I remember Momma cooking a rump roast but forgot how to make it! Could anyone possibly help me on that? My big oven is out and I have the small oven but not sure if I can cover it. I also have a big forman grill. I kind of remember Momma's being medium cooked (I love medium rare but don't know about a roast).
I thank ya'll way in advance for even looking at this!! tyty

My mom used to cook a roast with ketchup and Lipton onion soup mix smeared on it.  Then she would put some water in the bottom of the roasting pan, with some red (new) potatoes, carrots and onions.  Cover for the first half hour or so, then uncovered until done (at about 375-400)  Then toss the veggies with some butter and parsley, and serve them with the roast.  Hope it works out for you as well as I remember mom's!  sheryl

I cook alot in the crockpot........long days at work.
Potroast and chickens mostly.  The ketsup and onion soup sounds good too in oven.  Will try it soon.      Lucy

HI Tammie..good to see you posting, I know I've posted this here before but here is my family's favorite.

Rub salt & Pepper all over roast.Than sear the roast on each side ( cook meat in a skillet with about 3 or 4 tablespoons cooking oil on high heat until well browned).

Take roast out of frying pan and place in a deep pan , cover roast with water , I also add a beef bullion cube to water for added flavor.Bring to boil on high heat , than when it starts to boil turn down heat to low , cover continue to cook on low for about 4 to 5 hrs. Take roast out.Cool for a few minutes and cut against the grain.

For gravy : In a separate bowl combine all purpose flour and water to make a thick paste ..add to roast water until it's as thick as you want it. Salt and Pepper to taste .

Another way is to sear meat as above . Than place Roast in a Crockpot with 2 cans of cream of mushroom soup and 1 can water. Cover and cook over low heat for 4 to 5 hrs. Now you have your roast and gravy too.Very Good

WOW...thanks for all the ideas! I think it's going to have to be in the slow cooker because my top oven is sick and the bottom one isn't big enough for my dutch oven and the roast. I have never seared a roast but I'm going to with this one I think before I put it in the cooker. Either way I think it will be this weekend or early next week. Hopefully there will be some left overs from Thursday.
Thanks again all.
Tammie
