I go for one thursday... day after tomorrow. It's my second. I have precancerous cells. But there are other reasons they do it.
That said... I had biopsies done last time, won't this time, due to a pregnancy. After the biopsies I had some bleeding and cramping, a little stronger than a monthly cycle. They had me take 600 mgs of ibuprofen before it... I wish it'd been stronger. I had the option of watching on a "tv" and it was kindda neat. They apply this dye to your cervix and if it changes color, then they'll do biopsies. Only in the area it's different. (I've been told for all the different reasons for a colposcopy). I had a friend go with me the first time, this time nah.... it's not that bad. The cramping afterwards was the worst. And that was livable. This time I am concerned SLIGHTLY that I'll get all irritated and start cramping.... then I'll wonder labor or the test? I'm 6 months pregnant with twins. It took me about 3 weeks to get the final results of the test, in the mail. I hated waiting. Oh and my dr did it after one pap coming back abnormal. Some dr's do it faster than others.
Good luck

Try not to worry too much about the procedure. I used to have it done almost every time I went to the gyno. My transplant meds were causing some kind of problem, that caused the PAPs to come back positive. Teri was right on in her description of the colposcopy and biopsy. It is slightly more uncomfortable than the PAP itself, and takes longer. You may have some bleeding and cramping following the exam. I had Percocet at home, so I took them before I went to the gyno office. Ask you doctor if she will let you take anything prior to the procedure...even Motrin or Tylenol...just to be safe. Good luck! Hope it all goes well, Mamy. And you , too, Teri! I'll keep you both in my prayers! Come to think of it...I ought to call and make myself an appointment. There must be a reason that there have been 2 posts were gynos were at issue. Maybe someone is trying to tell me something??? sheryl |

Mamy, I am not a diabetic but I do have lots of problems in the female area (which I won't even begin to try to explain all of them) but I will tell you about my experience with abnormal paps. And you have to take this with a grain of salt because my gyno ended up going out of business because of malpractice lawsuits so there is no telling whether or not the things she told me are true. When I was 18 I had a pap come back abnormal so my gyno scheduled another pap 3 months later - came back abnormal again so we scheduled for another pap 3 months later - came back abnormal. Turns out I have mild dysplasia due to HPV infection. (That much is true as my current family doctor has discovered.) My old gyno did a colposcopy and to me it didn't feel any worse than a pap. She told me there's no cure for HPV but it does become dormant in time (1 - 2 years). For me that has been true, which I'm grateful for. But ever since her office closed and I started just letting my regular family doctor do my pap's they have all be normal. I wouldn't get too alarmed until you know for sure. Trust me, I was terrified and did all that worrying for nothing - I'm right as rain now. I hope your doctor visit goes well. Please keep me updated. I will say an extra prayer for you today. --Carley |

I am not Diabetic, my lil girl is, however, I have had the abnormal cells... I had a Level 3 , which is the last stage before cancer....Thank the Lord I found them, my only option was to have surgery. He did a Conning of my cervix... and then after that I had to go to get check ups like every 3 months for a year. JUST to make sure none have come back. I just had my last follow-up and now I am back to every 6 months. My mother and sister both had the same thing... the abnormal cells, however, they found theirs in the early stage like level one and level twos... they had simple proceedures, like Freezing and scraping.. and it did not require them to have surgery. It was all done in office. I Know I freaked out when they told me, ya know anytime ur told something is abnormal, u just get a bad feeling, however, i must say BY THE GRACE of GOD I got checked out in time.. and BY the GRACE of GOD so did you. Best of Luck and I will be Praying for you. |

I have had an abnormal one as well, and it was nothing. I got a colposcopy and its really not that bad, feels a lot like a pap, and everything has come back fine! I have had abnormal paps before too. Please let us know how things go for you! |

I had a mean doctor do the biopsy, it did cramp and it does bleed (wish someone told me that part). I had to have things frozen to kill off the lesions. That was scary but after two Tylenol it wasnt so bad. At least nothing has ever come back. |
