Are you asking about fatty atrophy caused by injecting insulin? If so, then the only thing I can suggest is that you frequently change the site of your injections. If you find out how to get rid of these pads of hard "fat" please let me know. I always assumed they were like cellulite...just gotta live with 'em. I weigh all of 104 (at 5'8") and I still have "pads" where I take my shots after 32 years. If you are talking about the tendency to carry excess weight around the middle abdomen, that is also a symptom of diabetes. The only place I am able to gain weight is the belly, right where I don't want it. Not 100% sure if that is hormonal, genetic, or from the diabetes...but my doctor told me it is most likely a combination of the three. He wasn't very helpful, huh...not that I can change any of those factors. Would have been much happier if he had said "don't eat so and so" or "you need more thus and such"...y' know? Not sure I helped...just know you are not alone! sheryl |

Thank you for sharing that info with me. I guess it goes with it all. I know of othe diabetes Type 1 and they dont carry any excess weight??? bit of a mystery to me tho. I'm only into my 9th year and still got a long way to go, for injection sites has anyone got other sites that are still effective other than tummy and legs. thanks jan |

Hi Janlou, if you don't use your arms and hip area, try those also. The more spots you use the less hypertrophy you will get. If you completely stop using the spots where you have hypertrophy it will go away, but it takes time. I know the more you use the same spot the less it hurts and hence we continue to use that same spot, but the more you use that spot, the less absorption you will get, scarred tissue doesn't absorb well. My advice, change spots, use a picture that you can get from your endo that shows good spots to use and do it in a different spot every day. Good Luck! sincerely, Dee |

The hip area is good for shots. You can get a holder for the needle that will let you reach behind you on your hip and release the needle with a click of a plunger. This lets you reach areas that you can't get to with just the needle because you have better control. Bar |

Hi, I find that just above your panty line is a good spot on your butt- LOL. Some might call it your hip area, but just above the "fleshy" part of your buns usually works for me. |
