This is light reading, but it is based on the lives of the women who loved the poets Shelley and Byron. It is told by journal entries of four women. Next month I am going to Italy to see the beautiful seaside place there where these poets lived. This book is the first book I am reading to get me ready for my trip. But it is interesting on its own too. |

Julie....I don't know where Shelley and Byron lived so tell me, what part of Italy are you going to? Lucky you....Italy has always seemed like a deep and cultural place to me. I don't know if it is because I always think of those pictures of vineyards and earthy people or what. Let us know when you're going to go and when you get back, let us know what it is like. See ya! Peace,Cheryl |

Thanks for your post, Cheryl! There is a little stretch of rocky coastline in northern Italy called the Cinqueterre, where five villages are linked together by a path that visitors can walk. Here is one of the villages. I wanted to go here before I get too old, because I want to do all the walking and stair climbing in order to see each village. The author DH Laurence also lived there. I go on April 13. |

Aw, Julie...that looks so nice. I was wondering if you were going to southern or northern Italy. My husbands grandparents came over from Northern Italy and they raised him pretty much til the age of 5 as his mother was 15 when she had him. He grew up to that age speaking Italian. Of course he doesn't remember only tiny bits and pieces of the language today. Until I met him, I didn't know that Italians came in blonde models...lol...and then I found out that blonde Italians are (or were) mostly from the northern part of Italy. That was some 57+ years ago though... Looking forward to hearing from you... Peace, Cheryl |

Cheryl - I am 100% Southern Italian background. I am taking Traveler's Italian now to prepare for my trip from a lady who was raised in Northern Itay in Trieste. She cringes when I say any of the words I learned at home. The Southern dialects are really different. Some things I say, she says are not even words. Or they are not supposed to be used the way my family used them. Like my family called anyone outside the family a "straniero," but my teach says you are only supposed to call non-Italians "stranieri" in Italy. Yes, my teacher is a blue-eyed blond. We do have some blue eyes in our family too, and we are from the South so go figure. LOL I want to visit the two towns my ancestors came from but I want to do that with someone else from my family. I am going on this trip by myself and meeting up with a tour group there. |
