I received my new 522 pump Friday night and I just got it out of the box and put a battery in it.

My first disappointment........the clock is really hard to read.  It is on the screen all the time, which is a good thing, but it is all the way at the top, so the top of the frame casts a shadow on it, making it hard to read.  It is also fainter and smaller than all the other type on the screen.

Why in the world did they do this?  The clock is the thing I check the most often on my current pump.  I use it in place of a wristwatch, and I am always checking the current time against the time of my last bolus in order to determine if my blood sugars are where they should be.

I expected this pump to be better in every way than my 511.  I hope the benefits make up for this first really big disappointment.

Gosh, I use mine as a watch too.
I'm sorry you are having trouble with it.
Btw, Minimed must have web spies. They called today to try to talk me into their pump.  I think they were telling my husband they can get me one even if my insurance denies me one, due to it being out of warranty but still working.
I didnt give this info to anyone at MM.........hmmm.........

Julie,
Yeah it is kind of small, but you will get used to it.  If you tilt it back, you will see the time better.  Also, maybe try turning on the light.

Laura, it wasn't me either!

Take care
Chris

Thanks, Chris.  Using the pump light does take that shadow off it.  I suppose I will adjust to it in time.  I just wonder why they had to make the numbers be a series of dashes with spaces in between them, if you know what I mean.  It makes the number one look like a colon.  All the other print on the screen is solid lines - not dashes.  I think I would rather press a button to see the time but have it be more readable like it was on my 511.  Maybe these dashes have to be there for a display that is on the screen all the time, like a digital watch.  This was something I was just not expecting.  I hate surprises.

Aha, well MM thought I was still using my 508.  That's why they called.  That warranty would have been up October 2004 so I wonder why they didnt call then, and if they did, why they thought I was still using the 508?
who knows.......

Sales rep got bored.........slow day.........

They don't automatically call when your pump is out of warranty.  Mine was out of warranty for a year.

Actually Animas didnt call me to tell me it was up, but they stuck an actual pump in my order page on their Estore.  When I asked, they said it meant I might be interested in a new pump because my warranty was up.........confused me to pieces.

Gels, life negotiating all this medical and insurance stuff keeps us so occupied we are not even noticing that the planet is warming up!  In between a really busy and challenging day at work, I had to cope with pump training arrangements, one medical supply company telling me my doctor was refusing to sign my supply order and the other one telling me they would ship the supplies regardless.......  I just know two boxes of supplies are going to land on my desk in a few days and I will have the hassle of sending one back.......

Sicko is right.  If I didn't have the kind of job I am so lucky to have, where I can deal with personal phone calls as I work, I would not have a pump, I would not have supplies, I would not have half my medical bills covered because I wouldn't have the option of spending time dealing with insurance.........It's a screwed up system.....I don't know why we tolerate it.......

I know I am lucky to have a good job and good insurance.  That doesn't make me feel any better about the system, knowing that the people without great jobs and great insurance are either not getting the medical care or they are doing without other necessities to pay for the medical care.....

OK, off my soapbox for the rest of the night.......

Jay and I being self employed, get our insurance as two employees not a family.
I select my own policy because the brokers dont get pumps.
I'm paying $9324 total this year, and we get a rate increase every year.
Eeeesh.
Not many people could afford it, and I dont know how we do except I make sure that one bill gets paid.
