I saw my endocrinologist today for the first time. I was just diagnosed in January and have been overwhelmed with everything. They were very good at listening to my concerns and answering questions. I am going to be put on a pump as soon as possible because of my life style changing constantly and my being on the road for work all the time. My sugars go up and down so much that it is a concern with my driving. I'm getting the MiniMed, mainly because I like the monitoring and because in my area, they have better support. |

Congratulations! If you're like 95% of all the people who have tried pumping, you will love it. I've been on the Paradigm for almost 3-1/2 years, so if you have any questions, just ask. Take care Chris (Type 1 for 34 years) |

Are you gettting the continuous glucose monitor with your MM? If you are, be really sure your insurance will cover it. Around here, they are still having trouble getting the HMO's to pay for them. |

My insurance does not cover it. I am having to pay an additional $900 plus for it. They broke it down into monthly payments for me. The only insurance covering it is apparently United and that is only in special situations. I am more comfortable having it than not. I do property management for work and my county is the size of Rhode Island. I need to be safe and this is the best option. |

I'll bet eventually you can get it covered. I have a local CDE that I use when I can (she isnt on my plan). She says it's getting easier all the time, but I think her big success so far is maybe helping get one or two covered. |

I'd have to say and have to agree that you need to check with your insurance if they will indeed cover CGM. If not, it will and I will say again, IT WILL GET EXPENSIVE REALLY FAST!!! I have BCBS of ND, and they not yet cover CGM yet. Every month I have called and called them , always get the same person in talking to. Oh well. I have brought up to my endro also about being put on CGM, but he had broke down the cost of doing CGM, instead of regular testing. The differences is in the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$, by far. I rather be sticking myself than having the CGM at this point of time.
I was told that doing CGM at first couple days to get an idea how to program the pump is important. It has pretty much helped me out to get regulated and so the endro can get the pump set-up right. Oh well |
