Hi Fausta. All you have to do is disconnect the pump during this time.  I don't think it would be an issue for dating though i guess some may find it uncomfortable.  The pump easily disconnects from the site. You will still have the infusion site on but it shouldn't interfere with anything - it's kind of like a band-aid.  I think you can safely be disconnected for 45 minutes from what I can recall - in other words, it won't really affect your sugars during that time. But you can always just give yourself a  little insulin to cover the times it is off.

Hi Fausta!

As the wife of a Type 1 -- pump-wearing 36 yr old, I can say that when he first got it.. it was rather awkward.  For BOTH of us.  Yes.. you can unhook it.  My husband calls it his "electrical outlet".  Once I got over the fear of hurting him if I touched it... it was like it didn't exist.

So yes... it IS a little awkward at first-- but it quickly becomes forgotten!  at least by the partner!

good luck!!

Pam

Actually, it depends on the pump.  You can't disconnect from the new OmniPod.  I went back to a Medtronic partially because of that as well as other issues with the OmniPod.  I've been wearing a pump for over 5 years now and in that amount of time only one person has ever asked me what it is.  As far as dating, why beat around the bush?  Just tell them up front from the beginning you have diabetes and you wear an insulin pump.  Anyone worth being with won't be bothered by it.

I just take my pump off....no problem.  If you have anything else you'd like to ask...ask away!

The Cozmo has a disconnect feature that even tells you how much insulin you missed.  But really, it isnt important enough to worry about it.

Gee, i was told you could disconnect up to 2 hours if you had too....like if your going swimming etc....this would be handy for my almost 16 year old, as this is part of life to go swimming etc.

Chez, when we used to go to CA and go to the beach, I would wear my pump unless I went in the ocean, then take it off awhile and then put it back on again.
The Cozmo actually has a feature to calculate missed basal insulin, if you really want to be fanatical enough to worry about it.
Most dont.
Hope you see this here since it is tucked into this particular thread.........
