set needles. I just dont like them. |

It's been such a long time since I've done a shot on my backside. How do you insert it by yourself? Or do you have someone do it for you? Also, is it bothersome when sleeping or sitting? Michelle |

I use many different areas - sides, hips, thighs, top of chest. I have so much skin that it takes me a good six months or longer to get back to the same part of my body again. The areas that get irritated from getting knocked by my shoulder bag are my sides and the sides of my hips. When I commute, my shoulder bags bump those areas and they get sore. Also the sides of the hips are tough when I sleep, because no matter where I start out, I always roll over. Right now I am using a pretty good spot that isn't getting disturbed. It is the very top of my leg towards the back. Not far back enough to get in the way sitting but far enough to the back so it is not in the way of bags or things sitting on my lap. Julie |

I've only used my abdomen for insertion of my pump, but when I was on injections I would use my buttocks and thighs as well. On my first pump, since I'm so thin and had pain inserting into my abdomen I wasn't willing to try any of the other possible sites. Also, I wasn't sure where I would hook the pump when in other sites, or how to control the tubing. And, I couldn't figure out how I could possibly use a Quikserter to insert on my backside at all, not with having to hold it in place and push two buttons at the exact same time. I'm on the OmniPod now and today for the first time I tried using my hip, it worked really, really well and my tummy sure needs the break! With the OmniPod you get the pod all adhesed onto the site and push a button on a remote control and it does the insertion for you, so I don't have to mess around with pushing two buttons at the same time while holding the infusion set in place, so now I'm willing to try more areas.
