Hi Niki, yes it can be used in a pump but you have to remember that you need to wait 30 mins before you eat once you have bolused for food. All it is is humulin at 500u instead of 100u. I am assuming you are very insulin resistent. |

It is a stronger concentration of insulin. Like Sarah said, it is for people who need to take many units of insulin, and U-500 lets you take less units. If you need alot of insulin round the clock, it should work in the pump. You will just have to adjust for the slower action like Sarah said if you are currently using a more rapid acting insulin like Humalog or Novolog. Julie |

The U-100 was working fine until I started getting sick and then it seemed like everything I did made me even sicker from my appendix to my kidneys which have now completely shut down. Because of that my doctor feels that the u-500 will work best I had never heard of it until now and I have had diabetes since I was 5. I am still unsure about changing to the u-500 the person that is suppose to help with the change over comes wednesday my new pump is not too different then the other on except the color of the pump and the screen is now color. The only other option is to stop taking insulin all together however I would love to see my son graduate and we got 11 more grades to go. Thank you for your information it has given me some comfort knowing that it is not something that just came out. Nikki |

Niki, I am confused, I always thought if you had kidney damage you needed a lot less insulin. U500 is only available on a named person bases. It is mainly used for type 2's with insulin resistance. Are you seeing an endo? |

Yes I am i have been seeing her for a few months and along with my nephrologist whom i have been seen longer since my blood count is low and they are not sure why my count will not get to where it is suppose to be my vitamin d level is 5 and there were other tests that they did that have come back low or too high like my potassium it is like my body doesnt know what to do anymore and it is getting quite scary and annoying to say the least. It seems like i have a doctor for every body system. Nikki |
