Hello
I am new to this site, I went to the doctor and she told me to stop taking my meds  and monitor my blood sugar for six days so she can determine how much insullin to give me . I am very scared about using insullin. Is lantus good for low blood sugar or  high or both I am very confused can anyone help and give info on this insullin ?

insulin will bring down your blood sugar. so if you take too much of it, you will have a low blood sugar (and will need to eat something to bring it up), if you take too much you will have a high blood sugar (and will need to take some insulin or get some exercise to bring it down).

finding the right amount may involve a bit of trial and error, but that's why the doctor is there to help you. when you see her next week, it would be good to come with a list of questions. make sure that she explains everything and that it makes sense to you.. you sound a little confused, which is certainly understandable! it does get easier.

I take Lantus...what Lantus is is an insulin that works in your body for 24 hours (or supposed to) to keep your sugars level. There are no peaks with the Lantus, its called a slow acting insulin that works in the body for 24 hours. I take my Lantus at night, before bedtime.
Hope this helps you.

hello
I am a bit worried about you being asked to spot taking meds for 6 days, are you type 2 at the moment and your doc thinks you maybe type 1?

i would find out more about why the stop needs to happen if you are type 1 as missing just one injection is dangerous.

please let us know more soon, i am quite worried

Hello
she said I was type two and I was taking diffrent med for 3 months. And I was getting sick to my stomach with all the diffrent med and I decided to get a diffrent doctor  and he said with battling for three months and it was still not stableized that It sound like a type 1 so she wanted to monitor my blud sugar for 6 days to determine how much insullin I need , But this will be the toughest challange I am going to go through starting today. during the day it is low and  in the evening it sky rockets.

hi,

your doctor will help you figure out why they go up in the evening, and then determine how much insulin you'll need to bring it down.

it's a lot to take in at first, but it eventually just becomes routine. i'd write down questions as you have them, and bring them along to the doctor.
