Well, the OmniPod pump has not worked out for me. I've had issues with severe bleeding at the sites (way more than just hitting a nerve or capillary on occasion), and it turns out that not being able to disconnect the pump did bother me more than I expected it to. I also had several of the pumps start a high-pitched continuous beeping that would not stop until I literally smashed the pumps on the ground. It's also bulkier than I was expecting which made it impossible for me to use in certain areas because I kept knocking it off by running into door frames or pulling up my pants too quickly. My dilema is that I haven't been able to connect with anyone at OmniPod so I can ship back their stuff and have them reimburse my insurance company so that my insurance company will again cover my Medtronic pump supplies. I have about 7 sets left, which I can manage to wear for 5 days at a time, that comes out to about another month of supplies for my Medtronic. I've already spent 2-1/2 weeks trying to deal with OmniPod and I'm worried I may run out of Medtronic supplies before this issue is cleared up. I can't afford the pump supplies out-of-pocket. I'm willing to pay something for the supplies, but I can't pay the $400+. I've already looked on e-bay but didn't find any for sale there. Does anyone have any other ideas where I may be able to get Medtronic pump supplies cheaply? I have insurance that will cover the supplies once I get the OmniPod situation straightened out, so I know I won't qualify for any programs that are based on income and/or insurance. Any ideas greatly appreciated! Thanks, Melissa |

Melissa: So you are going to use your old pump, and you dont think they will let you purchase any supplies because they think you are using Omnipod supplies? Is that right? I would think, by medical necessity your doctor can write you a prescription for supplies on your old pump. It's like switching meters. If you go on a new meter sometimes they can just write a new prescription for new strips. They dont always know if you have any of the old ones left to use. I would say, you're going to have to get a doctor in on this to do something. So sorry you are having those problems. It sounds like you went through an awful lot. |

Thanks Gelsey. I am seeing my endo next week and was hoping to talk to her about a prescription, my fear is that the insurance company will still refuse to cover the supplies until they are reimbursed by OmniPod as they are out the cost of the OmniPod system until that happens. We'll see what happens and I'll let you know after my appointment next week. Hopefully I can get a hold of someone at OmniPod to deal with this issue soon, but I guess I'm not too surprised they are avoiding this. |

OK, so you need to get your money back from the Omnipod system and then go about getting a new pump? Because then you would have a problem, otherwise they would never even know if you went to your old pump and just switched supplies. I have a good friend who returned a MM and got an animas. I do know it took maybe two weeks to get it done and get everything reversed. Animas told her if she couldnt handle their pump that was it, no more refunds. I'm sure it is very frustrating. |

No, I'm not getting a new pump at this point. I still have the pump I was using before the OmniPod, which is my Medtronic pump. So hopefully a new prescription from my endo will allow me to go back to getting supplies for my Medtronic pump, I'm just concerned that the insurance company will say no since I'm supposed to be using the OmniPod they paid for and will require me to wait until that is taken care of. Keeping my fingers crossed it will all work out in the near future. |

Yeah, that's what my friend wondered. She got the Animas and said well, if she never makes it with the Animas will they just let her get insulin prescriptions filled. Did you try to simpy fill a supply order for your old pump? My HMO is so danged confused about pumping, they wouldnt know what in the world I was doing. I know it's late and Friday but maybe you ought to just call MM on Monday and have them try to put a supply order through? That would probably only work though if you still had authorizations left for the supplies. I dont have any spare stuff here, but you could ask on the IP list? |

Thanks again Gelsey. I thought about just putting in an order for supplies, but if the insurance company denied coverage then I'd be stuck with a bill over $400 and another mess to clean up. I'm going to see if possibly my clinic has some supplies lying around when I have my appointment next week. I'm also going to keep trying to get this straightened out with OmniPod. I really wish the OmniPod would have worked for me, I was truly excited about their pump, but I know my A1c has gone up, not down, and it has been a huge hassle dealing with the OmniPod pump. I guess I'll just stick with my Medtronic pump for a while longer. I'm thinking of checking back into the Animas pump in the future though, as that was my first choice before the OmniPod came out. I'm not ready to go through another whole round of pump training just yet though, need a break, lol. |

I did just get my new Cozmo. They gave me five hours of training and will give me even more later (called advanced feature training). I dont really need it, but because they pay for it anywhere you want to go, they let me go visit with my favorite CDE. She's been so nice, she knows I have a less than favorite CDE through my HMO and she wants to just be friends and work on my numbers with me (which we are considering 'training'.) I told her if we keep going with all the hours, we're going to have to talk about something like her recent wedding! :-) |
